Gwendoline Christie is a British actress. She graduated from drama school in 2005 and has appeared in the RSC's Great Expectations and Pravda. Last year she played the queen in Cymbeline at the Barbican. She lives in London

Her only screen role to date seems to be a very small part in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus. She's 6ft 3

she's the amazon from the patrick wolf videos

remy bean, Friday, 8 July 2011 13:29 (twelve years ago) link

Whoa:

I had seen Gwendoline walking in Brighton and was drawn to her. She's over 6'5" in heels and very striking. I couldn't get her out of my head. She was working at a funky interiors boutique in Brighton called Pussy; I was looking for a new project in 2002 and realised I needed to track down this girl to see if she'd do some photos.

Tall order: it took Borland (right) six months to convince Christie to pose seminude

I am...torn. Have to see how they style her character. Wanted someone less feminine, definitely.

watch the damaris video –– she's definitely capable of less feminine

remy bean, Friday, 8 July 2011 14:44 (twelve years ago) link

damaris video?

she's definitely prettier than i imagined, and thinner too. i pictured brienne being built like a female shot putter:

it's a tough role to cast though.

yikes only 4 days left for me to finish my re-read and i'm not even done with 3 yet, might have to just skim 4 if its as inconsequential as i remember

ciderpress, Friday, 8 July 2011 15:18 (twelve years ago) link

tamtam otm, but I imagine she'll be bulked out with armor and stuff: her gonzo height (six five!) is more visually striking than being jacked would be.

6'5" in heels, 6'3" in real life apparently

thomp, Friday, 8 July 2011 15:33 (twelve years ago) link

i dunno. i feel like hbo were never going to go with anyone actually unattractive, so it's at least better that they're at least putting onscreen someone with a non-standard body type and stuff

thomp, Friday, 8 July 2011 15:36 (twelve years ago) link

She's "TV ugly" basically

Number None, Friday, 8 July 2011 15:38 (twelve years ago) link

ha ha. which is "hot" by human standards.

So Martin has taken twenty years to write the first five books. Is there any indication he will finish the last two before the show catches up with him, or indeed before he dies?

Apparently he's given the showrunners his notes and outlines for how the book series will end, in case something happens to him or he doesn't finish in time. Not that it matters, as I'd be shocked if the series ran for seven years.

As a fan of the "fitness chicks" thread, I would also like to express my fondness for this particular wish.

Just finished first book! Favorite POVs are Arya and Jon. Can't wait to get into new plot stuff (might have to wait because the first non-prologue chapter looks to be Arya falling in with Wall-bound scum).

I have been sworn to secrecy about G's casting - she is a friend - for the past three weeks and have been DYING to say something. Usually she looks like this:

http://www.ponystep.com/imagestore/large_2940.jpg

She is very popular with fashion and art people in East London and I think she's gorgeous. FYI the sort of heels G wears means she's more like 6'7"+ in them! Although many of you have not seen her in much, she's been in tons of performance art for people like Matthew Stone and Theo Adams and was in the revive of Breakfast at Tiffany's with Anna Friel.

she seems taller than wolf in that video and he's pretty crazy tall O_o

so finally caught up with all of this, it was totally great but i'll probably need to watch them all again pretty soon because i still don't know who everyone is. also i feel bad for the kid playing joffrey if he's got such punchable face in real life.

Matt Groening's Cousin (Leee), Tuesday, 12 July 2011 04:06 (twelve years ago) link

Why do the younger Stark kids not have Northern accents? Not a major issue, but a lapse of attention to detail perhaps...

Inevitable stupid samba mix (chap), Tuesday, 12 July 2011 08:16 (twelve years ago) link

I have thought about this. I reckon it can sort of be explained away by the fact that they spent more time with their mother who is from the south. Certainly with the girls they would be around her a lot learning to be ladies and so on, while the older lads hang out with gruff soldiering types.

Number None, Tuesday, 12 July 2011 08:57 (twelve years ago) link

But overwhelmingly everyone in the world has the accent from the place yjeu grew up in, parents' accents irregardless. This is true. It's an error.

Inevitable stupid samba mix (chap), Tuesday, 12 July 2011 09:16 (twelve years ago) link

I don't think it's a great explanation but the girls could have had elocution lessons or similar. Anyway, Jamie Lannister has a European accent and his brother Tyrion has some weird pseudo-English one so it's not like it's the only inconsistency.

Number None, Tuesday, 12 July 2011 09:43 (twelve years ago) link

I'd always rather hear a number of inconsistent accents within a show or film than have otherwise perfecly good actors compromise their performances because they're trying to mimic an accent they'll never manage.

trishyb, Tuesday, 12 July 2011 10:05 (twelve years ago) link

Tyrion reminds me of Eddie Izzard.
