Just read the part where Ned dreams about his promise to Lyanna -- what did that entail? Was it just burying her at Winterfell, or was there something more to it?

So you're saying that I didn't forget a detail?
― Matt Groening's Cousin (Leee), Thursday, 30 June 2011 05:51 (twelve years ago) link
no, pretty much everything regarding Lyanna is written very evasively in the books, you probably didn't miss anything

just finished watching season 1 after it taking over my life in the last week! absolutely brilliant series and the setup for S2... There's gonna be dragons, and zombieeez... Oh ma god Lydia!

okay, so holy shit, i just watched episode 10. dunno why i waited a week & a half, but it's the best of the series by far, by far. everyone comes into their own, esp danaerys and sansa, both delivering their strongest performances to date. first ep that's really moved me, too, esp cat w robb after news of eddard's death and jon snow with sam & co in the night. and that final shot! can't believe i have to wait a whole damn year to find out wot happens next...

You could always read the books
― Number None, Thursday, 30 June 2011 09:28 (twelve years ago) link
i really really wanted Sansa to grab Joffrey by the neck and throw themselves off that walkway...

Where are people getting the eps online? I never saw 10 and quickly tooled through the HBO website but it wanted me to join something for the content...gave up quickly.

Like several others, have started on the books in the wake of the series. When Catelyn and Ser Jorik are in the tavern where they encounter and capture Tyrion, the minstrel is called … Marillion. Lols, rofls, lmao etc etc
― Trudi Styler, the Creator (ithappens), Thursday, 30 June 2011 16:45 (twelve years ago) link
Yeah, Marillion is the one who gets his tongue cut out... by Wilko Johnson of Dr Feelgood (who plays the mute executioner).
I finished the last episode of this this morning, great stuff. Along with everything else, I love the opening titles and music. You don't hear so many great theme tunes these days, but this is one.

Who would be a good Stannis? I Googled "cast as Stannis" to see if anybody had been cast as Stannis and the second result was "HBO Cast Alan Rickman as Stannis", but then I noticed there was a comma after "HBO" and it was just a Facebook group making unreasonable demands
He's like ~30 years too old for the role, right? I guess everyone in this is older than the book says they are but even so
Seems like he should be played by a "name" actor cos he's important but not too omnipresent on screen, but then I also quite like the idea of him being someone maddeningly familiar who you belatedly realise was an awkward parliamentary advisor in two episodes of The Thick of It

Is there a dude who looks kind of like Colin Firth that isn't Colin Firth?
― DJP, Thursday, 30 June 2011 20:13 (twelve years ago) link
Oooh! Ciaran Hinds? Is that his name? Caesar from Rome?
― Janet Snakehole (VegemiteGrrl), Thursday, 30 June 2011 20:59 (twelve years ago) link
I've heard Mark Strong and Christopher Eccleston's names being bandied about by a lot of people. On board with either.
― Number None, Thursday, 30 June 2011 21:14 (twelve years ago) link
Eccles would be a strong choice, yeah

show's more addictive than crack. To think only a week ago I was only peripherally aware of it and today there's a Game Of Thrones hole in my world that True Blood won't fill.

hmmmm, rufus sewell best suggestion so far imo. doesn't look too old, can pull off a bit of po-faced gravitas.

haha the only reason i read the books is because when they were promoting the show i was like 'hmm im probably gonna watch this, i guess i'll read it just so nobody can spoiler me on it'

btw, kinda lol that "butt" is part of the vernacular in the books ("Nearly a man grown, he yet slipped and fell on his butt").
― Matt Groening's Cousin (Leee), Tuesday, 5 July 2011 05:35 (twelve years ago) link
He compensates by describing things as a "mummer's farce" on the regular; guy must be a total downer at ren fairs
"he walked like he had a dagger up his butt" was the point where I considered just skipping to book 2 to find out about deaths

Massive Westeros Map
― Gukbe, Friday, 8 July 2011 00:07 (twelve years ago) link
I'll come back to this map once I've made it deeper into the books. 2/3 into GoT is the most fun I've had w/ a book in ages. Then again, I haven't read anything like this in a long time.
