peeps that have heard it:

i have only heard the song on that's on her home page and "window seat"

i think they are good, but i really dug the awesome, weird messed up p-funk meets dilla type more hard hitting groove songs on the first new amerykah

are there more uptempo or midtempo ones? cuz the two i've heard are good but definitely meeeeelllooooow

snorgfaced germans (M@tt He1ges0n), Friday, 19 March 2010 16:24 (fourteen years ago) link

its a pretty mellow set, all told. she said that this is her left-side-of-brain album, more emotional, less political. its no less awesome though.

I'm putting myself in the mindset that I can enjoy this album a lot even if it doesn't come with the raw like "The Cell" or "Twinkle."

m@tt you shld also listen to 'jump up in the air (stay there)'

just sayin, Friday, 19 March 2010 16:39 (fourteen years ago) link

sounds like it's gonna be a lot like 'mama's gun' which is great for me, bcz mama's gun is one of my favourite albums...

this:

you built a wall
a 20ft wall
so i couldn't see
but if i get off my knees
i might recall
i'm 20ft tall

reminds me a LOT of why I fell in love with 'Mama's Gun' to begin with.

also:

you're in love with me - but i'm driving your benz
you're in love with me - but i'm drinking your gin
you're in love with me - but i'm fucking your friends

The lyrics for each song, except this one, are printed in the booklet.

Each song has its own page. Beneath the title for this one: "(lyrics too terrible to write)"

agitation, produced by sa ra, is one of the gems on this album... has a real rotary connection feel to it.

That one fills the "Amerykahn Promise" slot this time right? Flat out track jack? (But a good one, nonetheless.)

ooh, i'm not sure - don't recognise the source, and there's nothing on the song-writing credits i have suggesting that

Full-blown copies are circulating, so it's only a matter of time before someone uploads.

The album cover design seems very similar to me.

Plus both are like about 45 minutes long. And totally awesome for it.

But don't mind me. There are about four artists out there I'm fanatical about and I tend to believe they are all the same person.

Also, the McCartney sample seems like the only really adventurous one out of the lineup.

really?! "Arrow Through Me" is one of my touchstones.

This album is really 80s isn't it? All of these thick modern soul synths, rubbery basslines... I'm not really hearing the organic "throwback to Baduizm" thing people were saying besides "Window Seat"

The Brainwasher, Thursday, 25 March 2010 21:45 (fourteen years ago) link

spank rock -_-

Violent (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 25 March 2010 21:45 (fourteen years ago) link

She kinda fulfilled the adventure quota ten times over with the last one, no?

Yeah, most of the samples are '79/'80. The album could have come out on 2000 Black (but then Kaidi and Dego etc would have replayed everything).

I'm not really hearing the organic "throwback to Baduizm" thing people were saying besides "Window Seat"

Me neither, and the last song with Muldrow is a very different organic.

Andy K, Thursday, 25 March 2010 22:01 (fourteen years ago) link

re: "Take Me." Really?

Yes, really -- slowed a bit.

really?! "Arrow Through Me" is one of my touchstones.

Yes, really -- untouched, more or less. (You can even hear Paul's "Oooooh"s.)

Andy K, Thursday, 25 March 2010 22:03 (fourteen years ago) link

And by untouched I mean the basic groove is there. It's not like it's the song note-for-note with Erykah's voice over it.

Andy K, Thursday, 25 March 2010 22:07 (fourteen years ago) link

"My Darling Baby" by Wood, Brass & Steel is also used, but it's not on YouTube.
