Again, not really representative, because I delete albums from iTunes when I buy them on CD, so there have been things at the top of thise that have since disappeared.

I'm convinced that gremlins are logging onto this computer while I'm asleep at night and playing television theme songs all night long. There's no way that I've listened to that damn Super Mario Closer thing so much.
That Papas Fritas song tastes just like a gin and tonic, though, and has the same effect on me.

pretty much accurate, though the Prefects show up because I was working on the CD and comparing versions of songs constantly. Seems weighted towards the early days of iTunes usage, when those were among the only things. Now that I have 15,000 songs I don't remember listening to the second Colin Blunstone album so much. I guess I did at some point. I guess this shows that despite the incredibly large and eclectic collection of music I listen to, I often return to the same faves.

A preponderance of short tracks, The Tony Hancock's are 10 second or so clips. I don't listen to itunes much and tend to skip to the next track before the song finishes and registers to the played count.

Track one is the beginning of the CD reissue version of Al Green's "I Want To Hold Your Hand" (from the GREEN IS BLUES elpee). It's basically Al babbling in the studio - something like "WE GOT THE FEELING!" - when somebody sez, "shut up, Al Green!" A short snippet of "I.W.T.H.Y.H." follows. I forget where I got this from, exactly - I downloaded it from a Yousendit file. I may have gotten it from ILM, I forget.

As for the reason it's not all up-to-date and flashy-shiny, well, there are two reasons. Firstly, my initiation into modern music happened in the 90's, and I'm bound to retain a lot from then, and secondly, I've favoured buying music from the recent past over that of the present, because a) it's easier in retrospect to judge what's classic than in the heat of the moment, b) I can always buy stuff that comes out now, but you gotta grab the older shit before it disappears a) out of my consciousness and b) off the shelves, and c) (this c) refers to the original a)-b) sequence) I reckon we're going through a bit of a lull at the moment, a lull which has coincided with the lack of any release by Radiohead or Blur. Just joking, kids. But seriously, 2006 was a pretty shit year!
Plus, the songs up there are just bona fide classics regardless of generation. What a silly point to make, meltingglaciers!

my top 25 is so repetitive and homogenous that i don't wanna type up the whole thing, because i don't listen to a lot of stuff over and over and what i do is usually a certain kind of high energy pop/rock. so my top 25 is 5 Ted Leo songs, 5 Say Anything songs, 5 Steely Dan songs, 2 Sloan songs, 2 Spymob songs, and 1 each by Ruth Ruth, Fall Out Boy, Paramore, Karmella's Game, Peter Gabriel and Massive Attack (last two mainly being on account of my wife playing them a lot).

@Turangalila - sorry I meant Children's Corner not quartet. I'm aware that there is a SQ and solo piano version though. Thank you for your suggestions anyway!

my top 6 tracks are all of white light/white heat from when i left my ipod playing it on repeat in my bag for a couple days.

I know! I kinda want to put mine together as a mix CD for someone. I probably wouldn't have ever consciously come up with that particular mix, but I think it'd work well.

The song I've played the beginning of the most times is A-Ha's The Sun Always Shines on TV because EVERY FUCKING TIME I place my iPod in my stereo/dock without first selecting a tune it plays the first tune alphabetically. I now hate the opening notes of that song so much.
― Dorian (Dorianlynskey), Friday, 22 January 2010 18:36 (fourteen years ago) link
Yeah, a-ha's "The Swing of Things" starts playing sometimes when I first turn my iPod on. Used to be !!! before an iPod software update pushed all numbers and non-alphabetical characters to the bottom.

Yeah, it was !!! for me too but the opening notes of Me and Giuliani weren't half as annoying as a-ha. I need a track with a nondescript intro.

Seems from looking at my playcounts that iTunes is including plays on my Nano as well as on the computer proper. Anybody know whether it works that way? Whether the device playcounts are transferred back to the main library's info?

man just looking at my most-played is painful because six out of the top ten are from times in my life when I was listening to one song on repeat to try to keep myself from sinking into crushing hopelessness & despair & when I sort by most-played I'm like "oh yeah I remember that day, I wanted to die so bad"― Lee Dorrian Gray (J0hn D.)

I think a glitch in syncing and iTunes Match is inflating a lot of these numbers, but this is a pretty accurate representation of songs I never skip when they come up.

Not sure when that was last reset, maybe four years ago. Also not sure why I have 11 tunes there - thought the thread was for top ten, not twenty-five, but failed on both counts.
