just to fill in the blanks, this is a "free house" garden party called by my youngest brother (16) to mark my oblivious parents' 2-day seaside vacation. socially insecure, i fear he's doing it to prove himself, and that he may be getting a little more than he bargained for

Are you going to be present? Will you be turning away people at the door? Wouldn't tomorrow, when the kids get their GCSE results, be a better day for a party?

OK, important newsflash: I just had a word with him and it turns out that yes, they're meant to be coming today, BUT he might well call the whole thing off because his two older siblings have strongly suggested it's a bad idea.

Remains to be seen whether people turn up regardless, but this looks like it might be a washout. Sorry, ILX. Maybe spend this thread speculating on what might have happened?

you realize he is now doomed to be the kid who wasn't cool enough/was scared of his brother and backed out of having a party, right? bc that might be worse than "socially insecure".

TBH it was more the middle brother who put him straight. He's not scared of me. In fact, he's pretty conscientious himself, and he was probably having his own doubts, considering that neither me nor middle bro actually told him straight-up "don't do it".

It was more of a gathering than a party, altho I don't know where to draw the distinction.

Turns out that J4gger III pulled out of the party primarily because he had a WOW raid scheduled for today. Pathetic.

If there's something we've learnt today, though, it's that you don't need other people to have a great party! You just need your own family, and your own family's love.
