yeah ok i guess i should have added 'very listenable' to the list of things you should not expect lil b music to be

Rain In England will make my top 10 this year most likely. I don't think it's the best thing Lil B's done but its an essential part of his continuing evolution. Not very listenable, but that's a good quality to me. It makes sense that Weird Forest put it out.

it is hilariously entertaining tbh

The Reverend, Wednesday, 29 September 2010 03:12 (thirteen years ago) link

so this is like dior paint right?

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 29 September 2010 03:12 (thirteen years ago) link

i'm waiting to order it before i listen to it, but is there any actual good rapping on it? because I actually like lil b's rapping on his more conscious tracks so if the album is like that over "ambient sounscapes" might actually be good and not just in novelty sense

everybody started jerkin' off the music (The Brainwasher), Wednesday, 29 September 2010 03:14 (thirteen years ago) link

or is he just talking over "ambient" "new age" "mood music" which is kind of the impression i'm getting?

everybody started jerkin' off the music (The Brainwasher), Wednesday, 29 September 2010 03:15 (thirteen years ago) link

i don't think there's ANY rapping

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 29 September 2010 03:15 (thirteen years ago) link

how is it the best rap album album ever if theres no rapping tho

everybody started jerkin' off the music (The Brainwasher), Wednesday, 29 September 2010 03:16 (thirteen years ago) link

naw, he raps, just over ambient shit w/ no drums

The Reverend, Wednesday, 29 September 2010 03:18 (thirteen years ago) link

The Reverend, Wednesday, 29 September 2010 03:21 (thirteen years ago) link

I haven't heard either of the paint joints tho, so i can't really compare

Sargent Slaughter

how did we come this far without this happening yet

goole, Wednesday, 29 September 2010 19:17 (thirteen years ago) link

idk but i've been hearing that shit since i was like 6 years old

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 29 September 2010 19:23 (thirteen years ago) link

i kinda like sage francis, not a ton, but honestly that track was doing sort of a "rapping over non-rhythmic kinda arty ambient stuff" but honestly for what he does i thought it was good and pretty affecting and personal.

it goes back to what i said upthread, i think that lil' b does shit that if it was some backpacker like sage francis did it would be considered lame because they are lame and lil' b is fascinating ergo everything he does must be fascinating because he's so fascinating.

this is exactly why i posted it, but of course someone had to be all "UNNHHH BACKPACKER COOTIES" white guilt pathetic about it; and I could have bet money it would been j0rdan

and yes, like the whole noz-style argument that "rap has an avant-garde" is mega-stupid because there's people like Anti-Pop Consortium and Dalek and Themselves who make dope shit on the regular, but aren't "AUTHENTIC" enough for critics

fuck noOoOO (Whiney G. Weingarten), Wednesday, 29 September 2010 19:31 (thirteen years ago) link

what the fuck does white guilt have to do w/ thinking that sage francis is a cornball

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 29 September 2010 19:31 (thirteen years ago) link

for the record, if m@tt had asked, is 'rain in england' better than the new whoo da kid song that deej posted in the autogoon thread, i would've said "who listened to the new whoo da kid that deej posted in the autogoon thread?" except it would've been slightly less funny because clowning waka flocka's ipad carriers is not as funny as clowning sage francis

J0rdan S., Wednesday, 29 September 2010 19:34 (thirteen years ago) link

I think Belle And Sebastian are cornballs, but if someone who's opinion I trusted was all "Hey they're doing something different here that I think you might appreciate" I wouldn't scream "FUCK YOU, PUSSY!" and slam the door in their face

I would pay good money for Whiney to find ways to respond to anybody about anything without doing an imitation of them typing in all caps.

The Anticon collective might be the most maligned Hip Hop crew of all time. They were borne of an era where originality wasn't an occasional well-publicized freak out or Auto-Tuned side project, it was constantly expected. No biting allowed. Anticon were direct descendants of style obsessed otherworldly emcees like Pharoahe Monch and Saafir but as crew consisting primarily of white and/or well educated and/or suburban rappers, their otherworld seemed, well, a little too other. The average Hip Hop listener responded somewhere between hate and indifference. So the collective withdrew, they slowed down on rapping and began to make, for lack of a better term, white people music, limping towards indie rock and more experimental electronic aspirations. theFREEhoudini, the latest album (disguised as a mixtape and a teaser for their 'proper' full length CrownsDown) from the labels flagship rapper/producer duo Themselves has been billed as their formal return (or apology?) to the world of Hip Hop. [continues]

who could this author be? perhaps the same dude who said his "new favorite rap crew" were on some antipop consortium shit.

lol stay saving these massively critically maligned artists

zvookster, Wednesday, 29 September 2010 20:16 (thirteen years ago) link

urgh. anticon suck not because they are white or educated but because they obv prefer listening to radiohead than wutang.
