/nelsonlaff.
I might step outside awhile. You know, I've whinged a lot about this house we rent but tbh I do love it, cramped kitchen aside. The only pissy thing is the rent raise. I should call them and ask not to raise it if we sign on another 12 months. I really cbf moving house.

The ''southside'' is not just any old place south of the Yarra. It includes suburbs between the city and the bay, such as South Melbourne, Prahran, Windsor, South Yarra, Toorak, St Kilda and Port Melbourne. It stands for bay breezes, beautiful blondes, fitness, beer gardens, footballers, four-wheel-drives, hyphenated surnames, optimism and the free market. The ''northside'' comprises North Melbourne, Carlton, Fitzroy, Collingwood, Abbotsford, Thornbury, Brunswick and Coburg. Bell Street is the boundary for northsiders. It stands for artists, warehouse parties, bicycles, underground music, lightless terrace houses, postmodernity and ''awareness''. It likes to think of itself as Berlin.

TBH the only time I ever heard this "lol north/south" thing come up, was whe I befriended some ppl who lived in inner north areas. Id lived here for years and not really heard it before that. It seems such a fitzy fixation.
that said that article is pure troll, as was the "lol tatts make you dumb" and "flag flyers are racist" articles. It stinks of such desperation. Between this and Reinhart basically buynig the paper, I'm gonna stop reading it. Fuck if I know what to replace it with tho, abcnews I guess.

The death of newspapers is massively overstated. They'll be kept afloat by people who HAVE to complain about how awful they are for a good 20 years yet.

backpackers do tend to make everything awful so she may have a point

St k proper sux because of tourists, that I dont deny. But it doesnt mean Windsor, or Balaclava, or South Melbourne or Elwood are crap! (theyre lovely). I dont "get" the vibe in fitz/clif hill etc at all tbh :/ dunno why.

The north-south difference is quite striking imo – the mood is tangibly different. Also otm about St K, especially during the festival when it's just blue-grid bogans. Really hate going to Acland St now.

I mean we're still in St K E (obv) and love it to bits, no desire to move out of the area at all. People keep telling me that Yarraville is better and cheaper (it is) but I'm happy to pay extra rent to live where I want to live ffs.

Everyone I know says the same about Richmond, and tbh, I'd not mind moving to Richmond - but the quality of rentals in the area compared to where we are is suprisingly shithouse. Nothing is newishly renovated, all the houses are dumpy as fuck, that ive been able to find.

Fuxake. Make a passing comment on FB about not finding as many nice places to rent at the mo as I have in the past couple months.
Annoying friend starts spamming my post with rentals in Footscray "look at how cheap these are, so much cheaper than where you are". Fuck off woman, if I wanted to live in the west idve moved a long time ago. I said I dont want to leave the area and she's still at it.
&^%#$

And yet she bitches all the time about the crappy non existent PT (mostly only busses) and dodgyness of footscy station and wonders why its cheaper?

yeah i mean i have no great desire to leave my area but i don't hate on the cray, there's lots of really nice parts of it and it's probably the best value housing in town at the mo
― regal xenophobe (electricsound), Monday, 6 February 2012 04:28 (twelve years ago) link

it's not really a surprise though imo, i mean for people who need cheaper rent but to be close to town it's entering no-brainer territories
― regal xenophobe (electricsound), Monday, 6 February 2012 04:30 (twelve years ago) link
TBH Ive only ever passed thru on the train - I'm not judging the place. I'm annoyed that saying "we have chosen to stay in this area" means getting flooded with "but lol CHEAPER HOUSES" posts and one other dick telling me i need to "lower my standards" (he is a LANDLORD - he can eff right off)
― thanks to denial, I'm immortal! (Trayce), Monday, 6 February 2012 04:30 (twelve years ago) link
Also its worth stressing, while I work CBD, Nick actuallyt works right up our end of st kilda rd, so moving west would be insanely pointless.
― thanks to denial, I'm immortal! (Trayce), Monday, 6 February 2012 04:31 (twelve years ago) link
"lower my standards"
for a lot of rental places i've seen, lower standards = a carport or lean-to
