I like the Ke$ha album. It has more than a few really catchy, bouncey new Max Martin jams.

Ok, I hated Train's "Hey Soul Sister" on first listen but less so on subsequent listens. Kinda Plain White Tees feeling maybe. It's 9th on the Billboard Hot 100.

It says New Boyz and Ray J on Billboard.
Yea, that Timbaland/Timberlake "Carry Out" number has Timba by numbers beats, dumb lyrics, and cliched flow from both of them.

I keep trying to find fun pop-rock songs in the charts but I am not succeeding. Roscoe Dash/Soulja Boy is way more vibrant to me than Train or Shinedown. Although I can see "All The Way Turnted Up" being annoying after awhile in its repetition
― curmudgeon, Friday, 5 February 2010 21:21 (fourteen years ago) link
Heard that on the radio in Chicago a bunch when I was there for Thanksgiving. Slowly starting to hear it in NYC now.

are we talking pop-rock as in 'poppy/popular rock' or 'pop and/or rock'?
shamefully my favorite song on the rock charts right now is 30 Seconds To Mars

soulja boy is one of the most consistently interesting artists in rap, for real
yeah I was just thinking that I love nearly all his singles, he's like 5/5 or whatever for me
― dyao, Saturday, 6 February 2010 02:39 (fourteen years ago) link
WOW! WOW! WOW! WOW!
his last album was pretty boring on the whole -- but the stuff he puts on youtube/mixtapes (ie this lil b stuff) is kinda just fascinating to me. he's a completely independent force pretty much -- he gets beats from outside producers nowadays but he's still a really singular force to me -- in a time right now where a lot of rap is homogenized (even a lot of the good stuff) soulja boy songs are often instantly recognizable & identifiable. that's why him pretty much saving his career with "kiss me thru the phone" was particularly u_u to me
― J0rdan S., Saturday, 6 February 2010 02:42 (fourteen years ago) link
Either/or; just curious about the state of popular non-rap, non-r'n'b, and non-dance. Just hoping to find stuff that does not sound like Daughtry or Nickelback.

the big pop rock thing that comes to mind for me is orianthi. i quite like her. i haven't seen much discussion of her on here (or really anywhere else), so i have no idea how she's being received otherwise.

Haha, I haven't even heard it of my own volition yet.
I do think it's more of a "Yaaah!" than a "Crank That" or "Turn My Swag On", though. Something that's fun to revel in its obnoxiousness, but not actually that much fun to listen to.

it's sort of minor i guess but i like that it's called "six foot seven foot" instead of "6' 7"" -- the former sort of leans more on wayne's lovable playful side as opposed to generic swagger stuff

i don't see the two or so rap songs getting plays from pop stations as being a new renaissance for the genre or anything though -- rap still has an audience and might be integrated with the current aesthetic but i doubt it'll ever again be the driving force it was in the 00s
