indie hipsters are actually pretty split about ATP, tbh

kenanpolaris (Whiney G. Weingarten), Saturday, 18 September 2010 20:33 (thirteen years ago) link

I know, it was just a joke about that thread you started a while back :)

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 18 September 2010 20:57 (thirteen years ago) link

:)

kenanpolaris (Whiney G. Weingarten), Saturday, 18 September 2010 21:05 (thirteen years ago) link

the same joke could be used to explain why Yob never come to Glasgow, but i dont think ATP even bothers with Glasgow.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 18 September 2010 21:07 (thirteen years ago) link

The thought of an ATP being held in Ayr does amuse me.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 18 September 2010 21:10 (thirteen years ago) link

An all metal ATP in Scotland would be great.

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 18 September 2010 21:13 (thirteen years ago) link

headliner would be Metallica playing their genre-defining 2003 LP in full

☞ ☹ (markers), Saturday, 18 September 2010 21:15 (thirteen years ago) link

we're discussing metal here, not soft arena rock

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 18 September 2010 21:17 (thirteen years ago) link

headliner would be Staind playing their genre-defining 2003 LP in full

☞ ☹ (markers), Saturday, 18 September 2010 21:18 (thirteen years ago) link

there's a difference?

pfunkboy (Herman G. Neuname), Saturday, 18 September 2010 21:26 (thirteen years ago) link

They have it for sale at my local indie record shop.

Uta Plotkin is a badass. That show in Seattle was so fun. I drove us home after the show and almost killed the whole band in a freak hydroplane.

YOB is love.

Mike Scheidt of YOB will be releasing his first solo, and for that matter his first acoustic, record later this year via Thrill Jockey.

Solo album o_0

No one around here likes it but it's weirdly growing on me. Not sure why or how. Those super earnest vocals and spoken bits certainly require some suspension of, err, irony.

If Assholes Could Fly This Place Would Be An Airport, Wednesday, 15 August 2012 20:54 (eleven years ago) link

His new material at the live shows is really going somewhere. He doesn't even play most of the album songs live anymore. Rapid growth as per usual. Mike throws away better songs than most people will ever write.

Recorded at Gung Ho Studio in Eugene, notorious for its reserve of vintage equipment, alongside longtime collaborator/iconic sound-sage Billy Barnett, and mastered by Brad Boatright (Sleep, Beastmilk, Nails) at Audiosiege Engineering, Clearing The Path To Ascend is undoubtedly the crowning achievement for a band whose journey now nears two decades of creating music as commanding as it is cathartic.

Could be hyperbole but I love the buildup.

seeing 'em tonight, looking fwd to it. I don't get wrapped up in their music the way a lot of ppl to but when I saw them in London a couple of years back w/o really hearing them beforehand they were p undeniable

for sale: Bebe's boots, never worn (DJ Mencap), Thursday, 4 September 2014 15:23 (nine years ago) link

first listen thru i found it kinda tedious, maybe i just need more of a lock-in on the hypnotic elements. but when they get all neurosisy and substitute anguished bellowing for whatever else they've got going, i find it hard to maintain an interest.

newest album is really entrancing. esp all the open high strings they let ring out all the time....

Hammer Smashed Bagels, Wednesday, 25 March 2015 01:26 (nine years ago) link

i can't believe how great Great Cessation is. like I love all their albums that I'd bought previously but I bought this one at the show and it's just so supremely dark and savage, but constructed so well, with some really pretty passages in there.

unfortunately there were some dickheads trying to mosh (to yob?!) and they squashed the vibe temporarily

I saw Yob last year with one of my best friends, who had a mental breakdown earlier that day and almost missed the show. She started crying during "Our Raw Heart", and then went up to Mike to take a picture with him after and he said "I think you need one of these" and hugged her.

He is such a dope guy.

seeing them in Nawlins next week.

they played my favorite Yob song (all 20+ min of "Catharsis") when I saw them last week -- i could not be more grateful to have heard this superlong song performed live and in person. Yob is generous!

Wearing the shirt as I type. I am so glad I went to this show, so grateful for this band's existence. Beauty in Falling Leaves was breathtaking live.

What an odd bill though. Not that I'm complaining, Voivod is the shit.

ascai, Wednesday, 3 April 2019 21:01 (five years ago) link

Beauty in Falling Leaves was one that I was sad that didn't get played at last year's show so I'm hoping to hear it.

Scheidt has one of the scariest death growls ever. it's so primal

i once cried to "The Lie That is Sin" live so it fits.
