Sort of an ellipsis compared to the exclamation mark of the previous episode. Didn't much care for the very end -- yeah yeah, she's walking into the fire but we all know that she's not going to burn. Want to see more of Arya threatening fat boys/kicking it with Baratheon bastard, or Pycelle doing more backflips.

Random thoughts:
* Lancel? I seriously thought/hoped that Cersei had better taste in relatives.
* Strangely, Dany looked more CG than the dragons at the end.
* Cat was looking srsly hott.
* Actually liked Arya with short hair. Good makeover.
* Ned's makeover, not so much.

WHEN IS ARYA GOING TO START EFFING ESS UP??? /rhetorical

the only scene that fell flat, to me, was the one with Little Finger and Varys. what was the point of that? i was half expecting them to start making out!

Given the rising body count, I half-expected them to try to shiv each other inna Excalibur style!

Loved Samwise getting stooged by the branch.

Little Finger 'n' Varys was maybe my favorite scene, and there were lots of good scenes.

was that an addition, like their first scene together? my memory of the book is slipping

thomp, Tuesday, 21 June 2011 09:37 (twelve years ago) link

Yeah it wasn't in the book

last episode was great

loved the Varys/Littlefinger conversation, loved Sansa remembering she's a Stark, loved the pyre scene, loved Bran and Rickon's interactions, loved Cat in vengeful widow mode, loved Jamie's grinning acceptance of his circumstances, loved how painfully evil Joffrey is, loved Jon's friends in the Watch pulling his head out of his ass and the Night Watch commander totally calling him out for it... basically I thought this was great at managing the fallout of Ned's death while setting up season 2.

otm

loved how painfully evil Joffrey is

I will never be able to think of that kid as anything else. He's so awful and horrible and perfect that I think he'll forever be that way for me. Sort of like how I will always find the dad from Happiness creepy and very very uncomfortable to watch regardless of role.

Amazing that the ratings for the last episode were considerably better than the first. I think something similar happened with True Blood.

lol I was just looking at his filmography, which seems to run the gamut from "tragic orphan" to "obsessive preteen stalker"

he was also in this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shrooms_%28film%29

anyways, joffrey is a little shit. how many friends is he going to have left if he keeps up with the tongue cutting/insanity?!

Pretty typical medieval power consolidation move

so what happens with those barbarians that wanted to take over the Vale?! did they just get told to go to hell after the battle?!
a trivial point i guess, but i'm curious.

I don't remember what happened to them in the books so assume they're still floating around in the background as part of Tywin's army

SPOILER FOR THE HILL TRIBE CURIOUS (BUT NOT SUPER SPOILERY):

Tyrion takes them with him when he leaves Tywin's army. Not saying where they all go.

END SPOILER.

I've taken the plunge into the book--nearly 100 pages in and it's still the first episode.

this show's use of nudity is so cheeky

in no way more ancient than fucking space (latebloomer), Friday, 24 June 2011 06:58 (twelve years ago) link

probably my biggest complaint with it. not that it ruins the show or anything, and sometimes it is purposeful. the general grievance seems to be down to "hey, we're HBO!" but I think it has more to do with "hey fantasy geeks, you like tits right?", which is much worse.

Gukbe, Friday, 24 June 2011 07:00 (twelve years ago) link

i wouldn't call myself a fantasy geek (although i did watch the entire first season of GAME OF THRONES so perhaps this particular elven longship has sailed) but i mean i like tits

nevertheless i almost wished the show had held off on them entirely until the last shot of the season just to up the impact of the whole STRIPPED TO NOTHING AND YET MORE POWERFUL THAN EVER thing but yeah this is an hbo adaptation of a series that was pretty titty to begin with so it's inevitable.

that would have been more "impactful" if she had also been bald the way shes supposed to be. and if she was nursing the dragons too.

i wondered if they'd keep the nursing the dragons, i think that was the first time reading them i went 'errrrrrrr'

They probably though one weird breast feeding scene was enough for the season

what good is hbo if you can't do multiple weird breast feeding scenes

dragons are reptiles (they don't nurse from teats) so i think making it more herpetologically correct was a smart move on the part of hbo.

i was sort of wondering what they would start off eating.

like, i doubt Gerber makes baby dragon food.

maybe she was menstruating?

Are they, though? If we're to think that dragons are flying, fire-breathing dinosaurs, then it's not so clear.

Not exactly "GoT (the book)" spoilers, but what the hey:

*** NOT EXACTLY SPOILER BUT SOME BOOK DETAIL STARTS BELOW

There's a point during the Hand's tournament where the Hound escorts Sansa back to the Red Keep and totally freaks her out (he's the one who tells her about the Mountain melting his face off), but by the second day, she seems to have grown attached to him -- am I reading that right? Am I to presume that their little heart-to-heart the night before is the beginning of a beautiful BFFship?

END WHATEVER THAT NON-SPOILER IS ***

Oh and btw, is there some kind of literary punning with Gregor Clegane and Sansa, i.e. Gregor Samsa?
