You know a really interesting intellectual exercise would be to try and find a common thread that unites all these famous folks who have the same birthday - presumably, being famous, there is enough biographical information available to try this. Then you can try and stuff yourself into the picture somehow, and really impress everyone.

Millar (Millar), Monday, 28 April 2003 22:46 (twenty years ago) link

well, Ferdinand Marcos and Miles Davis were both jerks, so...

You know a really interesting intellectual exercise would be to try and find a common thread that unites all these famous folks who have the same birthday - presumably, being famous, there is enough biographical information available to try this. Then you can try and stuff yourself into the picture somehow, and really impress everyone.

Billy Wilder and Bill Blass share variants on my name; Wilder directed The Apartment, and I live in an apartment.

Lindsay Wagner played The Bionic Woman, in which she was almost dead but then got all bionicized; I had a near-fatal gallbladder attack, and got all surgicized.

Joseph Papp produced and directed The Pirates of Penzance. I love pirates, and keep a pen in my pants.

Todd Rundgren did "Bang on the Drum All Day"; I once banged a pot around until my mother said "quit that right now."

Anne Morrow Lindbergh wrote Gift From The Sea; I like fish.

H. Rider Haggard was a writer; I'm a writer, and I once rode 'er till she was haggard, if you know what I mean.

George Vancouver surveyed the Pacific coast; I once asked a chick in California, "What're you wearing?"

Meryl Streep was The French Lieutenant's Woman; I ... would rather not talk about it.

Tep (ktepi), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 02:44 (twenty years ago) link

In the spring of 1968, the Dutchess County Sherriff conducted a raid on the Bard campus in order to arrest students for illegal drug use. Walter Becker and Donald Fagen (I think) were both arrested along with something like 100 students and spent the night in the Dutchess County Jail in Poughkeepsie until the then-president of Bard (forget his named) bailed the kids out. The Assistant D.A. of Dutchess County who carried out the raid? G. Gordon Liddy.

I'm jealous of Bryan's too, but HE doesn't have Tubbs.

Although I'd rather see late-80s-spandex-wearing-long-haired-surfer-dude Mike Patton in a room with Alan Cumming than modern-day-short-haired-well-dressed-shitting-in-boxes-in-the-corner Mike Patton.

Alan Cumming...ROWR...he's playing Nightcrawler in X2! WTF!?!

June 8th is uninspiring: Frank Lloyd Wright, Nancy Sinatra, uh Griffin Dunne. Not a stellar crop. Mohammed and Thomas Paine died. But...

1786 1st commercially-made ice cream sold
1953 Segregated lunch counters in DC forbidden by Supreme Court
1968 Rolling Stones release "Jumpin' Jack Flash"

So there are good things.

July 27: Allan Border. Also two appalling singers: Bobbie Gentry and Maureen McGovern.
Had I been born 2 hrs 21 minutes earlier I'd be able to claim Helen Mirren, Mick Jagger, Stanley Kubrick, George Bernard Shaw and Aldous Huxley...and also, alas, the Hon. John Winston Howard. Overall I think my timing was OK.

thirteen years pass...

Glad I checked Google before starting a thread...Just learned that Melinda McGraw, who played Bobbie Barrett on Mad Men, shares mine. Less famous than Pablo Picasso or Pedro Martinez, but I'll rank her ahead of Helen Reddy on the Oct. 25 roster.
