I saw White Ring last night and it was really good, even if there were only five people there and their set seemed to consist of only four songs.

Do Demdike Stare belong to this group? Or are they... mmm... witchstep?

white ring are pretty good live! though they will be better when they can hire people to put the stage together beforehand for them, seeing them wandering about fiddling with wires wasn't good for the ~mystique~

I just watched the Fader Fort videos. That is some terrible performance, I couldn't stop laughing. They're either some of the finest trolls in music right now or really, honestly fucked up by drugs.

I kinda want to see a 'Salem Shreds' video now.

there's more differences than similarities in these bands for all of them to be put under one big tent, me thinks. I still don't get why this particular trend in electronic music is getting so much attention among those that have bothered to check for it. It's like hype for the sake of hype. What are we averaging now, a new buzz genre to hate every 3 months? That said, the guy behind ooOoOO has very interesting ideas and I think of all the acts, this will be the one to release songs that I'll want to hear the same time next year.

ILX has been talking about those guys for a long time now in that Odd Future thread (cos thats who it is).

Is anyone else familiar w/ this dude? His myspace claims that he invented witch house, which I hadn't even known existed til I saw him randomly at DIY-venue concert. He opened up for Crystal Castles on NYE in Boulder a week back. I've talked to him personally but sort of consider him a douche, just on the superficial "look at what i'm wearing" level.

Are Holy Other witch house, then? Heard "Your Love" randomly on the radio last night (OK, not randomly, on one of Erol Alkan's radio shows) and was completely struck by it, but out of context it seemed a lot more ambient-ish, like a slowed-down fuzzy version of The Field. But I'm hopeless with trying to get my head around genre. And I didn't really like the other MP3 that's floating around the interweb.

Anyway, I like it.

I've heard Holy Other pegged as such, but I don't really have a feel for what that genre tag means myself... I do like the new EP quite a lot, too.

so um this is awesome but not nearly as atmospheric as the other stuff under the witch house umbrella

like, even Creep has a chilly detachment to it; all of this is pretty much straight ahead bangin' dark synth pop, totally extroverted with none of the claustrophobia I consider to be the essential ingredient to a witch house track

Kinda lame how dismissive Pitchfork is about this just because it's the Deftones dude. Deftones were a pretty interesting band, and Team Sleep, from what I recall, was way more radical than a lot of the shit getting Best New Music reviews these days. "Deftones dude," really?
