I assume you mean b/c most of these tunes ride that faster, bouncier groove? I suspect it caught on more because it's actually easier (though more energetic) to dance to than a "typical" Tim tune of the era because the measures more quickly, plus like soothing harpsichord or guitar hooks.

Still, Timbaland as shorthand for syncopated beats in millennial R&B is a forgivable sin IMO.
