I dig it. Does a good job of extending the goofy evil of the "Nick the Stripper" video thirty years on, without trying to live up to it. Same for the song.

I thought it was a fun, taking the piss kinda video. And I don't mind the song either. (Possibly too fangirl abt Nick to give any real balanced opinion though, lol)

first time I heard the song, I stopped listening about halfway through because it seemed kind of boring and repetitive. but when I listened again and listened to the whole thing, I liked it a lot more, the repetition pays off by the end of the song. Like the video too, pumped for this album.

surprisingly, the new record sounds better than the debut, but still - Nick isn't what he used to be, and i got somewhat tired of those Stooges imitations.

he's written songs for a stage version of Kafka's "Metamorphosis"? Is this new?

i don't no, but i wouldnt be surprised if he did.

i meant in terms of talent. imo.

i dunno, i never cared for nick cave before, but i dig what i've heard from this new disc. and i think i dig it precisely because of his aging, angsty letch he plays in these songs.

did you care for The Birthday Party?

no. i thought TBP had some interesting-to-provocative lines (e.g., "oh! god! please let me die beneath her fists"), but the music left me cold.

i didn't give TBP much of a chance, to be fair.

uhh . . . i was kidding? it won't make you believe in the essential goodness of humankind. it will make you appreciate the depths to which people will sink to quiet their personal demons.

i know it's probably only me, but i see a very slow and painful decline in Cave's releases ever since TBP hiatus.
(though Grinderman are better than anything he did in the last 20 years)

yea my take on the grinderman stuff from the last album was like 'oh good he's back to something he's better at, well kinda'. but it's like he can't shake that literary monkey off his back? and yeah i really prefer the raucous jokester side of nick and i'm glad he's mining that or something like it again but maaaan do i miss rowland.

which = basically i am unrealistically wanting this to be the birthday party and setting myself up for disappointment.

I can't quite fathom anyone liking Grinderman better than the Birthday Party.
