He's so great.

Declan from Üter lives on a diet of cheese & onion crisps. My colleague told me, but you can see it in his sunken eyes.

She has a machine, yes.

Ally C (Ally C), Tuesday, 24 May 2005 12:59 (eighteen years ago) link

Stace, did you edit out my greengrocer's apostrophe?

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 27 May 2005 08:39 (eighteen years ago) link

I've been trumped - my temp is having an article published in Le Monde.

Madchen (Madchen), Friday, 27 May 2005 15:52 (eighteen years ago) link

RJG/Cathy - are you watching BB tonight?

Alba (Alba), Friday, 27 May 2005 15:58 (eighteen years ago) link

i was in paris being cultured and sweaty (unrelated). was there a greengrocer error? uh oh... the place falls apart without me, i swear... and bb! what have i missed?

dahlin (dahlin), Sunday, 29 May 2005 13:05 (eighteen years ago) link

I wish I were, alba, but I am in the cauldron.

cathy probably wishes she were, too, but she may have gone to wales and I don't think they have TVs, there.

RJG (RJG), Sunday, 29 May 2005 14:13 (eighteen years ago) link

Check the datestamp buddy.

no

RJG (RJG), Sunday, 29 May 2005 14:16 (eighteen years ago) link

It doesn't properly capture the amount of mud there was around at the time.

KeefW (kmw), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 20:58 (eighteen years ago) link

I was just going to say. But aw! anyway.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 20:58 (eighteen years ago) link

Although, I don't know when these photos were taken, they could be post-mud, pre-cleanup!

KeefW (kmw), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 21:03 (eighteen years ago) link

That golden age.

Alba (Alba), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 21:09 (eighteen years ago) link

Indeed... That would around about the "Glasgow's miles better" plastered comically on the gas works age.

KeefW (kmw), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 21:10 (eighteen years ago) link

the age of golden and green buses.

or 1982

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 21:11 (eighteen years ago) link

Hehe, yeah it would be 1982 that. I remember first seeing the Glasgow's Miles Better thing just coming over the motorway and being annoyed with my mother for turning the radio off as "Come on Eileen" was on. I tried to reason with her - you can't turn it off, it's number 1!

Beats me how she didn't fall for my logic to this day.

Now I'm older and I can play "Come on Eileen" any time I like.

KeefW (kmw), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 21:20 (eighteen years ago) link

Although in an amusing memory fuck up, this web page claims the "Glasgow's Miles Better" campaign started in 1983. The wonders of the human brain. Must be two separate incidents.

glasgow's meat's miles better!

RJG (RJG), Tuesday, 31 May 2005 21:53 (eighteen years ago) link

Can you still get mugs with that on? I want one.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 06:47 (eighteen years ago) link

Glasgow's meat's gone. I don't know who got Mr Happy. He might even be lying there still, under the rubble.

Madchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 07:05 (eighteen years ago) link

I am sad that I missed so much BB. But yesterday I met (and flirted with, momentarily) Piers Morgan! Wahey, wahoo.

Cathy (Cathy), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 09:44 (eighteen years ago) link

You will end up in his next diary.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 10:21 (eighteen years ago) link

Prize Moron's Bizzerk!

KeefW (kmw), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 10:23 (eighteen years ago) link

how the hell did you manage that cathy? PIERS MORGAN! wow. a modern sleaze icon. i heard loads of er... nice... things about him during my brief stint on the mirror sports desk. was he HOTT? did he tempt you with come hither glances?

dahlin (dahlin), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 11:09 (eighteen years ago) link

I used to enjoy his Christmas cards he got whilst on Bizarre at the Sun. Each year he used to get signed Christmas cards from his 'pop pals', who included the likes of Jason Donovan, Phil Collins and the boys from Bros!

KeefW (kmw), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 11:15 (eighteen years ago) link

I loved that sign! We always knew we were getting close to town whenever we went into town shopping, or going to the cinema, or the museums.

I met him at the Hay-on-Wye festival, where he was talking and signing things. You have trumped that x1000 for working at the Mirror sports desk...please tell me Piers gossip!!

What happened between me and Mr. Morgan is a private matter, of course, but I can confirm that yes he was HOTT and maybe there were come-hither glances.

Cathy (Cathy), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 14:47 (eighteen years ago) link

Dahlin, good work on the headlining of teh letters page today!

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 16:16 (eighteen years ago) link

I have been off sick and missed the Metro yesterday and today. Has WW3 erupted over Italian grammar, or was I ignored? And what was today's headline?

Madchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 16:51 (eighteen years ago) link

It involved the phrase "get me away from here I'm dying" so I'm guessing our Dahlin was involved in it.

Have you been writing in, Madchen? I have been driving to work and haven't seen the metro for weeks, but I was seconded to Glasgow today and got the train.

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 17:03 (eighteen years ago) link

I was in print on Friday but it seems I may have done it without Dahlin's help. I hope so - it would feel like an even greater achievement (no offence).

Cathy, your Piers Luv baffles me a bit.

Madchen (Madchen), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 17:13 (eighteen years ago) link

Madchen, me too! It has been on-off for about four years now, but in the last few weeks it has really peaked. I think it is the hot weather. I think I will shut up about him now though.

Cathy (Cathy), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 17:33 (eighteen years ago) link

Does Glasgow (or any subset thereof) want to go and see Roddy Frame + Trash Can Sinatras with me on 10th June? I am hoping it will not sell out before I get paid next week.

OK. It didn't sell out and I just bought a ticket. Does anyone want to come with me then, or do I stand about like a jangly-pop-loving loser on my own (alternative, anyone Fancy A Pint?)

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 17:48 (eighteen years ago) link

Like I said.

Denver had Glasgow style rain, for a couple of days, I'm sure you'll all be glad to know.

Cathy, this Piers thing will have to be explained.

Ally C (Ally C), Wednesday, 1 June 2005 23:29 (eighteen years ago) link

Ally C (Ally C), Thursday, 2 June 2005 00:33 (eighteen years ago) link

glad you liked the headline ailsa, esp as it made no sense really. any other lyrics i should try to work in? i already snuck in a camera obscura title, tho i doubt anyone noticed.
yea lucy, your letter(s?) got in wholly on their own merit! woo hoo! cathy: all the goss involved various liasons with female staff who were later mysteriously moved around the company (and UK) with strange made-up job titles when things went sour.
ally: you'll have to try providence more soon! do let us know how she treats you.

dahlin (dahlin), Thursday, 2 June 2005 10:45 (eighteen years ago) link

STUDENTS: Want a job? Be my conference minion for £250 for 5 days work from 31st July to 4th August (you'll probably get the afternoon of the 3rd off and a free dinner/bash at the Arches as well). Dahlin did this job two years ago and survived without too much mental scarring, I think. Email isec dot 2005 at strath dot ac dot uk if you're interested.

Stacey, the second letter wasn't from me - I noticed the name, but it's pure coincidence. That's why I was surprised you had nothing to do with it!

Madchen (Madchen), Thursday, 2 June 2005 11:15 (eighteen years ago) link

"Cock Fun"

I mean the titles to be used thing, not being Madchen's minion.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Thursday, 2 June 2005 11:18 (eighteen years ago) link

Madchen - what does yr minion need to do? i may know someone who could do a good job of it.

jed_ (jed), Thursday, 2 June 2005 12:38 (eighteen years ago) link

Can I be your minion please? That's the first week of my fortnight's holiday, I was planning going to Benicassim but that's not looking likely now. So I could earn an extra £250 quid then go on holiday the second week with some spendy money. Huzzah!

ailsa (ailsa), Thursday, 2 June 2005 15:39 (eighteen years ago) link

What was Lucy's letter about?

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Friday, 3 June 2005 10:05 (eighteen years ago) link

They are going to build a skyscraper in Glasgow. It is not for the oldies, apparently.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller), Friday, 3 June 2005 10:06 (eighteen years ago) link

today i went for a star wars thing with 'Beasties bite back: Return of the midges'
took 20 minutes to come up with that. i suck
