ten ppl have had stone

pies. (gbx), Friday, 6 August 2010 23:42 (thirteen years ago) link

you think? We can totally do that, too. Might be more interesting. Would certainly include more people.

Can we get a mod to change the title to represent this?

Official Cheese-Filled Snack of NASCAR since 2002 (B.L.A.M.), Friday, 6 August 2010 23:43 (thirteen years ago) link

NOT FUCKING Carling, or Boddington's, or any English lager ever

Kinda wishin' this was a pan-alcoholic thing, 8-10 spots out of 64 reserved for beer styles.

Thought this could be an all-beverage fight. Maybe do a separate one for juices then pit the two winners together?

let it sb (acoleuthic), Friday, 6 August 2010 23:43 (thirteen years ago) link

Ten people have had Stone

Yes, but FIVE of them are ME, so it bears inclusion.

My liver and Marxist science tell me not to mix the alcohols and the non-alcohols.

10 beers, 15 wines, 20 base liquors, then liqueurs, cordials, bitters, etc

Just throwin' ideas out there.

lots of xposts, you guys have moved past my thinking already

cocktails are a good idea

I think so, too. I mean, we had hard cheese and pizza in the last one, right?

key hard alcohols + key cocktails

iatee, Friday, 6 August 2010 23:50 (thirteen years ago) link

Specific drink recipes? I dunno, seems like they'd be overpowered in Rd 1.

Like I say, I'm tossing ideas like end-of-pub-crawl cookies, I bow to whatever the final decisions are without complaint.

it's not like we lose ilx points for not partaking in a poll.

oreo speed wiggum (The Cursed Return of the Dastardly Thermo Thinwall), Saturday, 7 August 2010 00:59 (thirteen years ago) link

forced in the sense that, if they have opinions on 3 of the matchups and haven't tried the other two, they either have to not vote or vote for something they're unfamiliar with

too many cocktails in the list. i mean, sex on the beach, who drinks that?

perry aka pear cider
wheat beer
port
alcopops

ledge, Saturday, 7 August 2010 10:05 (thirteen years ago) link

port lol u british

does alcopops include md2020?

cozen, Saturday, 7 August 2010 11:04 (thirteen years ago) link

Cider/Scrumpy/Perry is essential, it would be like leaving apples off the food poll.

More leftfield:

Fortified Wine (Buckie etc)
Amaretto
Pernod

State Attorney Foxhart Cubycheck (Billy Dods), Saturday, 7 August 2010 11:15 (thirteen years ago) link

Fortified Wine (Buckie etc)

make that "low end fortified wine" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Low-end_fortified_wine, that'll do for mad dog too. alcopops are much classier.

ledge, Saturday, 7 August 2010 11:35 (thirteen years ago) link

what are the top alcopops these days? *reminisces on news features abt 'hooch'*

cozen, Saturday, 7 August 2010 11:50 (thirteen years ago) link

breezers I guess. is smirnoff ice an alcopop?

cozen, Saturday, 7 August 2010 11:51 (thirteen years ago) link

the only one worth considering.

HOOS' THE BOSS (ken c), Saturday, 7 August 2010 13:31 (thirteen years ago) link

surely the final 64 needs to come from a league (poll) from each group?

Beers
Cocktails
Wine
Spirits

and the allocation of the 64 will be based on the coefficient for each group? (based on total votes in each category's poll)

HOOS' THE BOSS (ken c), Saturday, 7 August 2010 13:36 (thirteen years ago) link

that would be 16/16/16/16 right? I don't think there are enough 'types of beer'/'types of spirits' that would be universally familiar. might work with individual beers or spirits.

(Feel free to quibble with this.)

jaymc, Monday, 9 August 2010 18:04 (thirteen years ago) link

would the "spirits" bracket include liqueurs?

people are for loving (HI DERE), Monday, 9 August 2010 18:13 (thirteen years ago) link

or would you just break it down like for example:

rum
tequila
vodka
gin
scotch
brandy
bourbon
whiskey
congac
schnapps
jenever
mezcal
ouzo
armagnac
chiew
applejack

people are for loving (HI DERE), Monday, 9 August 2010 18:18 (thirteen years ago) link

(pulled from here: http://www.physics.uq.edu.au/people/nieminen/spirits.html )

people are for loving (HI DERE), Monday, 9 August 2010 18:18 (thirteen years ago) link

i think this is just too much. an all encompassing booze poll, i mean...

the food poll was a mishmash of ingredients, specific foods, and whole dish-styles. i guess that kind of works for booze too, in some ways, since, say 'drambuie' and 'chartreuse' are brands as well as the only thing of its kind.

but man, i dunno.

goole, Monday, 9 August 2010 18:22 (thirteen years ago) link

as someone who deals with categorizing information and someone who loves to drink this is really bugging me out

goole, Monday, 9 August 2010 18:23 (thirteen years ago) link

unicum vs malört would be kind of fantastic, particularly if you had to taste-test before voting

haha @ ^^^^

people are for loving (HI DERE), Monday, 9 August 2010 18:34 (thirteen years ago) link

again I think a (pass) option is key here

I'mna bet there's nobody here who will have tried all 64, no matter what we end up with

iatee, Monday, 9 August 2010 18:51 (thirteen years ago) link

fully support jaymc's 16 btw

iatee, Monday, 9 August 2010 18:52 (thirteen years ago) link

ONE example for each is a great idea too

iatee, Monday, 9 August 2010 18:53 (thirteen years ago) link

ha i bet i will have tried all 64, but i realize that i am a special case

NOT FUNNY NEEDS MORE CGI (jjjusten), Monday, 9 August 2010 19:57 (thirteen years ago) link

Alright, I'm going to work this thing up.

Its going to be an all-alcoholic bevs poll, out of the interest of seeing a good bit of trans-category conflict.

I'm going to keep jaymc's 16 beers.
