I have to go with 'Exciter', which still seems to immediately signal an amazing transition to a new paradigm of metal.

I came here to vote for "Turbo Lover", and now I am sad
― John Justen, Thursday, 6 March 2008 05:56 (sixteen years ago) link
no painkiller?
― latebloomer, Thursday, 6 March 2008 05:56 (sixteen years ago) link
i stopped after 'Defenders' (when Judas Priest broke up in my world, for better or worse) ... I couldn't bare to look any further ... but you can write-in if you like! I promise to tally all write-ins that I may have missed.
"Turbo Lover" doesn't fit the one-word rule! (tho I did kind of cheat with 'the' Ripper)
― Stormy Davis, Thursday, 6 March 2008 06:16 (sixteen years ago) link
oh shit, missed the one word stipulation. You win, I'm dumb.
(also, in truth, there are many better songs on this list than "Turbo Lover", i just had a flash of junior high nostalgia.)

Nice poll Stormy! And thanks for giving me the impetus to create a similar poll, which I shall do post-haste. (Watch for it...)
"Exciter", btw.

Yeah, Painkiller would be my choice if it was there.
Nevertheless, I have to go with The RipPAH!

This is so hard but I have to go with "Sinner". Simon Phillips' drumming on that track just makes it into a new kind of music entirely. His work on the hi-hat during the breakdown is so fucking sweet.

The film Cecil B Demented basically ruined Exciter for me, as I always hear the words "Demented Forever" when I think of that melody now. Hmph, I opened this to vote Painkiller, but I guess I'll go for The Ripper.
― Øystein, Thursday, 6 March 2008 10:26 (sixteen years ago) link
Had to go with Ripper even though it is two words. Just as well you included it cuz I couldn't decide between Sinner and Exciter anyway.
Kinda surprised there's so much luv for later Priest. I didn't realize Painkiller was so popular.

Around A&A's aunties (my wife's sister), they put on a "bet of heavy metal" CD that came free with some paper or other. "Breaking the lawer" came on, and both Amber and Alice went straight into headbanging mode, hand sigs and "BREAKIN THE LAW BREAKING THE LAWer", to auntie's "What are you doing with those kids?" (She's more a formby fan herself..."
