i don't mind that stuff nearly as much as the sensitive stuff "I'M JUST SITTING IN MY ROOM DRINKING WINE AND WATCHING CALIFORNICATION"
i hate this dweeb, but it's not a bad tune
― Jacques_Lamure, Saturday, 6 March 2010 17:03 (fourteen years ago) link
it's a good song with a good beat, i just think it's a weird singles choice
― jizzchin (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 6 March 2010 17:33 (fourteen years ago) link
it's not a good song, and fuck boi 1da.
most transparent kanye karaoke of his career so far, sounds like he spent an hour listening to "can't tell me nothing" before he made it.
― some dude, Saturday, 6 March 2010 19:08 (fourteen years ago) link
my problem with this song is my problem with tons of drake songs aside from "best i ever had" & it's that he tries and come off as like.. the thinking man's baller where he's dropping deep-thought truth bombs in his songs & he kinda just flails around. also his voice is super unpleasant in this song.
― jizzchin (J0rdan S.), Saturday, 6 March 2010 19:14 (fourteen years ago) link

a few months ago he was saying his lead single was gonna be w/ The-Dream, I think maybe "Forever" doing well at radio bolstered his confidence to drop a big careerist crybaby anthem a la Kanye instead

it sounds... like a song off love/hate, and i think it's rather awesome
can't imagine anything this ballady being a lead single tho
altho nah right says that it's an unfinished version which would make some sense since terius' part is kind of nonexistent

i'm not even gonna listen -- people who leak unfinished songs are the most disgusting savages imo

i didn't even pay attention to the lyrics tbh -- i just like the melody in the chorus

it's kind of hilarious how transparently 808s it is tho -- even has kanye's CB radio ad libs

are we talking about the "for your love" song or whatever? didn't sound conspicuously more 808s than, well, all of drake's stuff to me.
also finally listened to "shut it down" the other day and holy shit is that a pathetically awful song.

i dig the new 808s & heartbreak rip off. it's a lot less melodically inept than anything on that album

yeah drake is definitely less of an R&B amateur than kanye, although his stuff still seems more competent than actually engaging to me. i guess there's no way for his album to not sell well at this point, but i'm enjoying the sinking feeling that people are probably getting that he obviously doesn't have another "best i ever had" in him.

yeah but as a living human being hes so much less likeable, which is saying something in 2010
― Gifted Unlimited Display Names Universal (deej), Thursday, 13 May 2010 04:25 (thirteen years ago) link
this is probably the first song of his where I haven't found him unlikable (probably because I mostly only find him unlikeable the second he stops rapping). and let's keep this in perspective, we're talking about post-heel turn kanye fucking west here (obv his heel turn was the release of 808s itself, not that silly taylor swift rant). drake needs to work way harder if he wants to catch up.
― i am giving you the viking of compliments (The Reverend), Thursday, 13 May 2010 04:30 (thirteen years ago) link

drake starts out unlikeable. if i dont like kanye being self righteous, where at least we have a public story to latch onto, why would we care about drake being done rong?? no one will connect with this

dunno, personally i find kanye's actual non-issues add up to the same zero at the end of the day. i think it's moreso drake's nominal superiority as a singer that works against him in comparison to kanye on his 808s material - on an immediate level there's a workable grain in kanye's lack of r&b finesse.
conversely this probably acts in his favour 4 those happy to luxuriate in the wan aesthetics of 'shut it down', etc.

Still one of the best albums of the decade.
even if you think that, it's kinda hard to deny that his persona took a turn for the ugly on that album

I mean, even though I don't like 808s, that wasn't a value judgement.
Not sure what you mean by his persona taking a turn for the ugly... was he just whining and being sad a bit much for your tastes?
― I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Thursday, 13 May 2010 16:07 (thirteen years ago) link
I think he means all of the unnecessary shit-talking about his ex.
For me, Kanye gets more entertaining as his behavior becomes more unnecessary, but I understand why others wouldn't feel that way.

It wasn't unnecessary shit-talking about his ex, though. It was, if anything, an honest portrayal of the emotions one often feels after a break-up ("It's your fault," "You're a bitch and a slut," "You're never going to find anyone who will treat you as good as I did," "Fuck you, once again, you slut"), even if these emotions are emotions we're taught not to externalize, especially on pop songs. They might be asshole things to say, but if he really felt them, why shouldn't he include them in his song? I think they added to the sense that 'Ye really was hit hard, and this was the way he reacted. It was a portrait of a really brief period after a break-up before, you know, distance and insight occur (whether that ever did occur for Kanye is another matter).

With that said, I do think the melody on "Find Your Love" is realy lovely, and the way Drake hits the higher note when he sings "heart" in the chorus -- I love it.
