chicken is underrated imo, hipster chickenhaters have had their decade and the backlash is on the way

pasta: the depressed-saggy-japanese-salaryman of carbohydrates

Go to Europe more.

But you're right about the other two.

"who i probably should be if i want to start shitting on the reg"

definitely their 'return to form'

iatee, Wednesday, 28 July 2010 14:24 (thirteen years ago) link

Easiest one ever, bacon & chicken & pasta are on my BOYCOTT list because shits are well overrated (bacon: the most irritatingly overused cut of pork, chicken: the boringest and most misused of birds, pasta: the depressed-saggy-japanese-salaryman of carbohydrates). Others win on default. Salad vs. pizza however is brutal because it confronts me with the "who i am" vs. "who i probably should be if i want to start shitting on the reg" dichotomy.

see the thing is will

you are right most of the time - these are easy foods for ppl to fuck up, and they do it on the reg all the time

but these things

when done right

are sublime.

eat a chicken in france or pasta in italy (or a good italian restaurant) sometime

and you'll see why everyone has fallen over themselves to make inifnitely inferior versions of these things

I guess we're going to say goodbye to curry. My feeling is it hasn't permeated the culinary consciousness in the US anywhere near as much as it has in the UK.

or we just call indian dishes by their individual names, like we would any other food

iatee, Wednesday, 28 July 2010 14:35 (thirteen years ago) link

I voted curry though because I basically get "all Indian food" in - plus, Indian is my favorite cuisine bar none

gross rainbow of haerosmith (underrated aerosmith albums I have loved), Wednesday, 28 July 2010 14:36 (thirteen years ago) link

and basically I will be quite bummed if I never get pasta again, but if I can't have Indian food again, then I'm just going to kill myself

Like pasta or salad.

State Attorney Foxhart Cubycheck (Billy Dods), Wednesday, 28 July 2010 14:39 (thirteen years ago) link

actually in america we just refer to all pasta as 'tomato sauce'

iatee, Wednesday, 28 July 2010 14:40 (thirteen years ago) link

@s1ocki that is fair -- i have not tried the best of the best (i think the best chicken i have had is probs romados (i had portugalia's and tbh i didn't like it as much) and the best pasta i had is n/a because i have just had junk pasta) but the two of them are just so maligned in my mind by the imitators that i can't separate the great from the swaths of junk out there. especially chicken. for every delicious bird there are 500 pieces of crap that are like "well, we need to put a meat in-- how about chicken cos it kinda just feels like meat in the mouth and tastes like water with a little dirt in it" dishes. i'm scarred.

plus, i love indian food.

but actually like if you have a pasta recco in the city let me know (esp. if it doesn't cost 1 arm+1 leg) because i am open to repoening communication with this dish from which i am estranged.

yeah i eat pasta as much as anything else, but i mean it's basically just an edible container for actual food

I eat way more indian food than pasta and absolutely prefer indian food to italian food, but curry is just a spice to me

iatee, Wednesday, 28 July 2010 15:02 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah but this poll was started by persons who do not generally mean the spice when they say "curry."

gross rainbow of haerosmith (underrated aerosmith albums I have loved), Wednesday, 28 July 2010 15:02 (thirteen years ago) link

I mean we could get into the whole history of of the use of the term "curry" which is a whole diff colonial-related thing or we could just admit that the group of dishes included in what Britishers mean by "curry" just knocks pasta out cold

gross rainbow of haerosmith (underrated aerosmith albums I have loved), Wednesday, 28 July 2010 15:03 (thirteen years ago) link

Bacon, Chicken, Pasta, Salad. (Though I would take pizza or hard cheeses over bacon, fwiw.)

if more of the pig were included i'd be up on the porcine selecta. PORK CHEEK.

What exactly are the hard cheeses under question here? Cheddar? Parmesan?

Gravel Puzzleworth, Wednesday, 28 July 2010 15:10 (thirteen years ago) link

Good cheddar on its own destroys 90 percent of this poll so it doesn't matter really

flashing drill + penis fan (Noodle Vague), Wednesday, 28 July 2010 15:11 (thirteen years ago) link

any cheeses that aren't like brie & camembert & that kinda thing

I've done my time as a veggie too - I didn't get enough iron. I'd be vegetarian if I could be a lazy one. no real attachment to meat tbh.

I'm fortunate in that my job allows me luxuriant amounts of time in the kitchen when I'm not away - I'm the cook in my house, & I usually start meal-planning for dinner around midday. When I'm out on the road at work, eating well is a challenge for sure
