25. en vogue - my lovin' (you're never gonna get it)

lex diamonds (lex pretend), Thursday, 20 January 2011 22:42 (thirteen years ago) link

Smokey Robinson is the artist of course. I fucked up the artist-song order

gospodin simmel, Thursday, 20 January 2011 22:43 (thirteen years ago) link

any more than this & it will become a chore instead of fun & he'll put off listening or will only give cursory listens on youtube or something (idk thats what id do anyway)

lex we're at 25 already -- j0rdan dont listen to that one lol

*gets the power* (deej), Thursday, 20 January 2011 22:43 (thirteen years ago) link

maybe when we start again we can focus on something other than R&B too tbh

some dude, Thursday, 20 January 2011 22:46 (thirteen years ago) link

hey wait where's my turn

ilxor, Thursday, 20 January 2011 22:46 (thirteen years ago) link

j/k

i look fwd to reading reactions, also i would like to be in the albums rotation but suppose i'd better get in line behind the goons

ilxor, Thursday, 20 January 2011 22:47 (thirteen years ago) link

yeah i was gonna put some female-fronted alt stuff in, knowing that j0rdan loves yyys/be your own pet. only got round to pj harvey tho.

lex diamonds (lex pretend), Thursday, 20 January 2011 22:47 (thirteen years ago) link

make it a theme for each 25? next 25 could be synth pop or jazz or indie or some other genre?

Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 20 January 2011 22:48 (thirteen years ago) link

that's a great idea

The Brainwasher, Thursday, 20 January 2011 22:48 (thirteen years ago) link

I was just thinking that. Maybe it will best to have Jordan pick a genre he knows nothing about and then recommend 5-10 songs. I thought it was r&b since this originated from a r&b/hip hop thread.

Just Saw Bobby Brown perform Every Little Step. Life is Great! (lilsoulbrother), Thursday, 20 January 2011 22:49 (thirteen years ago) link

ok jordan, 2500 words by tomorrow so we can start again

*gets the power* (deej), Thursday, 20 January 2011 22:49 (thirteen years ago) link

and let jordan choose the genre he feels in the mood for checking out. I dont think you want skot posting 25 grindcore tracks!

Algerian Goalkeeper, Thursday, 20 January 2011 22:50 (thirteen years ago) link

going forward we should prob limit the tracks to 20 & the contributions to a couple per person? idk maybe that makes it less fun & too restrictive

*gets the power* (deej), Thursday, 20 January 2011 22:51 (thirteen years ago) link

kind of hilarious how j0rdan is off doing whatever while we're trying to corral this budding monster

some dude, Thursday, 20 January 2011 22:52 (thirteen years ago) link

Next up: the J0rdan S Boys Club, in which we tell him what guys he'd most like.

Gus Van Sotosyn (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 20 January 2011 22:53 (thirteen years ago) link

― lex diamonds (lex pretend), Thursday, January 20, 2011 10:47 PM (26 minutes ago)

wouldnt like lydia lunch or the slits or smthng make way more sense as a precedent for yyys and like hole maybe for byop

plax (ico), Thursday, 20 January 2011 23:16 (thirteen years ago) link

maybe idk i got bored of yyys after fever to tell and i really only like a few songs by byop in the end

plax (ico), Thursday, 20 January 2011 23:17 (thirteen years ago) link

Sup y'all

Ill start reviewing these later tonight at some point -- I'm going off to dinner in a few

I don't really wanna specify a genre or w/e but you guys can follow each other's lead -- that said I mostly wanna keep this in r&b/soul/pop/disco w/e -- I have enough friends irl trying to get me to listen to the stones

I'm not ironclad on this one album every two weeks thing -- I'd say that's a deadline for myself but it wouldn't be like we'd have to wait 9 days to post a new album or w/e

hard as a markers (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 20 January 2011 23:17 (thirteen years ago) link

i might just be saying that bc i dont really like pj harvey and she seems like someone your sisters gay friend from university would be really into or smthng

plax (ico), Thursday, 20 January 2011 23:19 (thirteen years ago) link

Also based on my sleeping habits and general style of living most of my updates itt will likely be during the hours of like 1-4 am est

hard as a markers (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 20 January 2011 23:27 (thirteen years ago) link

maybe i'll do them in @discographies style -- i've always wanted to be the rock critic of the year

1-6 thomas keller's roast chicken 7-13 roscoe's chicken wings 14-16 chicken fried steak 17-23 chicken mgnuggets 24-25 chicken flavored dog food

hard as a markers (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 20 January 2011 23:34 (thirteen years ago) link

we can also recommend good frozen food.

Gus Van Sotosyn (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 20 January 2011 23:35 (thirteen years ago) link

1. frankie wilson - do i love you (indeed i do)

i love this song! the thing that hits me immediately is how well it's produced, in that way that's very 1960s -- you can make out what every instrument's doing but also how they interact etc -- anyway, great song -- i'm a sucker for jubilant romantic shit like this

hard as a markers (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 20 January 2011 23:39 (thirteen years ago) link

chicken FLAVOURED hotdog?!

flopson, Thursday, 20 January 2011 23:41 (thirteen years ago) link

somebody get a fire extinguisher

flopson, Thursday, 20 January 2011 23:41 (thirteen years ago) link

2. Alexander O'Neal - "Fake"

ha this guy looks v fierce -- honestly i'm not a huge fan of a lot of the sounds of the '80s, i think this has gotten me in trouble on ilx before -- anyway, this song is pretty cool -- bass is nice, altho i think it's still a bit... chintzy on the whole -- that said, i can see easily how stuff i grew up hearing as a kid (i guess boyz II men obv, maybe even like montell jordan) was borne out of a song like this -- not explicitly in the sonics, but just generally speaking

hard as a markers (J0rdan S.), Thursday, 20 January 2011 23:45 (thirteen years ago) link

you're off my list, pal ;)

Gus Van Sotosyn (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Thursday, 20 January 2011 23:47 (thirteen years ago) link

someone needs to throw a Billy Ocean song in there

i love tampon spaceship (San Te), Thursday, 20 January 2011 23:48 (thirteen years ago) link

totally but it's worth the effort. i am STILL going methodically (and at least three times per song) through this ILX/critbait best of 2014 playlist, alphabetically by artist
http://open.spotify.com/user/forksclovetofu/playlist/4j7EwRMpTBavNAWRJZuki2
i'm about halfway through "i"

loved this thread.

self-servingly thinking of starting a Tim F. listening club.

I would happily participate in a Tim F. listening club thread.

tim, how deep is your knowledge of smokey robinson?

Heez, Friday, 17 April 2015 04:49 (nine years ago) link

deej loaf (D-40), Friday, 17 April 2015 05:08 (nine years ago) link

would prob go either hardcore rap or hardcore jazz or ... pulling away from pop without abandoning it entirely music

deej loaf (D-40), Friday, 17 April 2015 05:08 (nine years ago) link

Tim, how do you like Huun Huur Tu?

Premise ridiculous. Who have two potato? (forksclovetofu), Friday, 17 April 2015 05:20 (nine years ago) link

I have not listened (or properly listened) to Smokey Robinson or Huun Huur Tu or most of Brad's earnestly introduced emo.

Imma start a thread.

Tim F, Friday, 17 April 2015 10:37 (nine years ago) link
