Pretty sure it's Stereogum -- I just looked this up the other day.

There's stats here for the blogs which carry BlogAds.

I think it's Pingsound, or possibly Audiocrank

so how about the ethics of collecting ad revenue on music one is "cheerleading" for? Can't figure that one out.

brokeback titty sanskrit (sanskrit), Thursday, 19 January 2006 22:05 (eighteen years ago) link

(Btw, that's not a comprehensive list I posted -- just random blogs that came to my mind.)

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 19 January 2006 22:07 (eighteen years ago) link

one method of measuring blog popularity is checking subscriber numbers on bloglines

music for robots 399
fluxblog has 235
largehearted boy has 197

if any of these blogs have different formats atom rdf rss or feedburner - then they could have more subscribers

you can't go by hits per day because all trackers measure differently, and in some cases the blogs fake their numbers.

I like this technorati x del.icio.us thingy someone forwarded over the other day

Alexa rankings are not very good.

sean gramophone (Sean M), Thursday, 19 January 2006 22:22 (eighteen years ago) link

I'm cool with people doing whatever they like in terms of their own stuff, but I find selling ad space on a website where you're giving away another person's music to be a pretty unsavory thing to do.
I have no idea what my stats are; I think I was at something like 8500 unique views a week last time I checked. Since I've taken to updating once every time I see Halley's comet, that's likely dropped.

Forksclovetofu (Forksclovetofu), Thursday, 19 January 2006 22:23 (eighteen years ago) link

for relative placement they're definitely accurate enough for this thread. sorry if the idea of drudge getting more hits than fluxblog blows yr mind.

j blount (papa la bas), Thursday, 19 January 2006 22:24 (eighteen years ago) link

to be fair drudge is probably shadier ethically about what ends up on his site and why. probably.

j blount (papa la bas), Thursday, 19 January 2006 22:25 (eighteen years ago) link

hmm... this is the first i've heard of catchdub or mokb

Mitya (mitya), Thursday, 19 January 2006 22:45 (eighteen years ago) link

The Alexa rankings make virtually no sense if you check theirs vs. Blogads (which, yes, goes by page views, but also puts everyone on equal ground via the same counter for everyone who's a member).

Richj (Rich), Thursday, 19 January 2006 22:46 (eighteen years ago) link

20 or 30 people used to read my LiveJournal every day.

Rich J's page hits probably destroy all of the above...now my girlfriend is following your Project Runway re-caps.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Friday, 20 January 2006 03:52 (eighteen years ago) link

Ha, a lot of the info for my own site in this thread is news to me! Since I don't do ads, I don't really go too far out of my way to keep up with traffic numbers and rankings. I mean, I do have a tracker and check it here and there, but it's hard to tell how accurate it is given that it doesn't count RSS and livejournal feeds and such. I did know that Stereogum, Music For Robots, and Largehearted Boy were all more popular than my site, which has never been a big shock to me.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Friday, 20 January 2006 04:03 (eighteen years ago) link

sometimes when i read threads like this i realize the whole blogging thing became a total mystery to me sometime in the last few years. i don't even think i've heard of "Stereogum, Music For Robots, and Largehearted Boy" let alone read them.

also: get off my lawn, you kids

cancer prone fat guy (dubplatestyle), Friday, 20 January 2006 04:09 (eighteen years ago) link

Well, those three sites in particular bear little relationship to the sort of NYPLM/Blissblog/Woebot sort of music blogs that you're into. Stereogum is a comments-box driven site heavy on pop culture gossip and "indie yuppy" music. Largehearted Boy has almost no written content and mostly just links to articles, mp3s, and bittorrent concerts.

"bittorrent concerts"
