drunksleep better than no sleep imo but I'm not going to start drinking at 2.30a.m. with work in 6 hours.

even if it's from other govts? try reading, i dunno, ohio state senate proceedings or something. it's REALLY boring.

i've been trying boring reading instead of drinking when i wake up in the middle of the night. probably had the most success with hegel so far

other govts are now running us, its partly why i'm awake tbh.

yeah get 2 work you, make my money speak.
drunk sleep is my only good sleep, pretty much. current state: not drunk. think i'll go watch futurama dvd commentaries till the resistance can hold out no longer.

I can't stay asleep if I drink, and feel even more rubbish in the morning than otherwise.
Lately my go-to sleep aid is a bedtime story on my ipod (In Our Time is also good, when available), and if I'm really jumpy a sudoku to occupy my hands and eyes.
It's very clear to me at the moment what my anxiety triggers are, and the extent to which they worsen my insomnia, which is hueg. Will never sleep well, but looking forward to being able to build yoga / meditation back into life so I can get the twitching back under control.

fwiw dudes if u drunksleep too often yr basically blunting yr body's ability to ramp down the nervous system
this is why u give benzos to alcoholics in withdrawal---remove the etoh and all of a sudden they've got an excess (of sorts) of stimulatory neurotransmitters, and they can't sleep (which is at the more benign end of things)

for the last week i have been waking up after like four hours, unable to get back to sleep. this is v. v. out of character for me and sux.

thanks for the science gbx. some questions:
could you define the following terms in more detail:
too often -- how often is too often iyo? daily? weekly? ramp down the nervous system -- what does this mean in a non-dependent person? etoh -- this is alcohol units? (i googled)

i've never taken sleeping pills, and i don't think i'd consider it now. but i've been sleeping only 3 -- 4 continuous hours a night for the past few days, and it's wearing me out.
― Daniel, Esq., Wednesday, 12 January 2011 06:51 (thirteen years ago) link
have gone to this really strange sleep pattern of like 4 hours a night no matter how tired i am, which usually means napz and/or tiredness during the day
wow xp!
― nakhchivan, Wednesday, 12 January 2011 06:52 (thirteen years ago) link
I think my brain hates me. Sometimes my thoughts will be dull as dishwater throughout the day when I need to be *creative* for work and such & then my imagination will go into hyperspeed when I'm trying to chill 4 sleepytime.
― big ed girlie (Pillbox), Wednesday, 12 January 2011 06:58 (thirteen years ago) link
My solution for this (aside from lol booze) used to be to work at night, but sleeping all day just makes me feel like a deadbeat.

Going to bed at 11, waking up at one, going back to sleep at four-ish, alarm goes off at half six.
Books, headphone music and jam & bread are the coping tactics now. Have given up on just lying there thinking 'I'm not asleep' and maybe getting angry.

i'm only up cuz i'm in the middle of 4 days off so wheee why not. i'm usually out by 9pm so this is like hour infinity to me right now. very @_@

the only really useful trick i learned during my year or so of severe insomnia:
get into bed! don't do anything! get as comfy as you can, close your eyes and think about pleasant, enjoyable things. just try to relax. even if you don't actually sleep, just getting a few hours of total relaxation is good and will leave you feeling better in the morning.
― just1n3, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 05:18 (thirteen years ago) link
wait do they glowxxp
― arby's, Tuesday, 12 April 2011 05:19 (thirteen years ago) link
justine is right btw.
tho sometimes fifteen minutes of fresh air to clear thoughts and ~then~ justine's advice is good.
sometimes this is good! but more often than not i get antsy/uncomfortable
xps

dunno if they glow, they must be powerful good because this kid was hell bent on eating some sqworms
so far i tried hypnotic music, sleeping pills, and counting sheep. also tried relaxation above described when those failed but now i am more agitated about the fact that i am not asleep than i am about the presentation.

work dreams are the worst!! it's like not sleeping at all.
the worst is when you dream a very plausible scenario of how your day really could go wrong. AND THEN IT DOES.
