the new Cave 12-inch is pretty killer

A few excellent releases from last year:

Om - God Is Good
Jim O'Rourke - The Visitor
Six Organs - Luminous Night

I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Tuesday, 18 May 2010 15:33 (thirteen years ago) link

the Helena Espvall & Masaki Batoh records are both excellent

original bgm, Tuesday, 18 May 2010 15:46 (thirteen years ago) link

Richard Bishop- The Freak Of Araby

would go nicely with the Rangda album

Felix Frankfurter, Man Of Justice (Jon Lewis), Tuesday, 18 May 2010 15:57 (thirteen years ago) link

thanks guys! think i'm going with latest six organs, looks sweet

If it's not too late I fully recommend http://www.dragcity.com/products/empty-the-sun - Chasny in really schweeet acoustic mode (mostly [iirc]) and the novel that comes with it is kind of a blast too

Disagree. I love Rick Bishop to death... but this is, for lack of a better term, his "dinner party" album.

It wasn't "available" before today, though.

― Trip Maker,

Somehow Sonic Boom records in Seattle had both formats for sale last friday. Also picked up the new Cave 12" same day. Got 'em shipped out early I suppose. But did NOT see them at Everyday Music.

yeah, I didn't mean to imply that my local store was trying to get it before release date, just that they told me yesterday that they had been unable to get any copies in yet...

bug holocaust (sleeve), Wednesday, 19 May 2010 22:25 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah no kidding. The last track is a killer and so epic.

van smack, Wednesday, 19 May 2010 22:28 (thirteen years ago) link

that, "Plain of Jars" -- which is my current favorite

van smack, Wednesday, 19 May 2010 22:28 (thirteen years ago) link

It almost sounds like a Velvet Underground song.

van smack, Wednesday, 19 May 2010 22:30 (thirteen years ago) link

loving the jazzy breaks at the end of "Serrated Edges".

Stormy Davis, Sunday, 23 May 2010 06:47 (thirteen years ago) link

Man Oh Man does this record ever deliver.

due to complete memory failure i only got to this in time to see the second half. it cleansed my head.

stirmonster, Tuesday, 1 June 2010 12:59 (thirteen years ago) link

So mad I will miss the NYC date.

99 anna hay-uff jussa woan' do (Jon Lewis), Tuesday, 1 June 2010 16:33 (thirteen years ago) link

great pics as always, krakow!

yeah, this fuckin' ruled - nearest thing i cld compare it to was keith moon sitting in w/ crazy horse or something... loved how HEAVY it was

altho' i was a bit bummed out by the pretty sparse attendance, the lack of jostling and chattering really let me get deep fried in the music - and i was only woken from my reverie by david k33nan shouting "unbelievable" behind me.

this youtube clip doesn't really do em justice, but still

corsano looks like a 14 year old next to Bishop, haha

tylerw, Tuesday, 1 June 2010 20:37 (thirteen years ago) link

really hope I get to see these guys soon

my only complaint about this album is that it is not a double album.

bug holocaust (sleeve), Tuesday, 1 June 2010 20:49 (thirteen years ago) link

Hoping there's tickets left for Cardiff tomorrow night. Hope I can find someone to go with me.

Agreed. It's too short!

Picking up the vinyl tomorrow - my local shop now has it in stock. Can't wait.

Like the photos, Krakow!

Duke, Tuesday, 1 June 2010 21:35 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah, great pics!

tylerw, Tuesday, 1 June 2010 21:45 (thirteen years ago) link

So beautiful. Seeing these fellows in two days time at Brighton's shittest venue. Dammit, I am up for this thing.

Vision Creation Mansun (NickB), Tuesday, 1 June 2010 22:32 (thirteen years ago) link

Finally got this today. On 3rd listen already and fucking love it.

My very first reaction was: this is like Haino/Tatsuya's "New Rap"! (which is, naturally, a Good Thing). It is, in some ways, but it's also more than that, of course (e.g. the fine closer).

And yeah, where's the download code or whatever?! I'll have to dl this elsewhere for out and about.

Duke, Wednesday, 2 June 2010 22:05 (thirteen years ago) link

Bought it off amazon MP3 last night. Listening now for the first time. Damn.

!... fist family...!

Yes! Yes! Hammerheads! (Jon Lewis), Thursday, 3 June 2010 21:38 (thirteen years ago) link

Serrated Edges and Plain Of Jars are the most Sun City Girls-like on here. What Corsano is doing on Plains And Jars is classic Charlie Gocher (RIP).

Listened to this today.. loving it.

fyi:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rangda
Rangda is the demon queen of the leyaks in Bali, according to traditional Balinese mythology. Terrifying to behold, the child-eating Rangda leads an army of evil witches against the leader of the forces of good - Barong.

ian, Thursday, 3 June 2010 22:33 (thirteen years ago) link

Just walked back in through the door after seeing these people. They don't hold back live! Corsano was particularly impressive.

Did you go? It banged hard imo... I love how with this venue there are always ppl walking past the windows behind where the bands play and peering in with a 'what the christ is happening in there' look
