Everything this show does is clumsy, it's more like a bad SyFy series than any of the good cable dramas we've gotten used.

still liking this, but hoping theres more subtlety to shanes character than what is sitting there on the surface - i can certainly see dude making the decision to say "yer husband is totes dead" if he watched the hospital overrun knowing dude was in a coma. in fact it would be kinda cruel not to do so, right? false hopes and all of that. as for the boning, well, crisis makes for strange emotional decisions in the interest of comfort so eh i dont see it as a damning moral error or anything

Don't y'all see, though? Rick's wife is female and therefore weak, and needed a man ASAP not just to care for her and her kid in the zombie apocalypse but to give her a little action. I mean, what, it'd been a couple of weeks, right? And he did say her husband was dead and all. Plus, the prospect of everyone you know being torn apart and eaten is a little sexy, isn't it? /sarcasm

this interpretation is more sexist than anything on the show. maybe she was having an affair, and if she did want a little action why would that be weak? people having an affair or being sexually promiscuous is hardly an indictment of their character or a gender specific issue.

Yeah, I can think of a lot of justifiable reasons for telling someone their husband is dead in the middle of a zombie crisis, so there's plenty of room for nuance there if they want to go that route. As for how long Rick was left unattended in the hospital, common sense provides you with an answer - how long can you survive without water? A week to ten days, at most? ~*~*well there you go*~*~

Seriously, though, in any other horror film or show or whatever, doing so would be grounds for instant death, mostly for being stupid but also for waving the big red flag of horror movie morality. (In this case, if it keeps to the comic, it's also a set up for an obvious major plot development). And anyway, it'd be one thing if this were a one-off sort of thing, but this thread has already pointed out this show's dubious view of gender equality, perhaps disguised as "characterization," but perhaps not, given its consistency. Frankly, we don't know enough about any of these people to judge fairly, and they did hint that Rick and his wife (what is her name?) did not have the best marriage. I can't remember, but I think TV Shane has already lasted longer than comic book Shane, so who knows what is going on.

Dude, the characters are stereotypes, the story thus far zombie boilerplate. You want some HUMAN EMOTIONS, read "The Road." This is short-cut, broad-stroke television, through and through, as short-cuts/broad-strokes is what gets viewers. But if you look at past serialized shows, sometimes the writers don't bring their "A" game until season 2, as if they're not willing to get totally invested in a story that may get canned after a mere 6 eps. So yes, stereotypes and boilerplate are a problem, but they're not a real problem unless they keep up through the next season. Keeping the books in mind, I suspect they thankfully won't.

TamTam, I don't think anyone's dumping on you specifically for having an emotional response to the father/son relationship. Lechera's talking bigger picture, and isn't into the stereotypes of the show in general, not just the father son but the whole pot o' zombies.

A salient point was raised earlier. If this camp of survivors knows how bad it is in Atlanta, why the hell are they still so close thereto? It didn't seem like there were that many zombos in the town where the story initially started, right? Wouldn't something like that be smarter than right outside zombo central?

Could have sworn in this past ep when womenfolk were chatting about what they missed most, one said "texting." Coffee maker/texting/vibrator pretty much covers it, though.

re: sex argument - having sex in end of the world scenarios isn't uncommon

dirty southern assholes and the cowboy policeman seems to be the atmosphere of the show so far... it's different than other zombie shows/movies that I know of and I like that the show has this extra layer of above zombie apocalypse stuff. but I can see myself being sort of disappointed if the sexism gets worse or continues to pop up at least once in every single episode. it's more prevalent than racism at this point. it wouldn't be so bad if it was limited to only a few terrible people - which is why I'm hoping that Shane isn't going to be betrayed anymore sexist than he already is

meanwhile I do hope that Carl's character gets developed some more because he has favorite potential. some other characters might have potential as well but I'm not really seeing it yet

I don't think the main guy is going to become much more of a character than the straight-man hero type (with little flaws here and there to humanize him). He is going to be kind of boring in that way. the tough decisions he'll probably eventually have to make will build up his character and make him more likable. and he'll probably get some bad ass kill scenes as well

if next week's episode is anything like the preview then we'll be back to zombie survival mode which will undoubtedly be enjoyable. throw in some good special effects, cinematography, sets, zombie makeup, creepiness and badass kill scenes and I'll be set. it doesn't take much for me to enjoy zombie apocalypse stuff

One did indeed say texting. Which I would miss, but not nearly as much as the whole "safety and not having to worry about getting eaten" thing. Yeesh.

A lot of these post-apocalyptic survival questions (rural vs. suburban vs. city for supplies, etc.) are what I wish the show were going to deal with. The comic has done a shitty job of it, I was/am hoping the longer form of a TV series might do better.

BTW the zombie lynch mob in this episode was kinda upsetting? Like just for a second you're like "aw, poor zombie just wanna eat a little venison; why you gotta beat him like that?"

Also, it took them an awful long time to dispatch the zombie. So maybe they were enjoying it?
