how the hell is everyday shooter $5 in the US when it's £6.29 ($9.40) in europe. the PSN store in general seems very expensive. £11.99 for fat princess? pfft

cozen, Saturday, 27 March 2010 14:48 (fourteen years ago) link

I guess m$ fun bucks have conditioned me to think dlc games are cheaper than they actually are

cozen, Saturday, 27 March 2010 14:49 (fourteen years ago) link

also why does the uh 'framerate' slow down on the XMB sometimes when you bring it up in-game smh

cozen, Saturday, 27 March 2010 14:51 (fourteen years ago) link

Cozen - normally Everyday Shooter is $9.99 in the US, I think - there's a half off sale this week in N.A. Each region of Sony PSN runs independently, so you will see different prices, sales and releases, and release dates across regions. It's a bit of a drag, in particular in regards to PS1 releases, where Japan has an incredible library for download and the rest of the regions have 1/4th the selection.

Fat Princess is a pretty full game that really could have been released on disc (just like Wipeout HD, which I guess eventually did come out on disc in Europe, but not in the US)), so that price doesn't seem totally out of line (though I wouldn't recommend the game at this point, due to its lag problems and lack of depth in the way the game is played, and no doubt miniscule (non-existant?) player base).

I'd imagine the framerate slows down when you bring up the XMB because it's pulling stuff down from the web when you do (like loading in your friends list and all those mini-adverts that are in the what's new section and all that) so taxing the processor somewhat - keep in mind, something like in game xmb all got added to the ps3 OS long after the ps3 had been on market, so it's sort of like a patchwork design and not fully integrated from the get-go. Hardly a big deal though, c'mon.

look jeff no point being reasonable when I'm riding my waaahmbalamps

cozen, Saturday, 27 March 2010 16:00 (fourteen years ago) link

wow the japanese psn is crazy for PS1 classics

what's the reasoning behind not releasing the pal/ntsc versions of some of these games on the other stores? can't be a rights thing surely

cozen, Saturday, 27 March 2010 16:10 (fourteen years ago) link

yeh its ridiculous how few ps1 games get released outside of Japan, there's only been 3 in the last 6 months in the EU.

aztec gamera (zappi), Saturday, 27 March 2010 17:33 (fourteen years ago) link

I know it looks like I'm grousing but there is lots to love about my new PS3... however that being said does anyone else have problems transferring all but the smallest of files over their network? renders the great PS3 media streaming options a bit moot at the mo

cozen, Sunday, 28 March 2010 19:48 (fourteen years ago) link

i've never had a problem streaming anything. my friend was getting really choppy streams for any kind of video from his pc but he had an ancient processor and when he finally grudgingly upgraded it the problem disappeared. don't know if that could be part of the problem you're experiencing?

aarrissi-a-roni, Sunday, 28 March 2010 19:58 (fourteen years ago) link

i had trouble streaming via wireless, has been perfect since i wired directly. probably more to do with my router than the ps3 tho.
i looked up the ps1 classics numbers btw, in the last 6 months japan got 40, us 31, eu 3. wtf sonyeu.

aztec gamera (zappi), Sunday, 28 March 2010 20:08 (fourteen years ago) link

japan has some amazing, hard-to-find costly-on-ebay titles too : /

cozen, Sunday, 28 March 2010 20:12 (fourteen years ago) link

ffs why can't i get the bbc iplayer to play the live programs, like it does when i browse thru it normally on my pc? this is shit, motd isn't available!

bracken free ditch (Ste), Sunday, 28 March 2010 21:07 (fourteen years ago) link

can't you go to bbc.com on the PS3's browser and get at it from there?

cozen, Sunday, 28 March 2010 21:18 (fourteen years ago) link

nah, it automatically goes into 'ps3' mode

bracken free ditch (Ste), Sunday, 28 March 2010 21:29 (fourteen years ago) link

I'm watching it right now on my PS3! :)

cozen, Sunday, 28 March 2010 21:35 (fourteen years ago) link

gah! how d you do it?

bracken free ditch (Ste), Sunday, 28 March 2010 21:37 (fourteen years ago) link

bracken free ditch (Ste), Sunday, 28 March 2010 21:39 (fourteen years ago) link

WAHHH

"bbc two england is unavailable at this time"

WTF i'm in UK!

bracken free ditch (Ste), Sunday, 28 March 2010 21:40 (fourteen years ago) link

hmm, that's odd

yeah, just navigated to bbc.com/sport and then clicked the watch motd2 live link and it worked just as it does normally. it was a bit slow but that's just cos I'm on wireless and haven't sorted out my PS3's wireless sloth : /

cozen, Sunday, 28 March 2010 21:42 (fourteen years ago) link

i haven't updated my ps3, i'll try that first..

bracken free ditch (Ste), Sunday, 28 March 2010 21:46 (fourteen years ago) link

(by which time motd will have ended)

bracken free ditch (Ste), Sunday, 28 March 2010 21:47 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah, it's finished now :)

cozen, Sunday, 28 March 2010 21:52 (fourteen years ago) link

i watched it on my laptop in the end, which of course slowed down the ps3 update download.

btw, anyone else suffered any blu ray freezing? my mate has, they freeze just after about 30 mins in.

bracken free ditch (Ste), Sunday, 28 March 2010 21:55 (fourteen years ago) link

no, but there is a default setting on the ps3 which keeps many blu-ray discs from even loading properly. i forget which setting it is tho :/

why not just set up an American PSN account? hell get 4 other Britishes to form a PS1 gamesharing group and buy shit from the American PSN for 1/5th of the cost.

US may have been getting a lot of ps1 releases, but they've almost all been worthless shit. Though it's not exactly like I'm dying for ps1 classics. Off the top of my head about all I can think of that I would like to get over here is Einhander (it's out in Japan) and the Mega Man Legends games.

AND BUSHIDO BLADE

Contemplative Punk (jamescobo), Monday, 29 March 2010 17:48 (fourteen years ago) link

PS3 is great, no fronting, but there are a no. of additions that could make it better (besides the big three: cross-game chat, PS2 BC, auto-synced trophies):
- custom soundtracks for all games
- parties
- voice messaging
- universal cross-game invites
- smaller updates (starting up UC2 for the first time was eye opening and that's not even the half of it if what I hear about other titles is true)
- demos for all PSN content (this is o_O to me but I can kinda half-understand it what with PSN being free etc)
- ability to browse the store filtered by retail or PSN content
- ability to purchase content on my PC for queuing up / download on PS3 (this is maybe a bit niche but I do this all the time on the 360, saves me having to negotiated the janky ass XBLA marketplace)

cozen, Monday, 29 March 2010 22:46 (fourteen years ago) link

put back otheros while you're at it, sony

Jeff LeVine, Wednesday, 31 March 2010 16:18 (fourteen years ago) link

I thought the newer PS3s didn't play PS1 games

STAY ALIVE USING EQUIPMENT (HI DERE), Wednesday, 31 March 2010 16:20 (fourteen years ago) link

All ps3s can play ps1 discs too (just not ps2)

mh, Wednesday, 31 March 2010 16:33 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah, PS1 games actually look OK too on the PS3 as long as you turn smoothing on

I've been playing through MGS1 recently and it's held up surprisingly well

corporal buzztitle (cozen), Wednesday, 31 March 2010 16:34 (fourteen years ago) link

I had no idea ps1 games worked on ps3.

congratulations (n/a), Wednesday, 31 March 2010 16:57 (fourteen years ago) link

corporal buzztitle (cozen), Wednesday, 31 March 2010 17:05 (fourteen years ago) link

<3 my PS3 btw

in-built browser w/flash support is rad for watching TV/motd in bed

corporal buzztitle (cozen), Wednesday, 31 March 2010 17:06 (fourteen years ago) link

my olde PS3 did die :( in 3.5 years i made use of the PS2 BC with only 2 games, which is the same amount of PS1 games i have played in the same time. there have been enough good new titles that i simply haven't had the time, so i am not as sad about losing the BC as i thought i would be. i am more excited about that fact that the new model is so much smaller and so quiet that i didn't even realize the old one was noisy.

Roberto Spiralli, Wednesday, 31 March 2010 17:35 (fourteen years ago) link

you can probably ebay your old busted ps3 for decent $$$; people still be covetin' that BC

Contemplative Punk (jamescobo), Wednesday, 31 March 2010 18:44 (fourteen years ago) link

wow, ps1 huh? i have to go pull out my binder o' ps1 stuff.

forksclovetofu, Wednesday, 31 March 2010 18:47 (fourteen years ago) link

- ability to browse the store filtered by retail or PSN content

^^^you get this on the US PSN store so why not on the EU?!

corporal buzztitle (cozen), Wednesday, 31 March 2010 19:18 (fourteen years ago) link

It's amazing how poorly designed and organized the PSN store is.

no turkey unless it's a club sandwich (polyphonic), Wednesday, 31 March 2010 19:26 (fourteen years ago) link

they should rework and unify the design across all regions; it's a bit silly that the EU, US, japanese, and hong kong stores are all different
