Other than the midget's jokes ("I'll rip your fake mustache off!" "HA HA I always bring a spare!") my wife and I haven't found much to laugh in Season 2. Don Johnson appearance doesn't leave me particularly hopeful for that changing.

s2 petered out a little at the end as it got a little too heartwarming/nice but i still really enjoyed it.

Yeah, i think the Don Johnson appearance was the nadir. As soon as they mentioned Kenny's father i knew there would be a wacky cameo of some sort

But yes, the freeze frame title sequences are the best

Pretty sit-com-y, but a promising set-up for the season nonetheless.

Loved the exchange:
April: "Who do you think he looks more like? You or me?"
Kenny: "He looks like the fuckin' guy from The Shield. Chiklits."

I haven't been to Myrtle Beach in several years, but that's 100% how I remember it.

Also, this show has the best music of any TV show ever. JJ Cale, Lee Hazlewood, The Strangeloves, ESG - all in one episode!!!!

Just got on this lately, funny stuff. So many great characters. I like how it has short seasons, it means there are no filler episodes, and each season is forced to have a tight story arc. Amazing production values for a sitcom.

Yeah, last night's soundtrack was pretty awesome.

I lolled hard at the "base tan" scene.

The second episode of the season was the most surreal stuff that's ever been on the show. I wonder if Will Ferrell's presence steers those guys in that direction? The eps that he's in tend to be the ones where everything gets slightly more cartoonish.

Walter Galt, Friday, 2 March 2012 15:20 (twelve years ago) link

kinda think I'm not missing much cuz you guys hardly mention baseball itt

JJ Cale, Lee Hazlewood, The Strangeloves, ESG - all in one episode!!!!

so, stuff baseball players never listen to?

Literal Facepalms (Dr Morbius), Friday, 2 March 2012 15:24 (twelve years ago) link

I thought the second episode got demonstrably less funny every time Will Ferrell came on-screen. I like him, typically, but I thought he sucked the fun out of that episode, until the final scene anyway.

I just finally watched the second season, and really enjoyed the Don Johnson episodes. Watching them bullshit each other was a prize.

Huh? (1) If you think this show is about baseball, you're not really getting it. (2) See, there's this notion of diegetic vs. non-diegetic sound in film...

Walter Galt, Friday, 2 March 2012 15:48 (twelve years ago) link

(1) I've only heard and read about the thing, that's why I'm not getting it. On purpose.

(2) Yeah, thx a bunch.

i just watched Apocalypto for the first time last nite and so the scene in will ferrel's back yard is way funnier now.

Seriously, then, what IS your point about the music?

She Got the Shakes, Saturday, 3 March 2012 01:33 (twelve years ago) link

Liquid Liquid was in this last one iirc?

⚓ (gr8080), Saturday, 3 March 2012 01:50 (twelve years ago) link

i believe his point was "I don't like anything about the idea of this so I am going to find absurd reasons to knock it down to all the fans."

stay in school if you want to kiw (Gukbe), Saturday, 3 March 2012 01:52 (twelve years ago) link

it would be such an honest depiction of the baseball world were it not for the musical choices

⚓ (gr8080), Saturday, 3 March 2012 02:21 (twelve years ago) link

He wants it to only have music baseball players actually listen to, ie late-period Metallica and Daddy Yankee

congratulations (n/a), Saturday, 3 March 2012 04:22 (twelve years ago) link

"Lunatic Fringe" in the last one was nice - but I guess baseball players wouldn't listen to that?

boxall, Saturday, 3 March 2012 04:24 (twelve years ago) link

Baseball players wouldn't allow a camera crew to stand in the middle of the field, between the mound and home plate, when they are trying to play a game. Show is bullshit imo.
