Oooh that reminds me of questions I have.

one month passes...

i realized our household has HBO on demand about a week ago, and watched all of Season 1 since then. i've never read the books (and don't really plan to) so i can't speak to how closely the series adheres to the text, but this show is awesome, obv. watching it is so enjoyable that the relatively minor flaws really stand out. i didn't really feel like going back and reading through 2000 posts, so i'm sure a lot of this has already been discussed:

- boobs! vagina! buttz! penis! thwapping! every episode! i feel like rick santorum or something, but the nudity is a little gratuitous. do the books place such a strong emphasis on sex? i understand there are plot elements that demand sex, but there were several scenes where it was just totally unnecessary and distracting. like the one where the advisor at King's Landing who is extremely cunning and witty and is not a eunuch is delivering a long monologue on the nature of power or something, and meanwhile in the background there are two women working on having sex with a man, trading positions, getting off, moaning, and occasionally he interrupts his monologue to throw them a sex tip or two. what

- Daenerys is really hot, and she really can't act at all. oh well. boobs!

- other actors who can't act but are somewhat exempted from ridicule because they're children: Arya (stop making that goddamn face where your mouth is half open in disbelief and pain! FUCKING STOP IT!) and Sansa (the one who has a boner for Joffrey during the first half of the season.

- a child that can act: Joffrey. he was convincing as a total asshole long before his character took the throne.

- Tyrion is awesome. he stands outs in every single scene he's in.

your pain is probably equal (Z S), Monday, 2 January 2012 01:47 (twelve years ago) link

many friends have posted the vid of Tyrion slapping Joffrey as their favorite TV moment of 2011

Kiarostami bag (milo z), Monday, 2 January 2012 02:08 (twelve years ago) link

there's a fair amount of of sex in the books. the ridiculous scene with Littlefinger that you mentioned is completely fabricated for the show though, presumably to meet HBO's boob quota

ciderpress, Monday, 2 January 2012 03:52 (twelve years ago) link

I've just finished book two. It's probably the most violent thing I've ever read, of course I am completely hooked.

Inevitable stupid samba mix (chap), Monday, 2 January 2012 14:56 (twelve years ago) link

two weeks pass...

i've just started book 2. i'm not annoyed by the stylistic tics he mentions (yet?). i actually love daenerys and am disappointed to hear she wasn't well cast in the series. :(

i mean tbf page 120 in an asoiaf book is like page 25 in most books

gyac, Monday, 30 January 2012 17:54 (twelve years ago) link

yeah in the books he's meant to be like eight foot tall

Number None, Monday, 30 January 2012 18:18 (twelve years ago) link

i kind of don't remember but was renly & loras' relationship so, uh, graphic in the books?

hhhhhh Bill I juste like ertronic thinges (NZA), Monday, 30 January 2012 18:28 (twelve years ago) link

r mccann i think is lucky, besides the imp i think he's probably the most interesting/dynamic of the adult characters

hhhhhh Bill I juste like ertronic thinges (NZA), Monday, 30 January 2012 18:29 (twelve years ago) link

Well, Andre the Giant is dead, so. xxp

Nicole, Monday, 30 January 2012 18:29 (twelve years ago) link

The Renly - Loras relationship is only very vaguely hinted at in the books. They don't even feature in them very much

Number None, Monday, 30 January 2012 18:33 (twelve years ago) link

yeah i knew gregor was a giant, but for some reason he didn't look that tall onscreen? idk.

ia, sandor clegane's a great character. i really like him in the series too.

gyac, Monday, 30 January 2012 19:03 (twelve years ago) link

He is one of my favorite characters in the books (and also so far in the series as well).

I love Maisie Williams so much.

omar leeettle (Leee), Sunday, 5 February 2012 22:24 (twelve years ago) link

I guess I need to add that it's an admiring, very very platonic sort of love.

omar leeettle (Leee), Sunday, 5 February 2012 22:25 (twelve years ago) link

good save.

New trailer!

Not enough Brienne, though.

That looks great.

I really like Varys in the tv series.

Feel like I'm gonna hate Joffrey even more this season

haha yes you will

I spend a lot of time thinking about apricots (DJP), Thursday, 9 February 2012 21:51 (twelve years ago) link

The actor who plays him has ruined Batman Begins for me, because I end up thinking Batman is an asshole for saving a child who is clearly pure evil.

Nicole, Thursday, 9 February 2012 21:53 (twelve years ago) link

Hating Joffrey is like an absolute condition already...like pregnancy, or death.

one little aioli (Laurel), Thursday, 9 February 2012 21:55 (twelve years ago) link

A bunch of still from the new season

encarta it (Gukbe), Thursday, 9 February 2012 21:56 (twelve years ago) link

I think Ramsay Bolton is the only character more hateable than Joffrey, but he's not in it yet.

Nicole, Thursday, 9 February 2012 21:59 (twelve years ago) link

i have no doubt Michael McElhatton is going to kill at as Roose Bolton

Number None, Thursday, 9 February 2012 22:03 (twelve years ago) link

The red woman and Stannis look great.
One of my friends alerted me to a tvtropes page of wild guesses for the series, worth a look for lols. Plenty of spoilers obviously.

Reading Storm of Swords, Dany's arc is so fuckin bad-ass in this one so far.

Inevitable stupid samba mix (chap), Thursday, 9 February 2012 23:31 (twelve years ago) link

I've been powering through the books over the last several months and am just about to wrap up Dance with Dragons, but I haven't seen the tv show yet. I asked for the blu-ray set for a birthday present, but my wife thinks I'm crazy for wanting to own it.

What do you think? Is it worth it? Does it have re-watchability?

Moodles, Friday, 10 February 2012 00:00 (twelve years ago) link

I've watched the series 3 times through all the way through. The second time through clarified a lot of things (I totally missed that those were dragon skulls) and the third time was fun. Good rewatchability imo.

i think as far as the books v the tv show goes, i've discovered that having to see sansa's face while she goes through all this shit makes me not think she deserves it all quite so much

more like slayla (NZA), Friday, 10 February 2012 01:09 (twelve years ago) link

You think she deserves it?

Nicole, Friday, 10 February 2012 01:11 (twelve years ago) link

Sansa's really sympathetic on the page once you get past Ned's death.
