downloaded Sonic Adventure, 'cause I thought it would be like a basic Sonic game (really don't know my Sega history, other than the awesome single disc collection) - thought it would save me popping in the Sega disc if I wanted to play Sonic - fired it up and gahh - what a piece of crap - not fun at all - money wasted... Metal Slug was worth every penny, though.

I have the fondest memories of Sonic Adventure from 10 years ago. Not sure why. You routinely fall through gaps in the scenery and die, you can't control the fast characters even in very spacious landscapes, what you're supposed to be doing is not clear, etc etc. If this indeed was the quality of the first round of Dreamcast games, it's no wonder the thing crashed and burned so quickly.

So it's still worth $7 for the trip down memory lane (and to avoid the hassle of finding and unpacking the DC) but wow. Think twice. If you've never played it before and are not extremely curious, stay away.

The breads are OK but the the crumpet freaks me out (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 23 December 2010 20:00 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah, it wasn't that great even back then tbh. it should be lumped with the other more forgettable DC launch titles like Dino Crisis

cancelling lovefilm, selection of available films is just shit. even when you find one on the website available to 'watch online' half the time it turns out to be pay-per-view and not streamable on ps3.

yeah I'm doing that, I'd rather spend £6 a month renting a film from the PSN store and it being a film I want to watch right now and not some random pick off a list.

if you could spend your credits on online films but the list of watch online films is sub par.

I got one of these. Do i want resonance of fate or valkyria chronicles?

I have demons souls. I don't know what else to get.

Life is hard.

toastmodernist, Saturday, 1 January 2011 00:46 (thirteen years ago) link

If you don't have a 360 there are lots of good cross platform titles.

I Am Kurious Assange (polyphonic), Saturday, 1 January 2011 01:09 (thirteen years ago) link

Oh, and Uncharted 2, obviously.

I Am Kurious Assange (polyphonic), Saturday, 1 January 2011 01:09 (thirteen years ago) link

um, you still can't pirate games for it

not yet, but it's coming and it's coming soon. personally since I actually have a job and GameFly I'm way more excited by the prospect of installing support for new video codecs/region-unlocking on DVDs/ripping games to the HD rather than play from the disc.

Demons souls is so so good but insanely hard. I'm at the point where i keep running away back to the nexus every time i get a decent amount of souls because the threat of dying is completely overwhelming. Getting a bit boring because i'm killing the same fifteen skeletons over and over and running away but can't bring myself to venture forward. Such a wonderful opressive atomsphere.

So excited abt god of war 3 and uncharted 2 but the postal service is an absolute disgrace, shoulda had them days ago.

Is there any heavy rain love on ilg? Really loved fahrenheit or at least the first half hour of it and i'm assuming heavy rain is the same but better?

toastmodernist, Wednesday, 5 January 2011 11:33 (thirteen years ago) link

thre's a thread for it - i think the consensus (which i share) is that it's a flawed but very entertaining game. i think it's totally worth playing - for the mood, for the unique controls, for the "wtf will happen next" feeling.. i got hooked on it, in that "just one more episode" wire type of way

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 5 January 2011 12:00 (thirteen years ago) link

it's fun having a new console that is also a game system.

toastmodernist, Wednesday, 5 January 2011 12:05 (thirteen years ago) link

xmb dashboard is one of the ugliest things i've ever had to navigate through though.

toastmodernist, Wednesday, 5 January 2011 12:06 (thirteen years ago) link

I just got a new TV that has basically the same interface as the PS3 dashboard. But slower. :(

CraigG, Wednesday, 5 January 2011 12:29 (thirteen years ago) link

the fact that the quit graphic has to "load" is pretty ridiculous

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Wednesday, 5 January 2011 12:33 (thirteen years ago) link

custom firmwares surfacing already, jeez those guys are quick. also Heavy Rain is terrible.

zappi, Wednesday, 5 January 2011 14:18 (thirteen years ago) link

a list of PS3 games which can be played with a fightstick (not including actual fighting games):

- Pac-Man CE DX
- Scott Pilgrim vs. the World
- NBA Jam
- Tetris

to be continued

Playstation 3 is currently a game system with a lot of good looking exclusives for 2011

can't believe Hyperdimension Neptunia is getting localised, looks the epitome of otaku bullshit

zappi, Monday, 10 January 2011 18:58 (thirteen years ago) link

"um, you still can't pirate games for it"

what was that weird USB thing that they ported to TI calculators, and now people are hooking up their TI calculators to PS3s during boot for?

haha seriously i was like o_O at that link when the 1st two games were obscure even by the genre's standards nis imports

then i got SOCOM 4 and stopped caring again

The Playstation 3 is currently a game system which now runs a gang of emulators:

http://www.thesixthaxis.com/2011/01/10/homebrew-and-emulators-appear-on-ps3-what-will-sony-do/

not dicking around w/ haXoring until there's a way to automatically disable the game list reporting (which is apparently how Sony gonna gitcha), but if this means I can play MAME on my TV with my joystick I am alllllllll for it

FART MAGNET STUDIOS IS SCREWING US AGAIN!!!1!1!!!1!! (jamescobo), Monday, 10 January 2011 19:31 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah totally. If I can get it running MAME maybe I'll actually have a reason to turn the thing on now and again. Cos that list of exclusives definitely isn't going to do the job.

Looking forward to XBMC for PS3 actually. And it'll be nice if somebody hacks PS2 compatibility back into it.

JimD, Tuesday, 11 January 2011 09:42 (thirteen years ago) link

- Last Guardian
- SoC and Ico HD
- Uncharted 3
- Beyond Good and Evil HD

Those are 4/5 games right there that I'm going to buy sight unseen when they come out

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 11 January 2011 10:30 (thirteen years ago) link

I never liked BG&E very much but it's good to see it finally cop some recognition to meet its reputation. Never played SoC and only spent 10 mins with Ico so particularly pumped for those.

Suppositori Spelling (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 11 January 2011 10:34 (thirteen years ago) link

i've never played the uncharted games. played the demo of the first one once and just kept on getting killed (n.b. i am not a noob), lots of my friends swear by them though, so maybe i should give them a shot.

À la recherche du temps Pardew (jim in glasgow), Tuesday, 11 January 2011 10:38 (thirteen years ago) link

I had the exact same experience w/the first one, hated it, but the second one is fucking magnificent

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 11 January 2011 12:22 (thirteen years ago) link

cool, will get a loan off one of my friends of the second one.

À la recherche du temps Pardew (jim in glasgow), Tuesday, 11 January 2011 12:23 (thirteen years ago) link

Ok yeah, I'll get the Ico pack. But remakes don't count. And the rest of the list still looks meh to me.

Thought Uncharted 2 was hugely overrated too (didn't try the first). I guess if you liked the original Tomb Raider games it might appeal, but it's really only a flashy update of that same old idea.

JimD, Tuesday, 11 January 2011 12:40 (thirteen years ago) link

i adored the first Tomb Raider and would play all this games

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 11 January 2011 12:41 (thirteen years ago) link

journey look interestin. maybe i should try flower or flow first though.

Release date: Holiday 2011

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 11 January 2011 12:44 (thirteen years ago) link

tomb raider 2 was amazing. used to play it and listen to dj shadow. nostalgia :'(

À la recherche du temps Pardew (jim in glasgow), Tuesday, 11 January 2011 12:44 (thirteen years ago) link

xp that's what i thought. i think.

yeah i could dig some tomb raider type action.

nanoflymo (ledge), Tuesday, 11 January 2011 12:44 (thirteen years ago) link

actually yeah Tomb Raider 2 was pretty good. i didn't like the humans interrupting my private time with Lara but all the Venice stuff was amazing

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 11 January 2011 12:47 (thirteen years ago) link

Oh you guys, you're reminding me why I preferred the N64 to the PSX.

JimD, Tuesday, 11 January 2011 12:49 (thirteen years ago) link

oh jim you're reminding me that you prefer f-zero to wipeout.

nanoflymo (ledge), Tuesday, 11 January 2011 12:50 (thirteen years ago) link

Hoping inFamous 2 will be this year's dark horse as the first game was awesome and criminally ignored

groovypanda, Tuesday, 11 January 2011 16:16 (thirteen years ago) link

"holiday" means christmas out here

predeep natsvitika (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 11 January 2011 16:30 (thirteen years ago) link

the 2011 title most prominently appearing on my DO WANT list is probably Motorstorm: Apocalypse

FART MAGNET STUDIOS IS SCREWING US AGAIN!!!1!1!!!1!! (jamescobo), Tuesday, 11 January 2011 17:08 (thirteen years ago) link

Journey looks pretty amazing

progressive cuts (Tracer Hand), Tuesday, 11 January 2011 17:13 (thirteen years ago) link

Journey, Last Guardian and Ico/Colossus are basically my most wanted games for this year.

predeep natsvitika (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 11 January 2011 17:32 (thirteen years ago) link

My PS3 is basically my blu-ray player at this point. I barely ever use it for games.

But that's fine, because I love blu-ray.

polyphonic, Tuesday, 11 January 2011 17:46 (thirteen years ago) link

do we have an f-zero Vs. wipeout poll

WIPEOUT

Indolence Mission (DJP), Tuesday, 11 January 2011 17:58 (thirteen years ago) link

it's great for netflix; far better interface and speedier loading than the 360

predeep natsvitika (forksclovetofu), Tuesday, 11 January 2011 18:05 (thirteen years ago) link

Yeah, but it's important to me that my xbox friends know I'm watching 3 Ninjas: High Noon at Mega Mountain.
