You can still be a terrible drummer and still be a perfect match for a band, tbh

^^^ this is ridiculous

I'm pretty bummed out by this, even if it was obviously in the makings for some time. But I see the haters seem to be out in full force, so rather than be frustrated I'll just wander off to another thread.

Pleased at this news.

The band may end, but the bad drummer lines last a lifetime.

Meg is a great drummer fuiud

Maybe there wasn't as much as I initially thought, just these big ones popped out at my right away (not a pun on Meg's chest, or is it?). Anyway, I guess I shouldn't take is seriously because Bill Magill only pops into threads to be a complete and utter asshole.

yeah lol don't count bill magill posts!

anyway, i don't understand the appeal of this band and never really have but it seemed like a good day to sit on the sidelines given the news of their demise.

They'll be back at it again. Starting at Coachella in 7-8 years. Jack won't be able to resist the assload of cash the promoters will offer him.

I mean, he'll do Linda Ronstadt, and say, "Okay Meg, let's take the money."

Your cousin, Marvin Cobain (C. Grisso/McCain), Thursday, 3 February 2011 02:32 (thirteen years ago) link

Now that they're gone, let's praise the shrewd marketing (maybe their greatest talent?) for hiding the fact that they were an occasionally excellent minor band.

― Rich Lolwry (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, February 2, 2011 3:16 PM (6 hours ago) Bookmark

Alfred OTM, they did some good stuff but it's weird to think of how they were like THE rock band of the last decade.

considering that even Jack said Meg drummed "like a caveman or a little kid" I think it's OK to say she wasn't very good and that it was just part of the band's high concept conceit, whether you enjoyed it or not.

Bearenthetical Grylls (some dude), Thursday, 3 February 2011 02:39 (thirteen years ago) link

i contend that there is no way in hell they would've blown up like they did if the press didn't have that "are they brother and sister or hunsband and wife?" story to use (remember that?)

Mr. Snrub, Thursday, 3 February 2011 02:43 (thirteen years ago) link

not sure they had an adequate replacement for #1 rock band of the 2000s-- like, who else would it be? kings of leon? linkin park? arcade fire?

Damn this thread seems so....different without ilxor (ilxor), Thursday, 3 February 2011 02:45 (thirteen years ago) link

mostly i think it's wack that the #1 rock band of the 2000s (and i wouldn't dispute that they are in most senses) dealt so comfortably with dull blues-isms

call all destroyer, Thursday, 3 February 2011 02:49 (thirteen years ago) link

he'll do Linda Ronstadt

I would too, fwiw, even if now she looks like someone who has a show on the Food Network.

i never really understood why meg white gets stick, i think she has her own way of playing drums which couldn't fit the music any better, she doesnt show off and her beats are always really catchy

on the other hand, however much i like jack white's guitar playing it is complete wank and he has gradually disappeared up his own tritone arse in the past few years anyway

it was definitely about time to end it though, novelty's worn off

(i'm not usually this negative)

Jack White lies in state in his personally upholstered coffin in Nashville as we speak, and yet you have the nerve to be dismissive of his garage rock.

Yeah, god forbid I go and criticize a band on a music discussion board. You make it like i kicked your dog or something.

Let's recap your post:

"No, fuck you."

Boy, you are so right. How could I miss the cutting and precise criticism in that post? Amazingly insighful and really brought me a whole new understanding of the White Stripes. Ugh. Its one thing to be a willful troll, but to try and play it off as if you were actually adding something of value to the thread is NAGL.

one pretty obvious guy in the obvious (jon /via/ chi 2.0), Thursday, 3 February 2011 15:32 (thirteen years ago) link

You know who doesn't seem to have a big ilm presence but all this White Stripes talk is reminding me of? Thee Headcoats!

Ass Mutha Temple (kkvgz), Thursday, 3 February 2011 15:47 (thirteen years ago) link

Take it easy, jon chi. Not quite sure what your problem is with me. I responded to a post saying "FUIUD" by SMC, who Ive bantered with good naturedly for years (See exh. A-any Sabbath vs. Zeppelin thread). You seem to have gotten butthurt by that. Take it easy, its only a band that broke up. Jack and Meg couldnt give a shit about you, so dont take it so hard.

The Curse of Dennis Stratton (Bill Magill), Thursday, 3 February 2011 16:21 (thirteen years ago) link

Fuck off and die please.

But I guess if I have to clarify that I wasn't being 100% serious when I posted "fuck off and die", then I've got bigger problems with my entire posting style.
