The death of newspapers is massively overstated. They'll be kept afloat by people who HAVE to complain about how awful they are for a good 20 years yet.

It seems such a fitzy fixation.

daet said st. k suxx due to backpackers ruining it and she only stays due to job being there, would prefer thee north

backpackers do tend to make everything awful so she may have a point

the Landshark Forum (haitch), Sunday, 5 February 2012 03:50 (twelve years ago) link

St k proper sux because of tourists, that I dont deny. But it doesnt mean Windsor, or Balaclava, or South Melbourne or Elwood are crap! (theyre lovely). I dont "get" the vibe in fitz/clif hill etc at all tbh :/ dunno why.

But the fake tan Dahling set are eveyrwhere now, so the whole inner 'burbs are all ruined tbh

Id lived here for years and not really heard it before that. It seems such a fitzy fixation.

The north-south difference is quite striking imo – the mood is tangibly different. Also otm about St K, especially during the festival when it's just blue-grid bogans. Really hate going to Acland St now.

I mean we're still in St K E (obv) and love it to bits, no desire to move out of the area at all. People keep telling me that Yarraville is better and cheaper (it is) but I'm happy to pay extra rent to live where I want to live ffs.

Everyone I know says the same about Richmond, and tbh, I'd not mind moving to Richmond - but the quality of rentals in the area compared to where we are is suprisingly shithouse. Nothing is newishly renovated, all the houses are dumpy as fuck, that ive been able to find.

Plus, no parking *anywhere*

True, though not even remotely a concern of mine :P (besides, its walking distance to the city!)

regal xenophobe (electricsound), Monday, 6 February 2012 04:14 (twelve years ago) link

Fuxake. Make a passing comment on FB about not finding as many nice places to rent at the mo as I have in the past couple months.

Annoying friend starts spamming my post with rentals in Footscray "look at how cheap these are, so much cheaper than where you are". Fuck off woman, if I wanted to live in the west idve moved a long time ago. I said I dont want to leave the area and she's still at it.

&^%#$

thanks to denial, I'm immortal! (Trayce), Monday, 6 February 2012 04:17 (twelve years ago) link

And yet she bitches all the time about the crappy non existent PT (mostly only busses) and dodgyness of footscy station and wonders why its cheaper?

thanks to denial, I'm immortal! (Trayce), Monday, 6 February 2012 04:18 (twelve years ago) link

luv the scray. never seen so many pho joints in a kilometre square radius in my lyfe

the Landshark Forum (haitch), Monday, 6 February 2012 04:25 (twelve years ago) link

yeah i mean i have no great desire to leave my area but i don't hate on the cray, there's lots of really nice parts of it and it's probably the best value housing in town at the mo

regal xenophobe (electricsound), Monday, 6 February 2012 04:28 (twelve years ago) link

dead set there is a footscray/yarraville rental cult atm (I even tried that on with you trayce iirc)

Wub wub wub wubwubwubwub wub Pzzzzzzz WUBB wubwub (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 6 February 2012 04:28 (twelve years ago) link

it's not really a surprise though imo, i mean for people who need cheaper rent but to be close to town it's entering no-brainer territories

regal xenophobe (electricsound), Monday, 6 February 2012 04:30 (twelve years ago) link

TBH Ive only ever passed thru on the train - I'm not judging the place. I'm annoyed that saying "we have chosen to stay in this area" means getting flooded with "but lol CHEAPER HOUSES" posts and one other dick telling me i need to "lower my standards" (he is a LANDLORD - he can eff right off)

thanks to denial, I'm immortal! (Trayce), Monday, 6 February 2012 04:30 (twelve years ago) link

Also its worth stressing, while I work CBD, Nick actuallyt works right up our end of st kilda rd, so moving west would be insanely pointless.

thanks to denial, I'm immortal! (Trayce), Monday, 6 February 2012 04:31 (twelve years ago) link

"lower my standards"

for a lot of rental places i've seen, lower standards = a carport or lean-to

regal xenophobe (electricsound), Monday, 6 February 2012 04:31 (twelve years ago) link

ease of getting to work is key

LOL I know right. Thats one good thing abt my area, at least (in the $$range we are lookin in) things are newly rennoed. The state of some places... dear god.

thanks to denial, I'm immortal! (Trayce), Monday, 6 February 2012 04:33 (twelve years ago) link

ugh i have a crankypants headache now.

thanks to denial, I'm immortal! (Trayce), Monday, 6 February 2012 04:33 (twelve years ago) link

your headache would reduce if you moved to footscray

TBH I'd happily live somewhere like Sandringham or Aspendale but hilariously thats eveb more expensive.

thanks to denial, I'm immortal! (Trayce), Monday, 6 February 2012 05:00 (twelve years ago) link

I have to say if I moved to Melbourne, I would certainly consider Footscray. Regular trains to city, not concerned about it being a dodgy area (because duh, I live in Redfern and love it), convenient if I wanna go to see my sis, or where my parents are moving to as well.

Also because once I saw a Metro bit of signage advertising service interruptions/bustitution, and it was mistyped as "Footscary" and I liked that.

will do my best to crust this into the local vernacular

I bet I can get pretty close to what he would write:

Eastern suburbs: Latte sipping homogays with expensive haircuts
South west: Azns
North shore: Nouveau riche azns
West: Cold Chisel dude Cold Chisel
Inner west: An oasis of Portuguese chicken in a desert of hipster skinny jeans and expensive parmas.
