i'm pretty disappointed that there wasn't a surfboards/brainwasher meet up
lol yeah that would've been extremely rare and based.

das racist was pretty lame tho, I don't get them
― The Brainwasher, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 04:46 (thirteen years ago) link
i tried to get involved up front but couldnt even come close. there was a semi circle at least 6 people deep around him on the stage the whole show with cameras of all types in his face.
shit was fuckin punk rock. he came in from outside the club and no one expected it, the place eruptd. he walked right through the crowd and just went straight into his set.

no i didnt cook. the cooking was only for the master chefs tbh
you needed a lot of room or at least the physical conviction to make room for yourself to cook
― surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 04:48 (thirteen years ago) link
hell yeah.. i cooked up thanksgiving dinner in that bitch. swag!
master chef is the ultimate bro
― J0rdan S., Tuesday, 27 July 2010 04:49 (thirteen years ago) link
the kid with the chefs hat couldnt even get close enough for B to acknolwedge him. he wasnt even the most aggressive dude there even though he came dressed up. i was right next to him he was pissed he couldnt get up there
― surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 04:50 (thirteen years ago) link
I wanted to get on stage for the cook off but there was like 30 dudes on stage it was crazy... I did get the shake BasedGod's hands afterwards tho, and he retweeted me/ followed me on twitter lol
― The Brainwasher, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 04:52 (thirteen years ago) link
^thats sick
woogie killed it. perfect dj. im not gonna say the show itself was great because obv B has his limitations and his songs are....you know... but that kid has the most unbeleivable stage presence. he could have done pretty much anything up there.
he was totally unfazed
― surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 04:53 (thirteen years ago) link
it was so fucking awesome to be in a crowd in nyc that was that excited.
― surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 04:54 (thirteen years ago) link
yeah definitely, I mean dude did pretty much do random shit up there... he didn't even bother trying to finish his "based freestyle," lol but he was hella entertaining throughout
― The Brainwasher, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 04:55 (thirteen years ago) link
yeah i think he did that because he knew he was killing it so hard that it didnt matter and was even kinda stupid to waste precious time. he wanted to get to the good stuff.
he was on fire

caramanica's review is a bit troubling. it's not negative really, but it kind of misses the mark by approaching it from such a traditional point of view: recorded/written music and the performance of that music. that's not really what happened. it was a performance of an entire amorphous ouvre that stretches into many different mediums that clarly touch his audience in a really really deep way. he describes an "ouvre" but one that consists only of music. we all know if one were to listen to a bunch of Lil B tracks one would not get the whole picture. i really think someone will come along and give this show proper due by describing exactly what was being celebrated that night, because it was not merely a few hundred digital song files it was that whole picture
― surfboard dudes get wiped out, totally, Tuesday, 27 July 2010 05:13 (thirteen years ago) link
if he took in that "bigger picture" as the major piece of the output of Lil B it could not possibly be described as "thematically thin" since it got that many people to act as "rabid" as he describes. the output he's referring to is only his songs, which are a total grab bag.

i was at the show too. really great, weird time. i was close enough that i made the push up on stage for the last two songs and ended up like one circle of people back from based god. magical!
here's some great footage: http://ilovepwnage.com/video.php?v=MTA2NTY=
i didn't realize at the time how many people knew all the words. crazy.

people who know way more about this guy than me, is there a definitive piece on him out there that explains what he's up to/why so many people are following what he's doing? I'm with B4ron (http://blogs.villagevoice.com/music/archives/2010/07/you_know_who_i.php): "Look, with apologies to Noz, we're not even going to pretend to fully understand the Lil B phenomenon"

caramanica definitely misses how epic the aborted based freestyle was. B was on the line "I feel like a blogger" then he followed it with a long pause and just yelled FUCK A FREESTYLE and the whole place erupted. that was definitely one of my favorite parts of the show, along with hearing Like a Martian at that volume, doing a little bit of cooking with one of the two dudes in chef hats, and pretty much all of B's other stage banter ("you know who i feel like? i feel like im fucking mel gibson" etc..)
