^^^you get this on the US PSN store so why not on the EU?!

corporal buzztitle (cozen), Wednesday, 31 March 2010 19:18 (fourteen years ago) link

It's amazing how poorly designed and organized the PSN store is.

no turkey unless it's a club sandwich (polyphonic), Wednesday, 31 March 2010 19:26 (fourteen years ago) link

they should rework and unify the design across all regions; it's a bit silly that the EU, US, japanese, and hong kong stores are all different

corporal buzztitle (cozen), Wednesday, 31 March 2010 19:33 (fourteen years ago) link

yeah the psn store is a complete joke, real shame they didn't put more thought into this area. i know it's a free service compared to 360 but come on.

i think i only actually have one ps1 game that i'd consider bother loading up, Abe odyssey and i know even that will still crash in the same place every time. oh maybe res evil 3 as well.

bracken free ditch (Ste), Wednesday, 31 March 2010 20:43 (fourteen years ago) link

hmm... I've always felt the US psn store was fine & can't remember ever having a problem with it. Everything is broken into categories and alphabetized, with new stuff put into the new section - I don't know what more they could do. It's basically the same as the 360 online store.

that one beehive? there's a bug in the game that makes it crash there sometimes.

I also had no idea PS1 games were playable. Now tempted to get a PS3 just so I can play bishi bashi special, which would be RIDICULOUS.

JimD, Thursday, 1 April 2010 08:33 (fourteen years ago) link

three weeks pass...

Ok, got one. Bearing in mind I've had a 360 for ages (so have already played anything non-exclusive and worthwhile), I need a shopping list. Here's what I've picked up so far (or am borrowing this week):

Wipeout HD
Noby Noby Boy
Flower
God of War 3
Uncharted 2
Demon Souls

Anything else that should be on here?

JimD, Monday, 26 April 2010 09:33 (fourteen years ago) link

might be worth reading up on:
valkyria chronicles
yakuza 3
resonance of fate
god of war collection (out on friday)
3D dot game heroes (out beginning may)

cozen, Monday, 26 April 2010 09:55 (fourteen years ago) link

Yeah, GOW collection might be a good call. Those others are b-list at best for me.

Also, PS1 games I need to find the discs for (they're probably hidden away in ledge's flat somewhere):

Vibribbon
Bishi Bashi Special
Incredible Crisis

...er, that's probably it really.

JimD, Monday, 26 April 2010 11:21 (fourteen years ago) link

Yakuza 3 is £17.99 in Zavvi's Mega Monday sale. I'm p tempted but I've got loads of games I haven't completed

3D dot heroes £24 pre-order off that list.

I'm buying it basically as a thank you to From software for Demon's souls.

and it will bring the retro lolz...

don't forget the APRIL2 code for another £2 off!

cozen, Monday, 26 April 2010 13:26 (fourteen years ago) link

£22.95 = a steal for a new game that's been getting good reviews.

my opinionation (Hamildan), Monday, 26 April 2010 15:29 (fourteen years ago) link

JimD - that's a big list that will keep you bust for a while, but if you're looking for more I wouldn't ignore Little Big Planet (GOTY Edition), which is only around £15 these days. Everybody's Golf is a fun, cartoony golf game - very solid. PixelJunk Eden & Monsters also usually get recommended. Superstardust is a pretty awesome twin stick shooter.

Jeff LeVine, Monday, 26 April 2010 15:43 (fourteen years ago) link

Oh totally forgot LBP, yep, will grab.

I tried some random Katamari demo and it was really terrible...? Like, "why the hell do people like this series"-terrible?

Hi Dere only the two PS2 katamari games were any good, the rest were lazy followups made after the guy who had designed the original games had quit. and now i've got 'lonely rolling star' in my head.

Superstardust <> Everyday shooter?

I rate them somewhat equally, though SuperStardust probably gives one more bang for their buck, as it's visually a ps3 showpiece, features more modes and variety (though you have to pay extra for some of the extra modes) and has longer gameplay (sometimes almost too long though). That said, I rate both a star less than Geometry Wars and its sequels.

Jeff LeVine, Monday, 26 April 2010 22:15 (fourteen years ago) link

Yeah, I still feel like I've got unfinished business with GWRE2, so maybe it's best not to dilute that impulse.

Think my blu-ray lens might just be dirty, any cleaning tips? Is attacking it with the hoover a good idea or a REALLY BAD ONE?

some people say not to use the brushes and some people say to.. I know you will get stung for a blu ray specific cleaner.... Is it reading the discs or just stuttering?

my opinionation (Hamildan), Wednesday, 28 April 2010 09:12 (fourteen years ago) link

it shows the disc on the, er, xmb, but says (after some whirring) 'unable to play disc' or somesuch, when you try to play it.

Are you still under warranty? Because if you crack open the case and the problem is more serious than a little dust, your warranty will be voided. Maybe better just to contact Sony or wherever you picked up the ps3 if it's still covered. If you're out of warranty you could try cracking that thing open and using a precision / valve duster (a can of which you can buy for around the price of a sandwich).

Tracer - me too! The great thing about the Powerful Pro series is that the game is very deep, and very much feels like baseball, but at the same time, it's very fast and arcadey fun. Games usually take about twenty minutes (as opposed to over an hour in a more "sim" title). Of course, the bummer is, unless you can read Japanese, there's a lot you're going to miss out on. I also happen to really enjoy the different atmosphere of Japanese baseball, so getting a peek into that world is another plus.

:O would have been an understatement; it was like watching reality ripped open right in front of me

Totally didn't expect this to be the case, but the PS3 is working much better as a kids' console than the 360 has. Little Big Planet, Noby Noby Boy, Flower and even Wipeout are all big hits with the littlun. Still not in love with it myself, there are plenty of little annoyances (like not being able to have different profiles signed in on different controllers), but I felt this way about the 360 for the first 3 months.

Yeah, if they didn't retune the platforming - which sucked - I have no interest. Still a pretty game to look at; hope it's fun to play this time.
