PS3 is great, no fronting, but there are a no. of additions that could make it better (besides the big three: cross-game chat, PS2 BC, auto-synced trophies):
- custom soundtracks for all games
- parties
- voice messaging
- universal cross-game invites
- smaller updates (starting up UC2 for the first time was eye opening and that's not even the half of it if what I hear about other titles is true)
- demos for all PSN content (this is o_O to me but I can kinda half-understand it what with PSN being free etc)
- ability to browse the store filtered by retail or PSN content
- ability to purchase content on my PC for queuing up / download on PS3 (this is maybe a bit niche but I do this all the time on the 360, saves me having to negotiated the janky ass XBLA marketplace)

All ps3s can play ps1 discs too (just not ps2)

yeah, PS1 games actually look OK too on the PS3 as long as you turn smoothing on

in-built browser w/flash support is rad for watching TV/motd in bed

my olde PS3 did die :( in 3.5 years i made use of the PS2 BC with only 2 games, which is the same amount of PS1 games i have played in the same time. there have been enough good new titles that i simply haven't had the time, so i am not as sad about losing the BC as i thought i would be. i am more excited about that fact that the new model is so much smaller and so quiet that i didn't even realize the old one was noisy.

you can probably ebay your old busted ps3 for decent $$$; people still be covetin' that BC

It's amazing how poorly designed and organized the PSN store is.

they should rework and unify the design across all regions; it's a bit silly that the EU, US, japanese, and hong kong stores are all different

yeah the psn store is a complete joke, real shame they didn't put more thought into this area. i know it's a free service compared to 360 but come on.

i think i only actually have one ps1 game that i'd consider bother loading up, Abe odyssey and i know even that will still crash in the same place every time. oh maybe res evil 3 as well.

hmm... I've always felt the US psn store was fine & can't remember ever having a problem with it. Everything is broken into categories and alphabetized, with new stuff put into the new section - I don't know what more they could do. It's basically the same as the 360 online store.

Yeah, GOW collection might be a good call. Those others are b-list at best for me.

JimD - that's a big list that will keep you bust for a while, but if you're looking for more I wouldn't ignore Little Big Planet (GOTY Edition), which is only around £15 these days. Everybody's Golf is a fun, cartoony golf game - very solid. PixelJunk Eden & Monsters also usually get recommended. Superstardust is a pretty awesome twin stick shooter.

Hi Dere only the two PS2 katamari games were any good, the rest were lazy followups made after the guy who had designed the original games had quit. and now i've got 'lonely rolling star' in my head.

the first stage in the katamari forever demo is horrible. the one in the xbox 360 demo was ok.

Superstardust <> Everyday shooter?

I rate them somewhat equally, though SuperStardust probably gives one more bang for their buck, as it's visually a ps3 showpiece, features more modes and variety (though you have to pay extra for some of the extra modes) and has longer gameplay (sometimes almost too long though). That said, I rate both a star less than Geometry Wars and its sequels.

Yeah, I still feel like I've got unfinished business with GWRE2, so maybe it's best not to dilute that impulse.

Think my blu-ray lens might just be dirty, any cleaning tips? Is attacking it with the hoover a good idea or a REALLY BAD ONE?

some people say not to use the brushes and some people say to.. I know you will get stung for a blu ray specific cleaner.... Is it reading the discs or just stuttering?

it shows the disc on the, er, xmb, but says (after some whirring) 'unable to play disc' or somesuch, when you try to play it.
