people who get all hung up on meg white not being a technical enough drummer are one step away from demanding slap bass on white blood cells ie not getting it

Good time to quite IMO, they were last decade's thing. I don't think they ever put out an album I loved start to finish but they certainly had more fantastic songs than any 00s rock band I can think of except the Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
Plus, Jack White just had such obvious star quality and vocal presence in a way that very few 00s frontmen could even get close to.

Spacemen 3 would've sounded better with Bernard Purdie behind the kit
White Stripes know they're insufficiently goth for a '10s band. Times have changed.

The band may end, but the bad drummer lines last a lifetime.

Maybe there wasn't as much as I initially thought, just these big ones popped out at my right away (not a pun on Meg's chest, or is it?). Anyway, I guess I shouldn't take is seriously because Bill Magill only pops into threads to be a complete and utter asshole.

yeah lol don't count bill magill posts!
anyway, i don't understand the appeal of this band and never really have but it seemed like a good day to sit on the sidelines given the news of their demise.
― call all destroyer, Thursday, 3 February 2011 02:15 (thirteen years ago) link
They'll be back at it again. Starting at Coachella in 7-8 years. Jack won't be able to resist the assload of cash the promoters will offer him.

Now that they're gone, let's praise the shrewd marketing (maybe their greatest talent?) for hiding the fact that they were an occasionally excellent minor band.
― Rich Lolwry (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, February 2, 2011 3:16 PM (6 hours ago) Bookmark
Alfred OTM, they did some good stuff but it's weird to think of how they were like THE rock band of the last decade.
considering that even Jack said Meg drummed "like a caveman or a little kid" I think it's OK to say she wasn't very good and that it was just part of the band's high concept conceit, whether you enjoyed it or not.
― Bearenthetical Grylls (some dude), Thursday, 3 February 2011 02:39 (thirteen years ago) link
i contend that there is no way in hell they would've blown up like they did if the press didn't have that "are they brother and sister or hunsband and wife?" story to use (remember that?)
― Mr. Snrub, Thursday, 3 February 2011 02:43 (thirteen years ago) link
not sure they had an adequate replacement for #1 rock band of the 2000s-- like, who else would it be? kings of leon? linkin park? arcade fire?
― Damn this thread seems so....different without ilxor (ilxor), Thursday, 3 February 2011 02:45 (thirteen years ago) link
mostly i think it's wack that the #1 rock band of the 2000s (and i wouldn't dispute that they are in most senses) dealt so comfortably with dull blues-isms
― call all destroyer, Thursday, 3 February 2011 02:49 (thirteen years ago) link
he'll do Linda Ronstadt

i never really understood why meg white gets stick, i think she has her own way of playing drums which couldn't fit the music any better, she doesnt show off and her beats are always really catchy
on the other hand, however much i like jack white's guitar playing it is complete wank and he has gradually disappeared up his own tritone arse in the past few years anyway
it was definitely about time to end it though, novelty's worn off
(i'm not usually this negative)
