Bringing back "wolf" like its 2005 again.

Extended version of the 12" features Robert Fripp on guitar. An unlikely collaboration but can't wait to hear it.

If Nick wasn't in that I would've sworn it was some fan-made vid.

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Monday, 9 August 2010 16:33 (thirteen years ago) link

i hope the new record will be better than this lame song, but it will probably won't/

Zeno, Monday, 9 August 2010 17:01 (thirteen years ago) link

i agree the song is very disappointing

del griffith, Monday, 9 August 2010 18:02 (thirteen years ago) link

Lousy song and lame video.

John Hillcoat should stick with movies.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Monday, 9 August 2010 18:19 (thirteen years ago) link

Wow that video haha

Tolaca Luke (admrl), Monday, 9 August 2010 18:20 (thirteen years ago) link

I can't tell if its meant to be a joke or not...

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Monday, 9 August 2010 18:21 (thirteen years ago) link

are you serious?

strongohulkingtonsghost, Monday, 9 August 2010 18:29 (thirteen years ago) link

f.f.s. he's grooving in space wearing a goddamn centurion's outfit.

strongohulkingtonsghost, Monday, 9 August 2010 18:30 (thirteen years ago) link

Haha okay I can tell it's meant to be a joke, but I'm not sure why anyone would think it's funny.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Monday, 9 August 2010 18:31 (thirteen years ago) link

Alpha male hilarity & B movies w/ a healthy dash of racial profiling thrown in... I fucking love it. The gurning madman standing behind me at the last Bad Seeds show I attended probably doesn't. Get old and laugh at yourself, full stop.

Mr. Shirts, Monday, 9 August 2010 20:27 (thirteen years ago) link

lol @ the guy from the Hot Chip video also being this video and doing shit with his eyes AGAIN.

Johnny Fever, Monday, 9 August 2010 20:40 (thirteen years ago) link

I dig it. Does a good job of extending the goofy evil of the "Nick the Stripper" video thirty years on, without trying to live up to it. Same for the song.

Lousy song and lame video.

kshighway61 revisited (electricsound), Friday, 13 August 2010 02:01 (thirteen years ago) link

I thought it was a fun, taking the piss kinda video. And I don't mind the song either. (Possibly too fangirl abt Nick to give any real balanced opinion though, lol)

VegemiteGrrrl, Friday, 13 August 2010 02:46 (thirteen years ago) link

first time I heard the song, I stopped listening about halfway through because it seemed kind of boring and repetitive. but when I listened again and listened to the whole thing, I liked it a lot more, the repetition pays off by the end of the song. Like the video too, pumped for this album.

More on Fripp's contribution

This is good.

Badmotorfinger Debate Club (MFB), Saturday, 11 September 2010 04:08 (thirteen years ago) link

No but seriously.

Badmotorfinger Debate Club (MFB), Sunday, 12 September 2010 02:52 (thirteen years ago) link

surprisingly, the new record sounds better than the debut, but still - Nick isn't what he used to be, and i got somewhat tired of those Stooges imitations.

Zeno, Sunday, 12 September 2010 20:49 (thirteen years ago) link

he's written songs for a stage version of Kafka's "Metamorphosis"? Is this new?

kind of shrill and very self-righteous (Dr Morbius), Sunday, 12 September 2010 20:55 (thirteen years ago) link

i don't no, but i wouldnt be surprised if he did.

Zeno, Sunday, 12 September 2010 21:01 (thirteen years ago) link

know

Zeno, Sunday, 12 September 2010 21:01 (thirteen years ago) link

he and Woz scored a theatre adaptation four/five years back that's been staged in a few countries - if it's all songs qua songs now that could be new

Teddybears.SHTML (sic), Monday, 13 September 2010 04:16 (thirteen years ago) link

Nick isn't what he used to be

it's probably a good thing he isn't trying to do the same things he did 30 years ago

this is a really good album

congratulations (n/a), Monday, 13 September 2010 13:01 (thirteen years ago) link

"Nick isn't what he used to be

i meant in terms of talent. imo.

Zeno, Thursday, 16 September 2010 02:01 (thirteen years ago) link

i dunno, i never cared for nick cave before, but i dig what i've heard from this new disc. and i think i dig it precisely because of his aging, angsty letch he plays in these songs.

Daniel, Esq., Thursday, 16 September 2010 02:03 (thirteen years ago) link

did you care for The Birthday Party?

Zeno, Thursday, 16 September 2010 02:04 (thirteen years ago) link

no. i thought TBP had some interesting-to-provocative lines (e.g., "oh! god! please let me die beneath her fists"), but the music left me cold.

Daniel, Esq., Thursday, 16 September 2010 02:08 (thirteen years ago) link

i didn't give TBP much of a chance, to be fair.

Daniel, Esq., Thursday, 16 September 2010 02:09 (thirteen years ago) link

will this album make me believe in the essential goodness of mankind

markers, Thursday, 16 September 2010 02:10 (thirteen years ago) link

yes

Daniel, Esq., Thursday, 16 September 2010 02:10 (thirteen years ago) link

ok i was thinking of buying it today & didn't but maybe I'll head out to the record store tomorrow and do so

markers, Thursday, 16 September 2010 02:11 (thirteen years ago) link

uhh . . . i was kidding? it won't make you believe in the essential goodness of humankind. it will make you appreciate the depths to which people will sink to quiet their personal demons.

Daniel, Esq., Thursday, 16 September 2010 02:14 (thirteen years ago) link

i know it's probably only me, but i see a very slow and painful decline in Cave's releases ever since TBP hiatus.
(though Grinderman are better than anything he did in the last 20 years)

Zeno, Thursday, 16 September 2010 02:14 (thirteen years ago) link

uhh . . . i was kidding?

hahaha, i know man

still thinkin of grabbin the record though

markers, Thursday, 16 September 2010 02:16 (thirteen years ago) link

"it's probably a good thing he isn't trying to do the same things he did 30 years ago"

on 2nd thought, he does, but this is so much better:

I dig the new album but it sags a bit in the middle.

Gerald McBoing-Boing, Monday, 20 September 2010 00:41 (thirteen years ago) link

on 2nd thought, he does, but this is so much better:

yea my take on the grinderman stuff from the last album was like 'oh good he's back to something he's better at, well kinda'. but it's like he can't shake that literary monkey off his back? and yeah i really prefer the raucous jokester side of nick and i'm glad he's mining that or something like it again but maaaan do i miss rowland.

she's one intense bitch, she rides a unicycle (arby's), Monday, 20 September 2010 00:45 (thirteen years ago) link

which = basically i am unrealistically wanting this to be the birthday party and setting myself up for disappointment.

she's one intense bitch, she rides a unicycle (arby's), Monday, 20 September 2010 00:46 (thirteen years ago) link

I can't quite fathom anyone liking Grinderman better than the Birthday Party.

Fig On A Plate Cart (Alex in SF), Monday, 20 September 2010 00:55 (thirteen years ago) link

This is shit music made by shit people for shit people.

If you like this, blog about Nick Cave's fucking facial hair then cut yourself with a piece of fucking glass and throw yourself off a fucking bridge.
