man i wish i had my headphones with me so i could listen at work. haven't seen a bunch of these.

It's fun to watch the reactions he elicits on them but really he's not that impressive. Most of the thing that makes up his act is throwing out random and obscure trivia at the artists and watching them struggle to remember it and perhaps appear impressed at someone investing that much time in looking up stuff about them. The reaction is natural and sometimes entertains the artists simply because they're used to people asking the same questions all the time and it feels refreshing to have someone bring out some rare records and ask you about that first band or bad haircut you had.

otm this is also why the jay-z one in partic didnt impress me so much, since the more obscure trivia about him is pretty well known

also why its kind of goofy that he messed up the different Choppa's

yes, sometimes this ^^ but stuff like a groupie's report on Jack White's style in bed, or a totally batshit, off-the-wall string of connections between Slipknot, Ross Robinson, some bass player, Vanilla Ice and Naughty by Nature, is not really designed to "impress" -- more like "provoke," see how much an artist can take before breaking down on camera (Jack White clearly can hang; Slipknot guy w/ long nose, not so much)

if that's what makes up most of your act, you're doing fine.

i have a lesser opinion on sonic youth after seeing their nardwuar innerview.. they keep trying to break his records!

the mars volta one is pretty fun

the pulling out records thing is a gimmick but i like to hear the rappers esp because you see what big fanboys they are at heart and just to hear them react to something they love instead of typical music journo questions is really cool and kinda touching to me

Crazy serendipity -- was just reading some old Roctobers on the plane and stumbled upon his genius interview with N.E.R.D. where he blows their minds by pulling out a gatefold Carl Sagan / Cosmos LP: "He was to me what A Tribe Called Quest was to Music.
