any more than this & it will become a chore instead of fun & he'll put off listening or will only give cursory listens on youtube or something (idk thats what id do anyway)
lex we're at 25 already -- j0rdan dont listen to that one lol
― *gets the power* (deej), Thursday, 20 January 2011 22:43 (thirteen years ago) link
maybe when we start again we can focus on something other than R&B too tbh

j/k
i look fwd to reading reactions, also i would like to be in the albums rotation but suppose i'd better get in line behind the goons
― ilxor, Thursday, 20 January 2011 22:47 (thirteen years ago) link
yeah i was gonna put some female-fronted alt stuff in, knowing that j0rdan loves yyys/be your own pet. only got round to pj harvey tho.
― lex diamonds (lex pretend), Thursday, 20 January 2011 22:47 (thirteen years ago) link
make it a theme for each 25? next 25 could be synth pop or jazz or indie or some other genre?
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 20 January 2011 22:48 (thirteen years ago) link
that's a great idea
― The Brainwasher, Thursday, 20 January 2011 22:48 (thirteen years ago) link
I was just thinking that. Maybe it will best to have Jordan pick a genre he knows nothing about and then recommend 5-10 songs. I thought it was r&b since this originated from a r&b/hip hop thread.
― Just Saw Bobby Brown perform Every Little Step. Life is Great! (lilsoulbrother), Thursday, 20 January 2011 22:49 (thirteen years ago) link
ok jordan, 2500 words by tomorrow so we can start again
― *gets the power* (deej), Thursday, 20 January 2011 22:49 (thirteen years ago) link
and let jordan choose the genre he feels in the mood for checking out. I dont think you want skot posting 25 grindcore tracks!
― Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 20 January 2011 22:50 (thirteen years ago) link
going forward we should prob limit the tracks to 20 & the contributions to a couple per person? idk maybe that makes it less fun & too restrictive
― *gets the power* (deej), Thursday, 20 January 2011 22:51 (thirteen years ago) link
kind of hilarious how j0rdan is off doing whatever while we're trying to corral this budding monster

Sup y'all
Ill start reviewing these later tonight at some point -- I'm going off to dinner in a few
I don't really wanna specify a genre or w/e but you guys can follow each other's lead -- that said I mostly wanna keep this in r&b/soul/pop/disco w/e -- I have enough friends irl trying to get me to listen to the stones
I'm not ironclad on this one album every two weeks thing -- I'd say that's a deadline for myself but it wouldn't be like we'd have to wait 9 days to post a new album or w/e
― hard as a markers (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 20 January 2011 23:17 (thirteen years ago) link
i might just be saying that bc i dont really like pj harvey and she seems like someone your sisters gay friend from university would be really into or smthng
― plax (ico), Thursday, 20 January 2011 23:19 (thirteen years ago) link
xp admittedly, the "pj harvey" mention wasn't particularly interesting. but i'd only then read the first 100 posts or so of the thread and i just liked that it was going so well.

that's part of what i liked about reading this thread. so wide-ranging.

i heard the supremes on the radio this morning and was just thinking about how when you listen to Old Music, a lot of the time it feels very dutiful, even when you can appreciate it (actually that might feel even more awkward than just disliking it), but every so often is like an artist or a band's entire deal hits you completely at once and it feels a bit overwhelmingly joyful (this happened with me and the supremes about a decade ago i guess)
― lex pretend, Thursday, 16 April 2015 07:44 (nine years ago) link
when you listen to Old Music, a lot of the time it feels very dutiful,
I sort of feel this about all music where i know what it is before i actually hear it. Almost like i have already heard it with someone else's ears and am unable to hear it for itself. Hearing the name not the sound
― saer, Thursday, 16 April 2015 07:48 (nine years ago) link
a lot of the time it feels very dutiful
I'd probably say "sometimes" instead of "a lot of the time," because my day to day playlists ping pong between the last six decades pretty freely. But yeah, if I'm sitting down to listen to some long-form prog or psych something or other, it feels like fucking work.

totally but it's worth the effort. i am STILL going methodically (and at least three times per song) through this ILX/critbait best of 2014 playlist, alphabetically by artisthttp://open.spotify.com/user/forksclovetofu/playlist/4j7EwRMpTBavNAWRJZuki2i'm about halfway through "i"
