y'know i've def got my money's worth from ps+. some shit games, some great ones; it's a subscription service for content. I like it.

Playstation Plus is currently a gaming service which offers cloud storage! I finally have a reason to sign up for this retarded bullshit.

Is this really that useful? I can imagine maybe making use of savegames in the cloud if I had a living room PS3 and a bedroom PS3, but that's never going to happen (multiple 360s are more likely though I guess, if MS copy this). Beyond that, what would people use it for?

I got a YLOD last month. Sony wanted $180+ for repairs. So I bought a new one and sold the broken one on ebay for $100. What sucks is that it's next to impossible to eject a disc from a broken PS3, so I had to sell Final Fantasy XIII with it. no great loss.

Ah, so I can pay Sony an annual fee to insure myself against their hardware failing on me, great!

ps+ has really really really been worth it for me.
several games i wouldn't otherwise have played. various bells and whistles. The autodownload (though it should come standard) takes care of A LOT of downtime.

so I've had this service for less than 10 hours and I've already got 2 gripes with the cloud storage:
1. 150MB storage wtF Sony. I only needed to use 50MB of it right now, but thank god I didn't need to back up my saves from The Show 10 since they're 22MB each and there's like 4 of them. seriously, would it have killed them to offer a gig?
2. having to manually sync saves completely defeats the purpose of the cloud. apparently it'll be automated with new titles moving forward and now that I backed up everything I don't have to worry about starting over from scratch, but way to completely miss the point of cloud storage Sony!

aside from that, though, it turns out this is a quality offering; I love dynamic themes but refuse to pay for them so I'm probably already halfway to recouping the cost already. also snagged a few games my share group wasn't interested in. looking forward to trying the 1-hour demos sometime too, although after the eternity it took me to DL ME2 I may give in and connect a cat5.

It gets turned on for itvplayer occasionally, but that's all. Mostly this is a result of me having a tv which can already do lovefilm and iplayer and streaming of everything I've got on my media server, but still. I'd have thought PS3 would be some use as, you know, a games machine. I guess I'll be glad I have it when Last Guardian comes along though. And maybe I'll use it for Portal 2 as well.

Surely there is something you'd want to play? Get Uncharted 2 or Bomberman or Wipeout or Flower or somethin'.

Ha, U2 and Wipeout and Flower (and LBP and GOW3 and Nobi Nobi Boy) were the first things I got for it when I picked it up last year, so they're all played already. Well, half played, LBP was the only one that really held my interest.

I might give Heavy Rain a try. And I'm still getting around to playing Demon's Souls.

Heavy Rain can GTF, but Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 owns like crazy, Yakuza 4 comes out next week, and Motorstorm Apocalypse is right around the corner.

also as a heads-up if you hadn't heard already, the PS3 version of Portal 2 comes with a free Steam copy.

I doubt that's going to work- you have to link up your PSN and Steam accounts, iirc.

Gran Turismo 5 is so great. It reminds me of everything I loved about GT3 but improved in exactly the right ways.

I'm trying to remember if the credit card info I used to buy Wipeout 2 years ago is before I changed my card or not. This kind of sucks. And I feel dumb for not having removed the credit card info associated with my PSN account after having made that one purchase.

I've checked my bacnk account like 5 times today but like I said any shenanigans wouldn't happen for awhile if the hax0rs are smart (and if they managed to get CC details in the first place, which hasn't been confirmed yet; though all the other information exposed is damaging enough in itself. I mean, with all that's been exposed, a hacker could probably just apply for a credit card in my name.)

eh, I don't think they have enough to do that; Sony's only confirmed that they got names, physical addresses, phone numbers, mailing addresses, birthday, email addresses/PWs, and possibly password security questions/answers. you definitely need more personal info than that (SS# in particular) to get credit, unless of course you've got the same login/password combo for your bank as for your PSN account (do not do this).

not that I'm excusing Sony in the slightest! I have to go to the bank today and get my card killed then disable all my bill autopayments then set them all up again when the new card comes in thanks to their decision to put the Dr. Nick Riviera of data security in charge of their team. they can also go fuck the sun for waiting a full week to give people a heads-up about their personal data being compromised; surely that's in violation of some consumer-protection laws (Gawker at least had the decency to let me know within a day or two of the weekend when all that shit went down). really hard to imagine that they won't get hit with a massive, massive suit over this.

speaking of Gawker, the one good thing about that whole ordeal was that it led me to pull the trigger on the 1Password suite which is why I'm reasonably copasetic about all this bullshit at the moment. imo it's must-have gear for anyone who uses the internet.

yeah, i was just looking at 1Password myself. i haven't done it yet though cause like, what if i need to register for a site at work and don't have 1Password? and what about all my existing sites? there's probably 100 sites i've bought something from over the last several years.

I guess I should go to the bank and get a new card, too. God damn it. This has also affected me at work (I work in the industry) as I had a bunch of content scheduled to release this week and it all got pushed out, so I am probably going to have a shitload of paperwork to fill out this week.

1password has dropbox sync support for the password list; I just installed both programs on my work computer too and it works great. the iOS 1password apps support it too. I think it's like $40 for the app + the software, which is totally a reasonable amount to pay for peace of mind during a situation like this.

oh and 1password basically adds logins/passwords to its database in realtime as you browse (it's a browser plugin, not just a standalone program) - to add the 100 sites where you've bought stuff from, just visit them, log in normally, and 1password will ask you if you'd like to add it to your list.
