Hmm...I've never had the #2 spot in a real draft before. I WILL BLOW THIS.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 7 September 2010 00:35 (thirteen years ago) link

I did -- totally self-indulgent, but what the fuck, we're in the End Times anyway, amirite? xp

Donovan Dagnabbit (WmC), Tuesday, 7 September 2010 00:36 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm pretty into my team. Good draft, everybody!

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 7 September 2010 01:50 (thirteen years ago) link

i've got this thing wrapped up.

MikeJonze, Tuesday, 7 September 2010 01:51 (thirteen years ago) link

with just 8 teams, everyone gets to go home feeling good about themselves. it's like the special olympics.

Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 7 September 2010 01:52 (thirteen years ago) link

hahaha

Donovan Dagnabbit (WmC), Tuesday, 7 September 2010 01:55 (thirteen years ago) link

imo iatee looks like the most formidable opponent on paper.

Here's my team:

QB - Peyton Manning / Ben Rofflesburger / Sam Bradford
WR - Joshua Cribbs / Marques Colston / Chad Ochocinco / Steve Breaston
RB - DeAngelo Williams / Pierre Thomas / Jerome Harrison / Ricky Williams / LaRod Stephens-Howling
TE - Vernon Davis / Vistanthe Shiancoe
K - Lawrence Tynes
DEF - Green Bay
IDP - D.J. Williams / Yeremiah Bell / Rolando McClain

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 7 September 2010 02:17 (thirteen years ago) link

Peyton as 1st QB taken was o_O

Donovan Dagnabbit (WmC), Tuesday, 7 September 2010 02:29 (thirteen years ago) link

I like him. ALSO, he's been the Yahoo QB points leader the past two years (ahead of Brees and Rogers and Brady).

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 7 September 2010 02:44 (thirteen years ago) link

Not hot for WRs, Johnny?

Mordy, Tuesday, 7 September 2010 02:46 (thirteen years ago) link

My draft was based on fantasy value, not irl value.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 7 September 2010 02:50 (thirteen years ago) link

(but also dudes I like watching on tv)

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 7 September 2010 02:56 (thirteen years ago) link

Just meant that you don't have a clear #1 WR -- Colston is #1 Saints receiver but Brees likes to spread it around, and Ochocinco may be great or may be underwhelming. Nothing as safe as the Williams pick (btw, when did you pick? did you take Manning in the first round?)

Mordy, Tuesday, 7 September 2010 03:00 (thirteen years ago) link

I took Manning with the #2 pick in the first round, sacrificing my chance at Adrian Peterson. But I wanted him, and I knew I wasn't going to get him at #15.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 7 September 2010 03:08 (thirteen years ago) link

You're a huge Colts fan!

Mordy, Tuesday, 7 September 2010 03:09 (thirteen years ago) link

Cribbs is my #1 wr, btw. We're including return yardage, and he's a beast in that category. But he's ALSO turning into a really legit receiver if the pre-season means anything.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 7 September 2010 03:10 (thirteen years ago) link

I'm aware this may all blow up in my face, fwiw. But convention has failed me in the past.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 7 September 2010 03:11 (thirteen years ago) link

How many points are you guys counting for return yards? 1 for every 10?

Mordy, Tuesday, 7 September 2010 03:11 (thirteen years ago) link

1 for every 15.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 7 September 2010 03:12 (thirteen years ago) link

Man, idk. lol. I don't see Cribbs as a #1 receiver but good luck. Maybe you know something I don't about Delhomme :P

Mordy, Tuesday, 7 September 2010 03:14 (thirteen years ago) link

I've never had luck with wr's in fantasy anyway, so I try to draft stronger in other areas.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 7 September 2010 03:15 (thirteen years ago) link

I think Fever and I are on the same wavelength here -- maybe the top half dozen WRs from scrimmage have the value of Joe Schmoe WR who is also a return guy.

Donovan Dagnabbit (WmC), Tuesday, 7 September 2010 03:20 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah, but legit regular return guys are rare and prone to severe injury and most of them aren't joe schmos, they're wes welkers and joshua cribbs and devin hesters.

Gulab jamun (Gulab Jamun) into the syrup please. (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 7 September 2010 03:35 (thirteen years ago) link

Johnnie Lee Higgins put up insane numbers for me 2 seasons ago, week in/week out. (I didn't play last year.) Much more valuable than even my #1 drafted WR. Who remembers that 51-point David Harris game?

Donovan Dagnabbit (WmC), Tuesday, 7 September 2010 03:59 (thirteen years ago) link

I remember it. MikeJonze beat the snot out of me that week David Harris tacked every player on the field at least twice.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 7 September 2010 04:09 (thirteen years ago) link

fuck i have no idea how to draft IDPs. Are linebackers the only ones really worth starting?

symsymsym, Tuesday, 7 September 2010 04:11 (thirteen years ago) link

There are some corners and safetys and ends who get a fair amount of tackles/forced fumbles/interceptions, but linebackers are the most reliable choice.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 7 September 2010 04:12 (thirteen years ago) link

It's a risk-reward game -- LBs rack up more tackles and sacks, but a cornerback can either come up with a big zero, or they might get INTs and pick-sixes.

Donovan Dagnabbit (WmC), Tuesday, 7 September 2010 04:16 (thirteen years ago) link

RE: Josh Cribbs...you may think he's going to be a fantasy monster b/c of the points for return yardage and the fact that he's going to be more integrated into the passing game. But from what I've seen, in cases where explosive return men win a spot in the offensive rotation (and subsequently a pay raise), it usually results in two things: 1) they don't manage to make the transition that successfully b/c of the learning curve, and 2) they see their role in the return game dwindle or completely disappear altogether since coaches & management don't want to risk injury to a player that they have a lot of money tied up in. See Devin Hester.

MikeJonze, Tuesday, 7 September 2010 16:13 (thirteen years ago) link

altho cribbs was basically a starter on O last season already. he's definitely a bit of a gamble fantasy-wise for those reasons, but what else have the browns got if they don't keep putting him in at wr and kick returns? he got all their points last year.

Roberto Spiralli, Tuesday, 7 September 2010 16:22 (thirteen years ago) link

I think I should've started Visanthe tonight.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 10 September 2010 02:01 (thirteen years ago) link

wth is "fantasy with video"? also, wth is "fantasy with dots".

no gut busting joke can change history (polyphonic), Friday, 10 September 2010 02:03 (thirteen years ago) link

I like these fractional points. No more ties.

Donovan Dagnabbit (WmC), Friday, 10 September 2010 03:02 (thirteen years ago) link

Ha! I actually tied exactly with someone in a league last year WITH fractional points.

Johnny Fever, Friday, 10 September 2010 03:04 (thirteen years ago) link

hahaha, dang.

Donovan Dagnabbit (WmC), Friday, 10 September 2010 03:05 (thirteen years ago) link

This kinda sucks, I'm going to be on the road during the first two Sundays. But I should be able to find some time Thursday while I'm in airports to make week 2 adjustments.

Donovan Dagnabbit (WmC), Sunday, 12 September 2010 16:42 (thirteen years ago) link

wish i played matt forte

Picture me ¯\(°_°)/¯ ing (symsymsym), Monday, 13 September 2010 05:17 (thirteen years ago) link

what happened on the waiver wire this morning? rex ryan express had multiple pickups processed before my first free agent pickup went through, despite the fact that the player i was shooting for was the 2nd claim to go through for him.

MikeJonze, Wednesday, 15 September 2010 16:31 (thirteen years ago) link

Are you sure you pressed the button twice to confirm your drop/add? I mean, you know what you're doing, I know, but I've been fucked that way before by forgetting to take the process all the way to fruition. Otherwise, I don't know what to do. Do you take it up with Yahoo or do I?

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 15 September 2010 16:55 (thirteen years ago) link

no, i definitely did not pull a calvin johnson. i followed through all the way. i had five different acquisitions lined up in order of priority. brandon jackson was my #1. my second choice (brandon tate) went through, but it looks like it was after rex ryan express already made two transactions. that doesn't seem right.

MikeJonze, Wednesday, 15 September 2010 17:01 (thirteen years ago) link

Hmm, the only thing I can think is to not pay attention to the times that are shown that correlate with the waiver pickups. There's probably a Yahoo supercomputer somewhere that sorts it all and then drops players into peoples rosters in lumps instead of neat and orderly. Like, it may LOOK like rrx got all his waiver picks before you got your first, but it probably just looks that way in the list.

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 15 September 2010 17:09 (thirteen years ago) link

ah, i think you're right. if jackson was actually rex ryan's first choice and he got him w/ his first claim, then everything else would make sense.

MikeJonze, Wednesday, 15 September 2010 17:14 (thirteen years ago) link

rex ryan express here
jackson was my first choice
and at the start of the day I had the #1 waiver priority

on the subject of waivers, after the waiver deadline do undrafted (non/dropped) players still need to go through waivers to be added or are they free agents and can get picked up on a first come first serve basis? I ask because I did a drop/add of meachem for lloyd this morning and it immediately went through before my waivers started

jbn, Wednesday, 15 September 2010 19:22 (thirteen years ago) link

There's a free agency period every week for players who aren't already on rosters or who haven't been dropped into waivers. The "official" waiver period lasts from kickoff on Sunday to Wednesday morning...after that everyone's up for grabs until kickoff the next Sunday (UNLESS a player has been dropped by someone to get a different player, or just dropped altogether...then they have their own waiver period).

Johnny Fever, Wednesday, 15 September 2010 19:32 (thirteen years ago) link

thanks, that makes it clear.

jbn, Wednesday, 15 September 2010 19:58 (thirteen years ago) link

looks like yahoo also was experiencing some kind of problem in processing waivers this week. there's a message from them at the top of our league page apologizing for the delay. perhaps that's why jbn was able to pick up lloyd before all the other waiver claims went through.

MikeJonze, Wednesday, 15 September 2010 23:27 (thirteen years ago) link

i had won when i went to bed, but now rex ryan picked up a couple points from adjustments to move into the lead...

Picture me ¯\(°_°)/¯ ing (symsymsym), Monday, 20 September 2010 16:03 (thirteen years ago) link

frank gore is on tonight so I doubt my lead is gonna hold

jbn, Monday, 20 September 2010 16:47 (thirteen years ago) link

here we go again w/ the wacky waivers.

MikeJonze, Wednesday, 22 September 2010 12:19 (thirteen years ago) link

What's wacky?
