the end was ridiculous, yes - vincent taking an ax to the lights was one of the most baffling things i have seen in any movie. and the endless chase through the subway, with vincent leaping onto the back of a car... anyway, i'm with you on the last fifteen, twenty minutes or so. but that "cool mann look" cannot be overstated! that scene with the coyotes crossing the road made me shiver. overall i think was a solid mann film - not his best, but a solid film in what's been a pretty terrible year for big budget movies.

I have a real problem with logical consistency in movies. I can't let it go and (as William Hurt said in The Big Chill) "let the art wash over me." I enjoyed the film, yes -- moreso while I was watching it than in retrospect. I don't think Jamie Foxx was as good as everyone is saying. I don't think Tom Cruise was a good choice for the role (or any role, but that's just me). And the more I think about the last 20 minutes, the more I feel cheated. It simply doesn't make any sense that he would be ordered to kill the prosecuting attorney. You kill the witnesses, that's the way it works. Killing a prominent attorney isn't extra insurance, it's extra liability. It's a stupid thing to want to do. And that whole "he cannot be killed!" chase sequence at the end was quite ridiculous. And yes, the axe to the lights. Of course! Because... um... he wanted a challenge?
