I cannot second this enough. When Lionel Ritchie held a sax, and the band was all over the moogs and bass, shit was the phonk!

A very easy primer on funk is to find those "Paul's Boutique's Crates" that people have made on slsk...which is ironic, because if you look closely at the cover of Paul's Boutique, you'll see that the store was actiually selling a Young Marble Ginats album. Well, that and Grover Washington Jr.'s Mr. Magic.
