Cats actually like coffee. My mom gives her cat a cup of coffee every morning, and it makes him frantic. Perhaps he just likes being high.

Yeah, great thread title. I couldn't resist, though not terribly interested.

Rockist Scientist, Saturday, 15 March 2003 23:11 (twenty-one years ago) link

I thought this thread was going to be about felines eating ganja.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Saturday, 15 March 2003 23:15 (twenty-one years ago) link

Cats are total drug addicts, if you let them be.

Ally (mlescaut), Saturday, 15 March 2003 23:16 (twenty-one years ago) link

yeah those little furballs love their catnip!

catnip = feline crack.

Tad (llamasfur), Saturday, 15 March 2003 23:41 (twenty-one years ago) link

if you love the feline crack, then you really have a problem.

MarkH (MarkH), Sunday, 16 March 2003 18:06 (twenty-one years ago) link

i just read that, and it's bad. i'm just glad that Dan didn't read it first!

I've never tried to give my cats tea, but they were very curious about my hot tottie (sp?) last night. They do like drugs alot though (ie: catnip).

How I post pics here?

But be forwarned that the posting of cat pics to this thread automatically ends the lives of three, yes three, kittens in Outer Mongolia. I'm sorry, but my hands are tied. Ah...yesss...but that's for another reason I can't go into here.......

Oh well, then I didn't kill any cats in Outer Mongolia.

DIFFERENT KINDS OF TEA THAT CATS LIKE THREAD REVIVE!

Ahhh, funk that. My friend Kaye's cat Nicky drinks gin if given half a chance.

j.lu (j.lu), Friday, 23 May 2003 02:41 (twenty years ago) link

actually i revived this thread because i like that picture that amateurist posted ... it's my wallpaper on my work computer now, i have the twee-ist computer of them all!

Tad (llamasfur), Friday, 23 May 2003 02:46 (twenty years ago) link

I love that picture. I like to imagine the cats killed their owners, stuffed them in the basement, and now have the run of the place. And what is the first thing they do? Make tea, of course.

amateurist (amateurist), Friday, 23 May 2003 02:57 (twenty years ago) link

Well, wouldn't you?

Ally (mlescaut), Friday, 23 May 2003 02:59 (twenty years ago) link

Awww dis thread was started on my birthday, bless. :D

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 23 May 2003 04:28 (twenty years ago) link

My cats are very perturbed by lapsang soochong, which is the only tea I drink. They always come over to sniff at the mug, like they do when I have coffee, and then give me this look like "Why God, why?" (I told them I'm God), and run off.

Tep (ktepi), Friday, 23 May 2003 07:04 (twenty years ago) link

if i had cats, they wouldn't be picky. they'd drink lipton's or white rose and love it!

Tad (llamasfur), Saturday, 24 May 2003 02:32 (twenty years ago) link

I'm smiling now.

A Nairn (moretap), Saturday, 24 May 2003 03:56 (twenty years ago) link

"I like to imagine the cats killed their owners, stuffed them in the basement, and now have the run of the place. And what is the first thing they do? Make tea, of course. "

yes, it's very animal-farm-esque.

A Nairn (moretap), Saturday, 24 May 2003 04:01 (twenty years ago) link

I think they prefer Finest Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe.

cow cow, Saturday, 24 May 2003 06:06 (twenty years ago) link

amateurist's pic is less twee since i realised the guy cat is smirking cos he saw that lady cat put her tea down too far away from her chair and she's gonna have to get up again in a second

Chip Morningstar (bob), Saturday, 24 May 2003 13:26 (twenty years ago) link

i like amateurist's take on the picture that he posted. as for me, i just think that it's cute.

and whatever happened to gatinha, anyway?

I bet if cats drank tea, they'd drink it out of teapots shaped like humans.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 02:11 (twenty years ago) link

I'm going to have to come up with the obscurist idea in the whole universe Jim, just to see if you have a jpeg or a pic of Bender to accompany it :D

Stupid doctor saying I shouldn't even drink tea. Bah! I'm so sick of drinking water! And my kitchen is full of lots and lots of wonderful flavors of tea... :-(

Sarah McLUsky (coco), Tuesday, 27 May 2003 12:09 (twenty years ago) link

You're not actually a cat, though, are you?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 10:38 (twenty years ago) link

Oh.

But anywho, I'm gonna take a stab in the dark that cats DON'T like peppermint tea. My kitties hate the smell of toothpaste with a passion. In fact, if I have toothpaste breath, they shrivel up their noses and run away as fast as they can.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 12:06 (twenty years ago) link

OHMIGOD I COME BACK FROM MEMORIAL DAY BREAK AND THIS THREAD IS STILL ACTIVE!! WE'RE SO TWEE!!

Tad (llamasfur), Thursday, 29 May 2003 03:13 (twenty years ago) link

Yay!

This morning my kitties both sat in the bedroom together (which is very rare, lemme tell ya) and meowed and meowed. I went over to draw the curtain, and there was a bluejay sitting out on the line squaking at them. And they meowed back. And nobody looked like they were going to get tired of this game any time soon.

Sorry, that had nothing to do with tea. I miss tea.

Sarah Mclusky (coco), Thursday, 29 May 2003 12:46 (twenty years ago) link

Sarah
Do you think that was the same bluejay that was squawking at us yesterday when we were trying to save its baby by making it leave the laundromat? Maybe it followed us home to heckle us some more.

NA. (Nick A.), Thursday, 29 May 2003 13:17 (twenty years ago) link

Yeah. I bet it's a mobster bluejay and it's gonna keep visiting our house until it kills us both.

Less twee:

Lions and jaguars were extremely sensitive to catnip compared to tigers, cougars, and bobcats, who gave little or no response.

seven years pass...

my cat had no interest in tea, only plain cereal milk. not milky tea, nor pure milk, nor cream, nor the leftover milk from a bowl of sugary cereal; it had to be the dregs from something bland, like cheerios/chex. she was very particular. and decorous, as well, not like other kitties who would try to clamber into the cereal bowl before i'd even finished! no, i'd be halfway through breakfast and notice that she had silently materialized a few feet away, sitting with her floofy tail wrapped neatly around her paws, facing a polite 30 degrees away while i had my last few bites. when i'd place my bowl before her, she'd pretend to be surprised -- "all this, for me? you shouldn't have!" -- and help herself to several happy laps of milk before losing interest & drifting away

De Smurfführer (cat), Thursday, 4 May 2023 21:39 (one year ago) link

and i wouldn't say that i *like* tea, but i drink it everday (otherwise i fall asleep)

De Smurfführer (cat), Thursday, 4 May 2023 21:41 (one year ago) link

10 bags in the cup this morning

still drowsy, la

De Smurfführer (cat), Thursday, 4 May 2023 21:41 (one year ago) link

i've been adding cinnamon sticks as well, the past week or so. nice little spice in the plain tea, or with milk, or fruity whatevers. or both! today was spiced peaches & cream tea: black tea + cinnamon + a little semi-frozen cup of chopped peach + milk + ice

De Smurfführer (cat), Thursday, 4 May 2023 21:46 (one year ago) link

i usually try to keep a bottle of tea brewing in the fridge, too. i oughtta snip some fresh mint one of these mornings, mint + lemon is pretty badass

De Smurfführer (cat), Thursday, 4 May 2023 21:51 (one year ago) link

my secondary ice cube tray is currently full of minced ginger but once i've used that up i should make iced tea cubes, so as to chill my tea with no loss of potency

De Smurfführer (cat), Thursday, 4 May 2023 21:56 (one year ago) link

there's this bag of matcha powder, it's tremendous and i don't know what to do with it, matcha is awful, it tastes like muddy grass and i am not a goose! that is not a flavor i enjoy!!

De Smurfführer (cat), Thursday, 4 May 2023 22:16 (one year ago) link

just had a realization about jasmine tea, namely that i haven't had any in years and this is intolerable! maybe i can sub in rose petals for now. good god i have so much rose petals. my guy ordered a 1 lb bag of them several years ago and there are still just endless handfuls of them, like the bag is enchanted

De Smurfführer (cat), Friday, 5 May 2023 01:01 (one year ago) link

or cursed, since idk wtf to do with all this rose

De Smurfführer (cat), Friday, 5 May 2023 01:02 (one year ago) link

i just whisked a butterscotch pudding cup into my after-dinner cinnamon tea, fyi.

De Smurfführer (cat), Friday, 5 May 2023 02:18 (one year ago) link

Our cats have never shown any interest in tea, but I'm enjoying this revive.

three months pass...

i made lavender honey for a friend, and when i'd strained the flowers from the honey i had, ta-da! honeyed lavender blossoms. i could have made cookies or scones with them, but that's hot and messy, so instead i put them to soak in a small jar of water. now i have a jar of lavender honey water. today i poured a bit into my morning cup of tea, with milk and another spoonful of honey, and as i took the first sip i remembered that lavender tastes revolting, like drinking perfumed antiseptic, and that every other time i've been tempted to ingest lavender i've had the same thought, but keep forgetting, and now i'd ruined a perfectly innocent cup of tea.

sleepy bee (cat), Monday, 4 September 2023 21:36 (eight months ago) link

(it's in the fridge now and i'm titrating it into subsequent teas)

sleepy bee (cat), Monday, 4 September 2023 21:37 (eight months ago) link

(fuck wasting a tea)

sleepy bee (cat), Monday, 4 September 2023 21:37 (eight months ago) link

and as i took the first sip i remembered that lavender tastes revolting, like drinking perfumed antiseptic

haha i was gonna say

Deflatormouse, Tuesday, 5 September 2023 01:09 (eight months ago) link

and yet i keep getting seduced by this vision of a fancy sophisticated cottagecore kitchenwitch me, setting thimbles of garden tea out on the sill for fairies, lounging among the boughs of an ancient willow with flowers in my hair, wearing a simple linen shift ingeniously upcycled from a tablecloth or whatever! i should tattoo reminders on myself like the guy in memento. "stop trying to drink flowers ffs" "wear pants if you're gonna climb a tree" etc

sleepy bee (cat), Tuesday, 5 September 2023 08:45 (eight months ago) link

at first i didn't understand how it related to the thread, but i think i see what you've done

budo jeru, Wednesday, 6 September 2023 02:37 (eight months ago) link

you could still try feeding the lavender tea to your pet cats and let us know how it goes

budo jeru, Wednesday, 6 September 2023 02:37 (eight months ago) link

I thought lavender was supposed to be something cats found repellant so was actually used to keep cats out of areas.
Do they like it as tea then.

Is it then going to be licked all over themselves and give them complexes like.
