my PS3 was a gift, so it was actually much cheaper than a cheap PC

y'all know you can build/buy used a cheap pc for cheap and hook it into your network and play movies like that right? probably cheaper than a ps3 or an apple tv!

yeah, I mentioned it as an option in my post. Problem is it really isn't that cheap compared to the other options once you figure in the cost of the operating system (assuming you aren't a pirate or Linux person). I may do it the next time I need to upgrade my PC.

I bought a WD TV Live for ~$90 that sits under my telly and plays everything I throw at it.

TBH, PS3 Media Server is a pretty neat little program, I have it on my laptop and it streams and converts p much anything I throw at it to the telly via the PS3. Only drawback for me was our wifi is fucked (long narrow house, lots of brick walls) so it streamed badly so I gave up.

yeah, similar in my house plus i like to put my computer to sleep when it's not being used.

I will say, playing emulators on the psp is great( depending on the genre). Handheld Chrono Trigger and Link to the Past is great.
