what books are they doing this year?

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 22 August 2002 15:35 (twenty-one years ago) link

geez don't any of you want to sleep with each other?

I want to sleep with everyone on ILE, preferably all at once, but I think this is not reciprocated.

I shall be finalising my divorce, finalising my house sale, finalising buying a new flat, and checking it out so I can work out how the hell I'm fitting thousands of albums and books into this smaller place. And trying not to be too depressed: exactly one year ago I was lying in hospital recuperating after a close-thing suicide attempt, and my wife had told me she was leaving (we'd been together 23 years). Hard to forget that stuff when I'm so involved in its aftermath. And I'm suffering from very bad clinical depression too.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 22 August 2002 17:30 (twenty-one years ago) link

Sorry, I didn't mean to imply another round of "who on ILX do you want to sleep with." (Especially as I would probably once again be the only one to admit it, and my list has greatly expanded since that point.)

nabisco (nabisco), Thursday, 22 August 2002 20:21 (twenty-one years ago) link

martin- knew about the divorce but not the clinical depression. Hope have a nice weekend martin.

as for me I will be in that empty building called the UCL chemistry department at the computer trying to tidy up my report. so work (but once that's over then I'll be at home for two weeks on a holiday, just listening to recs and on being on ILX and reading too).

Julio Desouza (jdesouza), Thursday, 22 August 2002 20:34 (twenty-one years ago) link

Thanks Julio: and I mention again that I work for UCL too, and we should meet up.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 22 August 2002 21:06 (twenty-one years ago) link

yes, I'm at UCL right now so if you want to quickly meet this afternoon email me and it can be done.

it is reassuring that none of you feel drawn to the BLOODY notting hill carnival like wot I am being dragged along to

bob zemko, Friday, 23 August 2002 10:43 (twenty-one years ago) link

I am djing at a little festival in a medium to large field in Devon. I will have been drinking all day by the time that I am on, which means that i will probably scratch the grooves out of my rekkids due to booze-hands and will most probably play Temptation by Heaven 17. tra la la

i don't usually acknowledge bank holidays, seeing as I live in the US.. but this weekend I will actually be in the uk, so I think on monday I will most likely be recovering from jetlag and happiness, bliss, etc. etc.!

mandee, Friday, 23 August 2002 16:57 (twenty-one years ago) link

who is on the list nabisco?

david h (david h), Friday, 23 August 2002 17:05 (twenty-one years ago) link

I'm back after a week away and ready to PARTY. Or I would be if I didnt have so much work to do.

Tom (Groke), Saturday, 24 August 2002 07:35 (twenty-one years ago) link

On the actual Bank Holiday Monday, I am going to Nottingham to play a GIG. This is the first proper gig since our tour, so it's a bit scary. Also scary is the fact that we could not hire a CAR cause it is Bank Holiday Weekend, so we all have to take the bloody TRAIN which is bloody EXPENSIVE. It kinda takes the joy out of playing a gig when you know in advance that you are going to lose money on it.

Bank holidays or no doesn't really make much of a difference when you are unemployed.

urgh I had the worst drug taking experience of my life on Thursday/Friday and then I was in work yesterday. I think I will give up rave for at least 10 days.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 24 August 2002 09:09 (twenty-one years ago) link

I am also superstar djing this weekend, blimey what a bunch we are. jel i was at reading yesterday and jarvis did the reading (books) joke, just as he did two years ago. apart from that it was pretty bobbins, and was knackered so didn't even stick around for soulwax djing. but pulp were soooooooper, as always. i am also seeing DWWWWWWAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGGEEEEEEENNNNNNNSSSSSS this afternoon, mmm dwagens...

CarsmileSteve, Saturday, 24 August 2002 09:25 (twenty-one years ago) link

Oh I was djing too this morning, in my kitchen, it was wicked the salt and milk were mad for my set.

Ronan (Ronan), Saturday, 24 August 2002 09:34 (twenty-one years ago) link

so far i have made a pitiful show at doing anything of lasting value: up 11.45, talk to mum (ok that was normal and fine except i kept yawning), huge cup of disgustingly strong coffee, waste life on ilx

mark s (mark s), Saturday, 24 August 2002 09:44 (twenty-one years ago) link

I haven't managed to do much yet. Channel hopping between cricket, wrestling and CD:UK. Blazin' Squad are evil as are Busted. Why can't it be like the '80's when only good songs got to number one? Coz VH1 has been showing number ones of the eighties on a loop and most are pretty classic til you get to around April 1988, with the advent of Bros.

I'm going to the post-office to pay my phone bill now. It's a nice sunny day.

jel -- (jel), Saturday, 24 August 2002 10:27 (twenty-one years ago) link

My plans are now 'firming up' (heh heh). I am skipping the dragons but am apparently going to the pub afterwards. Mmmm pub. Other than that working, fuck it.

Tom (Groke), Saturday, 24 August 2002 11:19 (twenty-one years ago) link

friday was crappy, but set loads of soulseek d/ls off, met someone on the leeds-shipley train who i knew from school, which was a depressing experience. sat, went over to manchester to scope out chorlton, then went to the north bar in leeds with arlene, katie and claire which was ok, just go back in now. tomorrow train back to london, jeff mills at lost vs juan atkins & farben at rhythm factory is still up in the air. this had better not be a wash out!!

gareth (gareth), Saturday, 24 August 2002 21:02 (twenty-one years ago) link

While you've been doing all that, I've been slaving over hot mp3s. Or something. (Then again the big holiday weekend is next weekend here in the States, but I'll be otherwise busy anyway...)

Next weekend is Bumbershoot here!
the Northwest's own artrageous four day party where Carnivale meets Concert Hall. The last true celebration of summer, Bumbershoot remains the greatest showcase of eclectic and excellent art, a place where 2,500 artists stalk the stages, grace the galleries and generally choreograph one of the most fun, wacky parties on the planet.

thirteen years pass...

These can be tough...Especially if you've been working flat out, and lift your head above the work cubicle on Saturday morning - only to find your actual life undeniably somewhat threadbare.

I knew the risks when i didn't plan anything, of course. The weather needs to give me something to work with here - I don't want to be reviving the miserable pissy rain thread over the weekend.

Fuelling my weather obsession, the Guardian is today provocatively claiming that "Figures so far suggest this April will not have been as cold as the Aprils in 2012 or 2013" .

It's a really lovely day and I'm on a coach headed for London, which is worrying as this is usually the journey from a sunny day to a grey one

Supporting a coast-to-coast charity cycle which means getting to drink a lot of coffee and driving very slowly around nice countryside with herself. Every now and again a posh cyclist type will want something from me.
