is it an edit? no piano on the original, right?

caek, Saturday, 18 June 2011 19:25 (twelve years ago) link

Yah its something diff maybe a remix.

arachno-misogynist (D-40), Saturday, 18 June 2011 19:35 (twelve years ago) link

It sounds very bouncy.

In some ways it's hard for me to imagine any later set topping when I saw them play last year, outside, with the sun setting, "lunch star" stretching for eight minutes or so...

Tim F, Saturday, 18 June 2011 22:21 (twelve years ago) link

Lol lunch star

arachno-misogynist (D-40), Saturday, 18 June 2011 23:14 (twelve years ago) link

I swear iPhone auto-corrects are devised by some apple mastermind in real time just for lols.

ugh now I want to go to the beach but I think there might still be ice on the lakes

Dan I., Saturday, 11 May 2013 01:38 (ten years ago) link

For balance I am listening to this for the first time before going back to RAM for the second listen.

This may be the most serendipitously timed album release in recent history, if the label is smart enough to promote it properly.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 07:53 (ten years ago) link

Either that or the unluckiest, in that it'll either get swamped and ignored or pick up a swathe of admirers from disappointed Daft Punk fans.

This is great anyway, if kinda route one

Matt DC, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 08:05 (ten years ago) link

album immediately samples "seven wonders" and i think to myself "oh this must be the place"

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Tuesday, 14 May 2013 19:34 (ten years ago) link

Haha that's what it is. That's been bugging me all day.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 19:36 (ten years ago) link

Shy Child kind of got there first by immediately sampling "Everywhere" on their second album </sad fan boy>

Tim F, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 21:11 (ten years ago) link

another sample request: what's the female vocal that starts around 2:00 on dominoes?

caek, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 18:31 (ten years ago) link

Tarzan Boy?

MarkoP, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 18:35 (ten years ago) link

wow well spotted, totally thrown by the pitch shift

caek, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 18:39 (ten years ago) link

this album is fantastic btw

caek, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 18:40 (ten years ago) link

They're playing in my town tonight and I would kinda want to go see them but they're touring with/opening for the Presets who I can't fucking stand.

Dan I., Wednesday, 15 May 2013 18:53 (ten years ago) link

ive had brunch w/ classixx twice but never seen them live

see if you can get brunch with them would be my advice

gr8080, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 18:56 (ten years ago) link

rap steve gadd (D-40), Wednesday, 15 May 2013 18:58 (ten years ago) link

had a go of this the other day, wasn't impressed really but will try again. feel like this has been done to death last few years.

... (LocalGarda), Thursday, 16 May 2013 08:54 (ten years ago) link

it sounds like sally shapiro without the songs.

... (LocalGarda), Thursday, 16 May 2013 08:58 (ten years ago) link

Yeah it kinda feels like they should have released this album three years ago, there's a real 'Magician-remixing-Cut-Copy' vibe to the whole thing. I mean it's an enjoyable record but it feels like a furrow that's been pretty comprehensively ploughed by now.

Keen students of the Daft Punk/Pharrell debate from three weeks ago should note that these are exactly the sort of terrible disco vocalists I was talking about. Who is this Jeppe guy that these dudes all bring in to honk over the top of their records? His unjustified land-grab is worse than Emeli Sande and Hitler, dammit.

Matt DC, Thursday, 16 May 2013 09:24 (ten years ago) link

yeah I like the album but DO YOU LIKE BASS is a bit of a turnoff

Number None, Thursday, 16 May 2013 09:42 (ten years ago) link

I'll give it another go today - I've tried twice and found it pleasant but switched to Random Access Memories or a DJ mix after two/three tracks.

... (LocalGarda), Thursday, 16 May 2013 09:44 (ten years ago) link

i was/am not as deep in this scene, so it's newer to me and i'm enjoying it.

DO YOU LIKE BASS is vile tho.

caek, Thursday, 16 May 2013 10:05 (ten years ago) link

lol the jeppe song has been a popular single for three or four years now

gr8080, Thursday, 16 May 2013 10:12 (ten years ago) link

Yeah it's been knocking about for ages but I'd kind of blotted it out.

Matt DC, Thursday, 16 May 2013 10:13 (ten years ago) link

after living with a while i've downgraded this album to pleasant and enjoyable rather than WOW MUST HYPE but its high points are pretty high. definitely not as boring as random memories

flamenco drop (lex pretend), Thursday, 16 May 2013 10:14 (ten years ago) link

it's nice there's only 2/3 dance albums released a year so we can compare them all

... (LocalGarda), Thursday, 16 May 2013 10:26 (ten years ago) link

god forbid two retro-ish discoey dance albums that are released within a week of each other should be mentioned in the same sentence

flamenco drop (lex pretend), Thursday, 16 May 2013 10:30 (ten years ago) link

They aren't even trying to do the same thing though.

Matt DC, Thursday, 16 May 2013 10:42 (ten years ago) link

neither are most albums, yet people compare works in the same broad field all the time, as i'm sure both you and local garda have done many a time

flamenco drop (lex pretend), Thursday, 16 May 2013 10:44 (ten years ago) link

yeah I like the album but DO YOU LIKE BASS is a bit of a turnoff

Really enjoyed this on first listen last night but yeah, this. Pretty sure I'll skip that one next time around.
