the sleeve to this single bites a bis sleeve, the one where they're in a crudely drawn rocket ship and their 3 heads are in the windows looking punx0r. anyone concur?

TO ONLY MAKE 7 ALBUMS IN 998 YEARS IS A TAKING THE FUCKING PISS!

Hey, it worked for the Beastie Boys. (viz their "appearance" on Futurama)

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Monday, 20 January 2003 19:47 (twenty-one years ago) link

Each time they made an album, they had to be cryongenically frozen for 100 years to preserve them, so it really does make sense.

I'm reviving this even though I was totally wrong on it about Y3000. Isn't the new album meant to be out today?

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 12:35 (twenty years ago) link

Busted are fucking ace! They're hysterical! I love them!

It just shows the depths of sexism on this board that people are willing to take the Sugababes seriously - on this very thread - for being punk bubblegum, yet Busted are reviled for being bubblegum punk.

Citizen Kate (kate), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 12:44 (twenty years ago) link

Well, they've got my Alice acting like a teenager, rushing the TV and doing drum rolls on the sofa when they're on. Alice man, yer only three....

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 12:55 (twenty years ago) link

?? Where's the Sugababes bit Kate?

We were talking about Busted in the pub and decided that pop fans who hate Busted need to be thrown out of the Poppist International.

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 12:58 (twenty years ago) link

Busted rock!

chris (chris), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 13:05 (twenty years ago) link

A good thing about Busted and Sugababes is that they're prolific - an album a year-ish is cool. Just like the good old days.

Dr. C (Dr. C), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 13:08 (twenty years ago) link

It's Lynskey's "they are the wandering soul poets of generation ringtones" line that sums it up for me.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 13:16 (twenty years ago) link

i don't get how Chris can like Busted but hate The Darkness (i know they are fairly different)

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 13:30 (twenty years ago) link

Even if they make nothing but records like "Sleeping With The Light On" they will always get a free pass from me now for putting out "Crashed The Wedding" around the time I got married.

But I repeat - has anyone heard the album??

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 13:34 (twenty years ago) link

ALBUM?

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 13:37 (twenty years ago) link

Busted say being called a boy band is 'degrading'

Jerry the Nipper (Jerrynipper), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 13:49 (twenty years ago) link

I don't mind the others but the dopey, lanky streak of piss is dating Hiedi Sugababe. That's enough for me to hate them.

-- DavidM (i...), January 19th, 2003. (DavidM)

Mind you, that's probably due to jealousy, but still.

Citizen Kate (kate), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 13:49 (twenty years ago) link

Indeed. I wish he was dating me too.

Nick Southall (Nick Southall), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 13:58 (twenty years ago) link

I've only heard one Busted song and it was good. That hot-for-teacher teen anthem one. So, classic.

o. nate (onate), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 15:39 (twenty years ago) link

I think of it this way -- Van Halen's horny hot-for-teacher anthem: uncontrolled mania. Busted's: dull VH1-ready bleah.

MTV Unplugged, featuring Busted.

What will they do?

mark grout (mark grout), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 15:52 (twenty years ago) link

The Busted one is not dull! Plus the Busted song actually sounds like it's being sung by a teenager, which gives it an added pathos.

o. nate (onate), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 15:52 (twenty years ago) link

Plus the Busted song actually sounds like it's being sung by a teenager

It sounds like it's being sung by a ProTools program (especially on the chorus, obv.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 15:53 (twenty years ago) link

It is actually being sung by a teenager o.nate!

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 15:54 (twenty years ago) link

I'm not saying that there isn't something to savor in the spectacle of a grizzled David Lee Roth pretending to be a high school student, but there is an added dimension that youth brings to the narrative.

o. nate (onate), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 16:07 (twenty years ago) link

I poop too much.

Labia, Tuesday, 18 November 2003 16:09 (twenty years ago) link

FOR THE LAST FUCKING TIME PRO-TOOLS DOES NOT EQUAL PROCESSING!

It's like saying when you hear Duane Eddy's guitar "Oh thats all 2" tape". If anything causes that effect its Antares Autotune.

Jesus Christ it's like talking to art critics who don't know what a brush is.

Lynskey (Lynskey), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 16:11 (twenty years ago) link

Wowzer! (But note taken to heart, fret not. It sounds like it's being sung by Antares Autotone then!)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 16:14 (twenty years ago) link

That's better.

Lynskey (Lynskey), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 16:20 (twenty years ago) link

two of their vids have spanking in. at least.

enrique (Enrique), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 16:34 (twenty years ago) link

Dude, one of their videos has three hott teenage boys abandonning underage anorexic chixors dressed like Britney Spears to go chasing a plump middle aged woman through a field of flowers. How could I not love this?

Citizen Kate (kate), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 16:35 (twenty years ago) link

yeh but every subsequent video involved them pining over underage anorexic thickory chixors innit

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 18 November 2003 16:42 (twenty years ago) link

one: Miss Mackenzie is not middle aged - she is in fact 33

2: she ain't plump at all, she's lovely

and Busted v Darkness = pop v pomp - pop wins every time, especially when the pomp is done so awfully (I hate Queen too)

busted rule!! i saw them on tour n they put on a gr8 live show!! they were original because they are a boyband who play their own instruments n write their own songs but now mcfly are here so busted arent 1 of a kind nemore dammit!!! matt willis (the bass player) is well sexy

ash, Sunday, 28 March 2004 16:23 (twenty years ago) link

i've noticed that young girls ALWAYS finish their reasonably argued case for a much-maligned boyband by throwing in that comment that one of them is 'well sexy' or similar. it happens on things like Big Brother as well (the SMS message on screen ticket-tape sorta thing) on TV. it's interesting* that it's always presented as the afterthought, the less important point - or the conclusion that has more gravitas than anthing else outlined beforehand...

*not really i guess

stevem (blueski), Sunday, 28 March 2004 17:24 (twenty years ago) link

Did I mention that James is hott?

;-)

Super-Kate (kate), Sunday, 28 March 2004 17:57 (twenty years ago) link

Actually, this thread reminded me about my whole rant about that "protools" logic upthread being TOTALLY WRONG, but that's probably for another thread...

Yes, "ProTools" does not equal processing, but ProTools ENABLES processing and cutting and pasting and other digital manipulation on a scale that no other format before it ever did... it's like saying PHOTOSHOP DOES NOT EQUAL PICTURE-FIDDLING!!! but when you a giant cat shooting laser beams at Gareth's head floating over LA, do you say "wow, digital picture manipulation" or do you say DUDE! PHOTOSHOP!!!

No, you wouldn't say "Dude, it's all two inch tape" any more than you'd look at a photograph and say "dude, it's just a Nikon single lense reflex" but when you see the musical equivalent of photoshopping - i.e. beatmatching and step delay and autotune and cutting and pasting of licks and sequencing etc. etc. etc. it is PERFECTLY JUSTIFIED to say "dude, it's all ProTooled".

Super-Kate (kate), Monday, 29 March 2004 09:08 (twenty years ago) link

Hold on are you saying that giant cat was some kind of fake?

Tico Tico (Tico Tico), Monday, 29 March 2004 09:20 (twenty years ago) link

OK, I know that Gareth actually *can* make laser beams shoot out of his eyes, but no, Virginia, there is no Santa Claus!

Super-Kate (kate), Monday, 29 March 2004 09:26 (twenty years ago) link

I've gone off them now. Little scroats.

Lynskey (Lynskey), Monday, 29 March 2004 11:30 (twenty years ago) link

Don't care. Address my "Pro-Tools" issues already. Humph!

Super-Kate (kate), Monday, 29 March 2004 11:32 (twenty years ago) link

HOLY SHIT!!!

He's turned into Little Jay Ferguson from Sloan! Parka and everything! No wonder he hath won my heart!

Super-Kate (kate), Monday, 29 March 2004 11:43 (twenty years ago) link

Mathematically ProTools does not equal processing. It's like saying a match equals arson. While your point does have some merit, I regret to inform you that I am now existing in a world of numbers and may only be contacted through my solicitor, who is both lost in the Amazon basin and a figment of my imagination. Good luck.

I am kind of scared to come to London now because my brothers wife kept telling me last time I saw her that I look like........a certain member of Busted, eep.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 2 April 2004 09:45 (twenty years ago) link

Oh, boo-hoo, Ronan, then you and Stevem can go down the pub and commiserate about how awful and demeaning and terrible it is to be perved on. Oh god, the objectification, etc. blah blah blah...

Super-Kate (kate), Friday, 2 April 2004 10:02 (twenty years ago) link
