maybe it's a regional thing, most of the aging mods in melb are pretty nice peeps. don't really know any aging punx tho tbh

Older punk dudes are usually quite endearing, mods are insufferable regardless of age.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 30 September 2010 11:12 (thirteen years ago) link
See, the whole "mod" look is something I could 'carry off' but it's nothing I want.. (no desire to own a scooter, parkas were always a red herring, and it was always about looking good at age 20, not looking "mod" at age 50).
xpost I have good hair (i.e. I have (non-grey) hair)

older moddy dudes i have encountered often have gd taste knowledge of jazz/soul/modernism in gen, whereas i once got dragged to a rezillos reunion show by ageing punka friends and it was one of the worst nights of my life (also gold blade in support ugh)
― Ward Fowler, Thursday, 30 September 2010 11:13 (thirteen years ago) link
I encounter a lot more aging punx than aging mods, but most aging punk dudes are A+ would hang out with again, so them.
Sort of realising if I actually dressed like a punk I would probably qualify as an aging punk dude now though...

xpost Goldblade are a curse on society, luckily when I went to see X-Ray Spex with them supporting I timed it just right to miss their entire set.

I have it on good authority that Charlie Harper from UK Subs is the best aging punk dude in the world, and that John Robb is a pain in the hole.
Old mod haircuts are terrible, yes. My local pub appears full of them, and, just, no.

the old mods round my way, afaict, are sort of on the fringes of the Cardiff City hooligan cabal without being actual 'Soul Crew'
the old punks drink big plastic bottles of Olde English then come to gigs and lambast everyone else for not dancing
a winner is punx

Nah my answer last night was mostly a factor of having to type on my little phone keyboard, really aging punks prob have the best outlook on life and are the nicest to be around. Pretty much if you survived the era and have moderately got some of your shit together, are drug-free, etc, a mellowed-out punk sounds unbeatable to me.
Mod dress ages really well on its own, though -- the sillier parts not obv but suits & tailored leisure stuff are always going to look good/feel good.

Old goths, mods and punks are OK, but from experience I've concluded that old power-pop fans are the worst BY FAR. You'll know you've encountered a power-pop fan when they get butthurt about their precious genre being lumped in with other mere generic rock.

There are so many old goths in this town - 40 to 50+ year olds, some running stores, some just being regular people who happen to still have long purple hair and velvet dresses.
I think its p easy to be an elegant older goth lady.

there are so few mods in the u.s. that i'm actually happy on the rare occasion i see one out in the wild. i approve of scooters (if driven safely). i like it when people dress nice.
old punks can be fun as long as they still listen to new music, and if their heads haven't completely been done in by 30-some years of drug/alcohol abuse.

Thinking there's a difference between Aging Mods and Aging Paul Weller Fans, tho it's easy to get the two confused. That horrible haircut that was acceptable when 19-y-o Steve Marriott had it in 1966 but is a fucking disgrace when you're 47 in 2010 is more indicative of Aging Paul Weller Fans than Aging Mods.

we also need to differentiate between standard mod style and hippie john lennon granny glasses mod style.
this needs to go away forever:

They have a scooter rally at Largs every summer and while you occasionally see someone in full quadrophenia get-up, it's more likely they'll have a parka, stonewashed tesco jeans and a beer belly, I still shout 'WE ARE THE MODS' at them though, an't help myself :)

An aging punk dude was being really sneakily racist to a black friend of mine in the pub recently, and just ambiguously enough that no one could take him to task on it. It was was horrible.
