I keep trying to find fun pop-rock songs in the charts but I am not succeeding. Roscoe Dash/Soulja Boy is way more vibrant to me than Train or Shinedown. Although I can see "All The Way Turnted Up" being annoying after awhile in its repetition

Heard that on the radio in Chicago a bunch when I was there for Thanksgiving. Slowly starting to hear it in NYC now.

his last album was pretty boring on the whole -- but the stuff he puts on youtube/mixtapes (ie this lil b stuff) is kinda just fascinating to me. he's a completely independent force pretty much -- he gets beats from outside producers nowadays but he's still a really singular force to me -- in a time right now where a lot of rap is homogenized (even a lot of the good stuff) soulja boy songs are often instantly recognizable & identifiable. that's why him pretty much saving his career with "kiss me thru the phone" was particularly u_u to me

Either/or; just curious about the state of popular non-rap, non-r'n'b, and non-dance. Just hoping to find stuff that does not sound like Daughtry or Nickelback.

the big pop rock thing that comes to mind for me is orianthi. i quite like her. i haven't seen much discussion of her on here (or really anywhere else), so i have no idea how she's being received otherwise.

i'm usually into that kind of girly guitar pop when it makes its way onto the charts but i dunno, something about that song rubs me the wrong way

Haha, I haven't even heard it of my own volition yet.

I do think it's more of a "Yaaah!" than a "Crank That" or "Turn My Swag On", though. Something that's fun to revel in its obnoxiousness, but not actually that much fun to listen to.

i wasn't around then obv but i think the implication is that you posted effusively about singles and then when other people started digging them you hopped off the wagon. not sure if this is true or not.

naw, just aversion to hype/contraristan combo

i dunno i definitely can be obnoxious about "this song's been out forever where have you been" but i dunno about hopping off wagons -- it's rare that i turn on a song after i like it, even sometimes if something gets oppressively overplayed it'll still be in my top 10 at the end of the year

i don't see the two or so rap songs getting plays from pop stations as being a new renaissance for the genre or anything though -- rap still has an audience and might be integrated with the current aesthetic but i doubt it'll ever again be the driving force it was in the 00s

just saying, it seems to be a popular sentiment among the fratboy demographic that wiz and kid cudi are part of a "new movement" in rap which i don't think will manifest itself in any real sense
