we have crystal light which is a powder, and it makes fake lemonade and other flavors when mixed with water.

yeah we have tons of powdered drink mixes

I spent my last day of high school sitting on the school's front steps and drinking these tiny cups of liquid concentrate of Crystal Light with a guy I was loosely familiar with. I think we entered the Etheric Realm or something. SO much sunshine and aspartame.

They were warm cups of concentrate, too, from being in the sun. It was weird...and....cordial!

I guess the point of that story is Crystal Light also came in a weird, wonderful liquid form.

is it just me or do the containers resemble the Method floor cleaner bottles?

When I was a kid my best friend's mom sold Amway products, and her kitchen had large gallon jugs of drink mix (orange and fruit punch) -- just add water! -- with a pump dispenser on the top. This fascinated me, it was like having a soda fountain in your own home, but now I can't google any information on this product.

The main problem with these raspberry douchepackets is that, being liquid, you can't make them into Lik-M-Aid. The whole fun of drink mix was eating (or snorting) the powder.

When I was in 7th grade a bunch of friends and I started bringing ice tea mix to school in plastic baggies to just eat like that. I guess we were doing it for the sugar high but thinking back now that seems really weird that this was, like, a thing for us.

i think this vile stuff is actually just being marketed to kids via simulated adult situations that real/non-arrested-development adults should know better than to enter into due to being sources of embarrassment. sort of like shows about lol college that are aimed at pre-teens or shows about rich people that no actual rich person is ever meant to watch.

Sounds like Charlie-O. IIRC, the commercials featured buxom women cooing "Charlie" and the promise of door-to-door delivery was a perk of the subscription package you were suckered into.

The bookie my dad roomed with after the divorce had one.

i'm pretty strict about limiting my liquids consumption to water, coffee, and beer only. frivolous beverages are an indulgence reserved for special occasions like christmas (egg nog) and benito juárez's birthday (horchata).

oh and i'll always buy lemonade from child entrepreneurs, that should be the personal policy of any respectable human being

I just went by this mention on Business Week online: Company Overview Charlie O Beverages, Inc. engages in the distribution of in-home soda fountain appliances which prepared carbonated beverages. The company was founded in 1986 and is based in the United States.

Sounds like a similar product and similar door-to-door marketing, but my neighbor had this stuff in the mid 1960s. Pretty sure it was indeed Amway.

It probably was. Funny thing was, I don't think my friend ever had the seltzer water; we used to just mix the flavored syrup with tap water. It was like Kool-Aid.

This stuff had pressurized taps and everything. Apparently they went out of business because you couldn't get the carbonators anywhere.

I was leaving best buy a couple days ago because that was the closest place to buy something I couldn't get anywhere else and there was this fuckin grungy eight year old kid like straight out of a harmony korine movie, standing in the middle of the parking lot with a half empty box of butterfingers trying to sell some to me saying "yo man, yo, yo man, you gotta keep me off drugs and alcohol man, buy some butterfingers man"

maybe it was just much more memorable to me than similar events because the kid was so small like he seemed barely taller than my kneecap

i bought water this morning at the store for the kids and it turns out it was "smart water" and i couldn't give it to them. cuz i don't even know what's in it. i wasn't feeling so smart right about then i'll tell you that much.

I still have to plan a trip to Missouri so I can load up on Water Joe.

I then plan on coming home and making coffee with it.

plus it bugged me that rufus was going to a class party at his teacher's house today and on the list of things to bring to the party it said "bring lots and lots of water!". and we were all like don't they have running water at this teacher's house?

with what teachers make...

maybe they needed lots of extra water for the water-shooting toys.

Scott "tons of water" in that context just sounds more like "hey it'll be hot, they'll be outdoors, make sure to keep 'em hydrated". Tho yeah why not just offer water and juice at the house.

O' Charley's is a chain in the Midwest and South, apparently no relation to Charley O's. Guess the name thing is tolerated as long as they stay on own turf.
