I like both the Shinedown songs I've heard...like Nickelback if they were good

musically, Thursday, 28 January 2010 06:49 (fourteen years ago) link

You can have both groups. I don't hear much of a difference.

curmudgeon, Thursday, 28 January 2010 13:46 (fourteen years ago) link

wtf lebron, that chick doesn't need a gatorade bath (k3vin k.), Monday, 1 February 2010 15:51 (fourteen years ago) link

I like the Ke$ha album. It has more than a few really catchy, bouncey new Max Martin jams.

Ok, I hated Train's "Hey Soul Sister" on first listen but less so on subsequent listens. Kinda Plain White Tees feeling maybe. It's 9th on the Billboard Hot 100.

The ss (J0rdan S.), Friday, 5 February 2010 06:25 (fourteen years ago) link

fuk this earth if "bad romance" gets denied a #1 spot because of "tik tok"

rasta batman gigolo (k3vin k.), Friday, 5 February 2010 06:46 (fourteen years ago) link

it won't be half as bad as all the shit that got denied #1 by BEP

The ss (J0rdan S.), Friday, 5 February 2010 06:47 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah i was gonna note the "blame it"/"you belong with me" parallel

where is "lemonade"? fuck clicking ten times to find it, why can't they just lay it out? or can someone w/ access or whatever just post it plzzz

rasta batman gigolo (k3vin k.), Friday, 5 February 2010 06:52 (fourteen years ago) link

rasta batman gigolo (k3vin k.), Friday, 5 February 2010 07:03 (fourteen years ago) link

rasta batman gigolo (k3vin k.), Friday, 5 February 2010 07:03 (fourteen years ago) link

ukmix.org, "Lemonade" is #1 on the heatseekers chart iirc

The Reverend, Friday, 5 February 2010 11:32 (fourteen years ago) link

@jordan New Boyz?? is that still the Ray J joint?

The Reverend, Friday, 5 February 2010 11:33 (fourteen years ago) link

It says New Boyz and Ray J on Billboard.

Yea, that Timbaland/Timberlake "Carry Out" number has Timba by numbers beats, dumb lyrics, and cliched flow from both of them.

curmudgeon, Friday, 5 February 2010 18:40 (fourteen years ago) link

roscoe dash/soulja boy is in the big boy top 100

Yesss. Just heard it for the first time last night.

I keep trying to find fun pop-rock songs in the charts but I am not succeeding. Roscoe Dash/Soulja Boy is way more vibrant to me than Train or Shinedown. Although I can see "All The Way Turnted Up" being annoying after awhile in its repetition

curmudgeon, Friday, 5 February 2010 21:21 (fourteen years ago) link

Heard that on the radio in Chicago a bunch when I was there for Thanksgiving. Slowly starting to hear it in NYC now.

maciej recognizing trill, Friday, 5 February 2010 21:36 (fourteen years ago) link

are we talking pop-rock as in 'poppy/popular rock' or 'pop and/or rock'?

shamefully my favorite song on the rock charts right now is 30 Seconds To Mars

some dude, Friday, 5 February 2010 22:51 (fourteen years ago) link

hah that soulja boy is awesome

dyao, Saturday, 6 February 2010 01:21 (fourteen years ago) link

J0rdan S., Saturday, 6 February 2010 02:36 (fourteen years ago) link

soulja boy is one of the most consistently interesting artists in rap, for real

J0rdan S., Saturday, 6 February 2010 02:36 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah I was just thinking that I love nearly all his singles, he's like 5/5 or whatever for me

dyao, Saturday, 6 February 2010 02:39 (fourteen years ago) link

WOW! WOW! WOW! WOW!

dyao, Saturday, 6 February 2010 02:39 (fourteen years ago) link

his last album was pretty boring on the whole -- but the stuff he puts on youtube/mixtapes (ie this lil b stuff) is kinda just fascinating to me. he's a completely independent force pretty much -- he gets beats from outside producers nowadays but he's still a really singular force to me -- in a time right now where a lot of rap is homogenized (even a lot of the good stuff) soulja boy songs are often instantly recognizable & identifiable. that's why him pretty much saving his career with "kiss me thru the phone" was particularly u_u to me

J0rdan S., Saturday, 6 February 2010 02:42 (fourteen years ago) link

are we talking pop-rock as in 'poppy/popular rock' or 'pop and/or rock'?

Either/or; just curious about the state of popular non-rap, non-r'n'b, and non-dance. Just hoping to find stuff that does not sound like Daughtry or Nickelback.

curmudgeon, Saturday, 6 February 2010 03:17 (fourteen years ago) link

the big pop rock thing that comes to mind for me is orianthi. i quite like her. i haven't seen much discussion of her on here (or really anywhere else), so i have no idea how she's being received otherwise.

kaygee, Tuesday, 9 February 2010 01:50 (fourteen years ago) link

i'm usually into that kind of girly guitar pop when it makes its way onto the charts but i dunno, something about that song rubs me the wrong way

cant believe 'all the way turnt up' is just peaking now. so tired of that song

vincent gallogina (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 02:38 (fourteen years ago) link

you realize that it took "wasted", for instance, like a whole 5 months to peak?

& btw "all the way turnt up" hasn't peaked yet

vincent gallogina (J0rdan S.), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 02:39 (fourteen years ago) link

all the way turnt up is a song i loved at first but dude, its totally one that wears u down & becomes kinda annoying

right?

i mean i still bump the song a ton in my car, but it's not like i'm shocked that someone could find it annoying after liking it

its been awhile. i did just post the next 'all the way turnt up' in the swag thread tho so u guys can be up on the next one :D

average gangsta rap from average gangstas (deej), Tuesday, 9 February 2010 02:49 (fourteen years ago) link

Haha, I haven't even heard it of my own volition yet.

I do think it's more of a "Yaaah!" than a "Crank That" or "Turn My Swag On", though. Something that's fun to revel in its obnoxiousness, but not actually that much fun to listen to.

really happy about wiz finally breaking the top 10

The Reverend, Thursday, 30 December 2010 11:05 (thirteen years ago) link

i have no beef with "grenade"

The Reverend, Thursday, 30 December 2010 11:06 (thirteen years ago) link

but like oh hey, a rap song that is actually a rap song in the top 10. never thought i'd see that.

The Reverend, Thursday, 30 December 2010 11:06 (thirteen years ago) link

i guess "6 foot 7 foot" was in the top ten last week. that's good too.

The Reverend, Thursday, 30 December 2010 11:08 (thirteen years ago) link

but it doesn't feel like nearly as much of a huge hit as b&y does

The Reverend, Thursday, 30 December 2010 11:09 (thirteen years ago) link

i thought it was called 6'7" but i'm seeing it listed as six foot seven foot everywhere, which kind of makes no sense

lex diamonds (lex pretend), Thursday, 30 December 2010 11:10 (thirteen years ago) link

the sample goes "6 foot, 7 foot, 8 foot, hut"

The Reverend, Thursday, 30 December 2010 11:12 (thirteen years ago) link

i feel like "bottoms up" hasn't dipped below #11 for two months or something

ha i can't even remember how it goes. haven't listened since that first underwhelming time.

and you're probably seeing it called that because that's what it's called.

The Reverend, Thursday, 30 December 2010 11:15 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah, "bottoms up" feels like it's been huge but really has just kinda been hanging there

The Reverend, Thursday, 30 December 2010 11:16 (thirteen years ago) link

the first single cover probably threw some ppl off

ah, hadn't seen that

The Reverend, Thursday, 30 December 2010 11:30 (thirteen years ago) link

it's sort of minor i guess but i like that it's called "six foot seven foot" instead of "6' 7"" -- the former sort of leans more on wayne's lovable playful side as opposed to generic swagger stuff

lol @ finally -- a rap song with no R&B singer by a rapper who's never had a major chart hit before rising to the top 10 about two months after the song's release is pretty damn fast.

hann am0n tana (some dude), Thursday, 30 December 2010 14:32 (thirteen years ago) link

the nutwasher (The Brainwasher), Thursday, 30 December 2010 14:38 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah just saw! hoping it's true, there are always so many rumours doing the rounds about x factor contestants and roc nation would have had to buy her out of the syco deal :/

Yeah, Jordan, and others who commented, very much welcome with any contribution at all over at the dedicated k thread.

i don't see the two or so rap songs getting plays from pop stations as being a new renaissance for the genre or anything though -- rap still has an audience and might be integrated with the current aesthetic but i doubt it'll ever again be the driving force it was in the 00s

chilli, Friday, 31 December 2010 01:38 (thirteen years ago) link

i don't think anyone claimed that?

The Reverend, Friday, 31 December 2010 02:05 (thirteen years ago) link

just saying, it seems to be a popular sentiment among the fratboy demographic that wiz and kid cudi are part of a "new movement" in rap which i don't think will manifest itself in any real sense
