i would love it if you'd watch the fourth episode and came back to us with your thoughts

Princess TamTam, Monday, 6 December 2010 22:27 (thirteen years ago) link

i can make that happen

shirley summistake (s1ocki), Monday, 6 December 2010 22:28 (thirteen years ago) link

SPOILER

so did the doctor tell andrew lincoln that his kid is carrying?

Either that, or that everyone already has the disease whether they've been bit or not

buildings with goats on the roof (James Morrison), Monday, 6 December 2010 22:30 (thirteen years ago) link

Hmm, I can't remember if that was a plot point in the comics or not. Seem to think it was? Or maybe I'm thinking of something else, from World War Z. Regardless, in these sorts of stories everyone has to have the disease, bit or not, because otherwise how would the dead come back to life in the first place, without a first-bite, as it were?

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 6 December 2010 22:43 (thirteen years ago) link

They kind of hit you over the head with the CDC doctor's name: Edwin Jenner. Just a few letters difference to throw you off though. But for this show, that's subtlety.

righteousmaelstrom, Monday, 6 December 2010 23:03 (thirteen years ago) link

I... liked the finale. Much more than the previous couple of episodes. But maybe I'm just a sucker for Lost-style imminent death in a basement "suspense."

mini-skirt and gogol books (GOTT PUNCH II HAWKWINDZ), Tuesday, 7 December 2010 00:05 (thirteen years ago) link

Haven't watched it yet, but I could have sworn Darabont promised there would be no cliffhanger. So he's a liar-pants?

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 7 December 2010 01:04 (thirteen years ago) link

there's no cliffhanger

Princess TamTam, Tuesday, 7 December 2010 01:09 (thirteen years ago) link

Wow that was a bad cgi explosion. I enjoyed the finale though. This season has been perfectly adequate for my needs; I expected it to be a watchable and occasionally exciting programme about zombies, and it is.

A brownish area with points (chap), Tuesday, 7 December 2010 01:46 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah the awful CGI was really terrible-looking and depressing, considering how great the actual zombies looked on this show

some dude, Tuesday, 7 December 2010 01:54 (thirteen years ago) link

Man, that last episode was a real stinker, right down to the talking computer and the, um, grenade deus ex machina. "Oh, by the way, I've been carrying a grenade in my pocket - do you think that might help?"

I've actually hated the CGI throughout this thing - the zombie make-up has been great, but pretty much all the kills have been all "Resident Evil (the game) level graphics. My only hope for this show is that these first few eps were apparently rushed, and with new writers and more time things can only get better.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 7 December 2010 03:46 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah the firing writers thing is totally encouraging, if they get someone more talented to take this ball and run with it now that they've got a hit they might really have something

some dude, Tuesday, 7 December 2010 03:51 (thirteen years ago) link

Here is a grenade. Perhaps you, the master of grenading, can use it to unlock that window.

strongly recommend. unless you're a bitch (mayor jingleberries), Tuesday, 7 December 2010 07:29 (thirteen years ago) link

some shonky physics in the last ep. shouldn't a thermobaric weapon toss everything in its immediate surroundings around a bit ~shrug~

ed smanger (cozen), Tuesday, 7 December 2010 08:57 (thirteen years ago) link

zombies are kinda shonky science /par excellence/ tho so I'm not grousing

I don't think mad doctor told Rick they were all infected. Or maybe he did and at the start of the 2nd season they all turn into zombies and the show is about them looking for braiiiiins. Would make the show a whole lot better because I don't see how they could write bad dialogues for zombies. I guess he probably told Rick that his wife is pregnant though.
Don't think I'll watch s02 because this show has become really awful really fast.

Jibe, Tuesday, 7 December 2010 11:03 (thirteen years ago) link

maybe he told rick that all of rick's companions are lame shitheads and who gives a fuck /slocki

don't take the red herring bait; the "whisper whisper whisper" was the lamest par of that ep and dug deep into LOST bullshit
i'm in for one more season because new writers new writers new writers new writers
man, when they showed ads for breaking bad i remembered how much i missed that show.

lol I gave up on walking dead and started watching breaking bad

didnt darabont fire the writers cuz he was doing all the writing himself?

shirley summistake (s1ocki), Tuesday, 7 December 2010 14:38 (thirteen years ago) link

Don't think he said just what was up, but the implication was he was going to rely on freelancers for the time being. Which could be the way to go - contract out to genre nerds who know what's up a la "Star Trek."" Regardless, when your show is being run/produced by one of Hollywood's top-paid rewrite guys, expect him to have a hand in every script.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 7 December 2010 14:47 (thirteen years ago) link

if they go all "what zombie adventure will the crew run into today" with a thruline of longer plot threads, a'la xfiles, this show could take off.
the real important equation is "more zombies in episode = more enjoyment I get from said episode"

Lou Ferrigno (Hulken) (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 7 December 2010 14:53 (thirteen years ago) link

totes. more actual suspenseful shit, less boring people hanging out in tents, imo

shirley summistake (s1ocki), Tuesday, 7 December 2010 14:59 (thirteen years ago) link

and FUCK human on human violence, this is a goddamn zombie show.

Lou Ferrigno (Hulken) (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 7 December 2010 15:01 (thirteen years ago) link

the sequence where dude ran away from military executing patients in the hall into the arms of the undead underlined my distaste for this "WHO IS TRULY THE MONSTER DO U C" bullshit

Lou Ferrigno (Hulken) (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 7 December 2010 15:02 (thirteen years ago) link

My first thought was that the doctor saw the attempted rape over one of the security cameras.

ergonomically chromium plated fish slice (La Lechera), Tuesday, 7 December 2010 18:13 (thirteen years ago) link

Haha, that was such an awful scene. The acting is uniformly terrible in this, but as long as they keep up the gore and some of the great shots (some of the framing is incredible) I'll probably keep watching.

one pretty obvious guy in the obvious (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Tuesday, 7 December 2010 18:16 (thirteen years ago) link

I still can't believe they blew their final episode budget on a lame underground compound and not on, you know, zombie hordes.

idk i think the survivalism aspect is more interesting than the zombies

here's how every zombie encounter will go down: there's a horde of zombies, a bunch of them will get shot/chopped in the head with an axe, someone maybe gets overwhelmed and eaten and it's real sad ;_;, repeat

Princess TamTam, Tuesday, 7 December 2010 18:47 (thirteen years ago) link

o come on tamtam, u know the comic better than that

Lou Ferrigno (Hulken) (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 7 December 2010 20:05 (thirteen years ago) link

I thought they were out of fuel when they got to the CDC, which was why they couldn't get back in the car and go to Fort Benning when it looked like the CDC was empty. But how is this problem solved at the end of the episode? It's clear Jenner didn't have surplus gasoline. Also, once they were in Atlanta and the CDC looked shut, why wouldn't they go back to the nursing home and take shelter there?

Guayaquil (eephus!), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 15:26 (thirteen years ago) link

Probably the same reason why they had to stop the RV when the hose burst, but yet it was suddenly not an issue once they dumped the guy that was bit against the tree and left him to die.

one pretty obvious guy in the obvious (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 15:48 (thirteen years ago) link

scientist guy had a long fucking time to figure out how to fix the auto-destruct in that fucking joint too. maybe keeping some of the lights off in that cavernous place, not playing classical music while you're running experiments and not taking hot showers every night woulda been a good call to conserve energy? Pretty sure that google voice of god thing was a pretty big power suck to leave on all the time too.

Lou Ferrigno (Hulken) (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 16:19 (thirteen years ago) link

They did a facile "oh, there's a service station just down the road, I'll go get a hose while you dump the dude against the tree" bit, but the lack of fuel is a total whoops -- unless S2 picks up 20 minutes later with everybody walking down the road with gas cans.

pixel farmer, Wednesday, 8 December 2010 16:31 (thirteen years ago) link

renewable energy my friends. they used zombies as fuel...

Indian Food 2 Electric Vindaloo (chrisv2010), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 17:53 (thirteen years ago) link

Has there ever been a zombie story set hundreds of years after the beginning of the plague, with the living and the dead having co-existed for generations? If not, my idea.

A brownish area with points (chap), Wednesday, 8 December 2010 17:56 (thirteen years ago) link

what would be awesome is if over time in 'the walking dead', the zombies and the humans are forced into some kind of, shall we say, uneasy alliance. maybe eventually there would be zombie/human love stories in the mix? maybe this alliance would be on the run from more "evil" zombies, and the humans and the good zombies have to find a new home. there should also be one character who has visions of the future depicted in bad art.

omar little, Wednesday, 8 December 2010 17:59 (thirteen years ago) link

Odds of ever seeing those nursing home gangsters we've grown to love ever again? None.

They didn't go to the fort because it was 150 miles away and getting dark. Or something. "CDC" lab was living large, given the limited resources. That lame throwaway line about fossil fuels was no excuse for lack of solar power.

How long would power remain on with no one manning the stations, btw? What happens to nuclear?

Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 8 December 2010 18:02 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah and shane would take a zombie doggystyle in a trash bin.
