Odd, because it's the stereotypical women's diet food.

i just took a few forkfuls of cottage cheese and then walked over to the computer and opened ilx

i prefer lowfat/fat-free most of the time, tends to just taste better. y/n?

sleepingbag, Friday, 24 September 2010 05:24 (thirteen years ago) link

I pretty much only like it just by itself. I especially don't care for it in lasagna, where it tends to make everything too watery.

only disgusting savages put cottage cheese in lasagna. i saw paula deen do this once on jay leno's show and he was like "i'm italian; this hurts me in my heart."

her response was that you can't get ricotta in the south. smh.

cottage cheese pancakes are incredibly classic

clotpoll, Friday, 24 September 2010 05:30 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah tbh cottage cheese should not be sullied by other food, best eaten directly from the tub via comically oversized spoon

omg

Cottage cheese can be eaten by itself, with fruit and sugar, with salt and pepper, with fruit puree, on toast, with tomatoes, with granola and cinnamon, as a chip dip, as a replacement for mayonnaise in tuna or chicken salad, in salads, or used as an ingredient in recipes such as jello salad and various desserts. Cottage cheese with fruit such as pears or peaches is a standard side dish in many "home cooking" or meat-and-three restaurants' menus in the United States.

like… tuna sandwich tuna salad?

i can't even comprehend

It must be pointed out that loving cottage cheese can totally depend on where you live. In NZ, cottage cheese was one of my favourite foods ever. So satisfyingly dense, so salty and creamy. Mm. Now I live in Canada, and it is inedible here. Even the full-fat variety is total bullshit. Just soupy and tasteless and disgusting.

Dairy products in general are shit here, really. Quite amazing what a different it makes when you actually allow cows out to pasture.

Cottage cheese, I miss you. You are one of the first things I get at the shops when I go home to visit.

Whats the diff between cottage cheese and ricotta? I've ever worked that out.

my cat stalks me whenever I have dairy products, but he especially goes nuts for cottage cheese. was sure the little dude was going to try to shove his head in my mouth, he was smelling my breath so intently

six years pass...

It feels like cottage cheese is in decline. Like, it's heyday has come and gone.

I thought it had a bit of a hipster resurgence a couple years ago. At any rate it's delicious

Cottage cheese pancakes:

1 cup cottage cheese
3 eggs
2 tbsp melted butter
1/4 cup whole wheat flour

The pancakes have to be little, like 2 inches across or so. The griddle has to be very hot or they will stick (but this is true of all pancakes.) They are delicious.

Dan S, Tuesday, 9 March 2021 00:29 (three years ago) link

everyone is suspicious of them until they try them, and then they are blown away by how good they are

Lily Dale, Tuesday, 9 March 2021 00:30 (three years ago) link
